He wanted you to play.

"Oh, Doctor I really don't think I'm-"

A single note sounded through the empty room as he pressed his own finger down, forcing yours to do the same. Correction; he wanted you to play together. He wanted to teach you.

You fell silent as the Doctor waited a moment, smiling softly, before he continued. Slowly the notes came together until you recognized a very very roughly played Chopsticks.

You giggled. "You're a dork."

"Thank you. You're human."

"Thank you," You smiled.

You hummed along as you played note after note together before he nuzzled your cheek and another giggle escaped you. He then whispered your name, the seriousness in his voice surprising you.

"Yeah?"

"... I need to ask you something."

"O-Okay?"

He paused again.

"How are you? When I'm not looking?"

"What do you mean? I'm fine," You chuckled awkwardly.

"... I don't want to ruin you."

"What?" You asked, alarmed.

He sighed heavily. "Nothing. I'm just a rambling old man."

"Doct-"

"So you found the piano room, did you?" A voice sounded at the doorway.

You both spun around to find the lord of the house standing in the doorway.

He was a much older man, who spoke sweetly and was always smiling. He shuffled in, a soft-looking blue robe over his pajamas and a shiny wooden cane in hand.

"Ah, yes," the Doctor began. "My apologies, we helped ourselves."

The lord stopped next to the bench, leaning against the piano for support, as if he were made of cardboard, and could topple over at any second.

"Not to worry. You saved my life, and that of my daughter. You're welcome to play any instrument you should choose. My only requirement is that you play it well." Then he chuckled tiredly.

"Don't worry," you paused, smiling. "I'm not playing."

The lord laughed. "What about you, Doctor? Can you play?"

"'Course I can play! I've been around awhile, seen a few things. I know how to play a piano."

"By all means," the lord offered, extending his cupped hand as a welcoming gesture.

The Doctor dropped his gaze back to the keys, letting his eyebrows shoot up for a moment. "Well..." He somehow seemed like he didn't really want to play for this man, but perhaps he was just cranky because the lord had interrupted the two of you. But the Doctor stayed polite, and once again started up his soothing music.
