"why aren't you sleeping?" she asked back and gazed at the city lights illuminating the view. she was still stunned by it.
"can't sleep." he shrugged sloppily and mirrored her action.
"neither can i." she replied and licked her lips briefly.
"what a great thing we can keep each other company then."
some minutes later, she was wrapped by his arm and curled up in his embrace — as well as you can while being in an airplane. he stroked her upper arm with his thumb and continued throwing arguments as to why movies are better than books.
"you know, books are masterpieces. movies are usually a really bad version of the book. i mean, how often does one say that the movie is better than the book?" she mumbled and bit on her thumbnail.
"but books take so long to read. movies are set on a solid time limit and that's it." he laughed and looked down at her.
"you miss out so much if you don't read the book."
"maybe, but that's not the most important things to know."
"oh my gosh, i give up." she laughed and glanced at calum, who was sleeping peacefully.
"wait, you give up? you?" he teased and squeezed her arm.
"don't be so mean, i'm tired."
"do you want to sleep?"
"no."
luke frowned slightly, but remembered how she did the same thing in the grocery store. andie noticed his face and pressed her lips together. she really didn't want to sleep and miss out as much time with him as possible.
"are things going to get weird when we get back?" he blurted out, without further explenation. he didn't need to.
"probably." she answered truthfully and sighed. "it's always weird when they come back. it's inevitable."
"but why making it so complicated?"
"i don't know." she shrugged and looked at him. "we don't have to make it complicated."
"it will be complicated." he said and bit onto his lip ring, which she adored so incredibly much.
"especially when you sound so sure about it." she scoffed and shook her head faintly. "i know i'm strange and secretive, but the last thing i need is a boy problem. i said it'll be weird, not complicated."
"then we're not making it that." he shrugged with a smile.
"how?" she laughed and fiddled with his fingers.
"first of all, you have a date to take me on. then i'll take you on a date until i get the guts to ask you to be my girlfriend. hopefully you'll say yes and we'll be in a proper relationship, and i'll treat you like a king."
andie stared at him with a grin and collided her lips against his, but softly. it felt natural and right, as if they've been a couple for years. it still stirred something within the both of them, but as mentioned, it felt like an every day kiss between two fools in love. she cringed at the cliché feeling and pulled away.
"i'm looking forward to that." she said honestly and reacted a little when calum slowly woke up again.
luke grinned as he caressed her cheek, right beneath her cheekbones, with his thumb slowly. her skin was a bit rough and dry, and his thumb wasn't very soft either, but it felt nice for the both of them.
"hey guys, do you want to play something? i have a deck of cards." calum suggested tiredly and rubbed his eyes.
"yeah, sure." luke smiled, shifting until he sat more straight.
