"Dear God," I whispered. I closed my eyes. "If you're really up there, and you're really a miracle worker, please help. Not for me, but for Will. It's hard being Melissa's step-son, but please, if there's one person who deserves your help, it's Will. Please protect him from Melissa, I beg you. He doesn't know what he's gotten himself into."
I opened my eyes and standing in the door were Hazel, Jason, Percy, and Annabeth. Hazel was in tears.
"Nico, what has that witch done to you?!" She asked shakily.
"That little bi-" Percy started. Hazel stopped him with a stern glare. "That little biscuit."
"Guys, I'm fine," I tried to reassure them.
"Dude, no you aren't. Will told us about what happened," Jason said.
"Nico," Annabeth said. "I know all of us haven't known you but for a few hours, but you can trust us. You don't have to act tough when you need help. We're here for you-"
"I'M SAID I'M FINE!" I yelled. Annabeth stopped talking. The room was silent.
I sighed. "I'm sorry. I'm just..stressed. I'll-I'll talk to you guys later."
"If you need us, we'll be downstairs with Will," Hazel said, taking my hand.
"Ok," I said, and wiggled my hand from hers.
They left me alone after that. Wow. These kids have known me for a day, and their already super concerned about me.
I find that beautiful. I've never had that kind of love from anyone except..Bianca.
I looked over at the bowl of soup sitting next to me on the nightstand. With a shaky hand, I pick it up. Wait, I tell myself. I should probably wash my mouth out first. I started to get off the bed, but then remembered what Will told me.If you need anything, call me. I'm right downstairs, he had said.
I didn't want anyone to help me, but I reluctantly picked up my phone and found his contact. He put his name in as:
Will the Krill 😛☀️🎵
Ugh, I thought to myself. Ok, if this is going to work out, he's going to have to be a lot less perky.
I pressed the number he put in, then held the phone up to my ear. It rang a few times, then Will's voice came over the phone. I smiled a little.
"Everything okay?"
"Yeah, I just need help getting up," I told him through the phone.
"You're not supposed to be-"
"Please, Will?" I hoped that sounded desperate enough.
He sighed. "I'll be right up."
"Ok."
I pressed end call, and within a few seconds, Will was walking into the room.
"Okay," he said, clasping his hands loudly. "What is it you need me to do?"
"I was gonna eat my soup, but then I remembered that I'm coughing up blood, and I didn't want the blood to get in my soup, because then.."
Easy, Nico. He doesn't want to hear your life story.
"Sorry. I just need you to help me to the bathroom," I said.
"Okay."
Will walked over to the bed. He slid his arm across my shoulders and the other one under the bend of my knees, so when he lifted me, it looked like we had just gotten married and I was the bride. His strong arms made me feel safe, and his hair smelled like citrus.
Once in the bathroom, Will put me down. I stumbled.
"Woah-" I said, before Will caught me. My reflexes caused my hands to clutch onto Will's shoulders. My cheeks turned pink.
Will's warm hand touched the small strip of skin above the waist of my jeans, and if you were to walk in on us, it might've looked like we were dancing.....awkward. Especially since I can't dance.
Will stood me up on my own feet. "Um, do you..do you need me to stay?"
Now it was my turn to blush. "Only," Cough. "Only if you want to."
"I'll stay. Just to be safe."
I turned the faucet, leaned over the sink, and started scooping water up to my mouth. I watched as the water turned from clear to pink.
