After our phone call I stuck my phone in Harry's hoodie that laid on the picnic table.
Dinner was soon but Susie wanted a hot dog and lemonade now so Eddie and I walked her to the hot dog stand, each of us grabbing one of her hands.
By the time we brought her back to the spot, Chelsea had arrived.
Her and Paul were laughing together, sharing a soda. I found myself admiring them.
Her blonde hair matched his, they both looked so perfect together.
"Alright it's picnic time." Dave said, clapping his hands together. All of us took a seat on the picnic table, Susie climbing onto Harry's lap.
I wondered where Sam was until he came to our table with two large trays of hotdogs, sodas and condiments. I didn't realize how hungry I really was until then.
I took it upon myself to be excused from the table. I looked along the beach, I finally spotted a truck that sold macaroni and Cheese. I ordered a cup and navigated my way back to the table. There I sat down earning many strange looks.
"You don't like hot dogs?" Sam asked.
"I'm a vegetarian." I answered.
"Ewwww." Paul said, Chelsea laughed much too hard.
"That hotdog is ewww." I responded, very much enjoying my little cup of cheesed noodles.
"Susie tell Carter how good this hot dog is." Harry told her.
"Carter this hot dog is so good!" She said lifting it to my face. I could smell the steam off it.
"Eat it." Harry instructed.
"No." I resisted. But the smell lingered a taste in my mouth.
"You know you want it." Harry said teasing me with it.
"No! Meat is bad." I told him. He grimaced.
"I'll get you eventually." Harry told himself. I rolled my eyes and continued eating.
After dinner, Dave decided to take Susie home, she was getting grumpy and tired.
We all waved goodbye to him and a yawning Susie.
"Let's play football." Harry said, jumping off of the picnic table. As Paul agreed Chelsea looked scared.
"Chelsea and I will be cheerleaders." I said, saving her. I was pretty excited to play football with Harry but I didn't want her to be uncomfortable.
"No, you're playing." Harry said, ripping me up from the picnic table.
"Yeah, Carter. You go play," Chelsea said cheerfully. "I'll be the cheerleader."
"No, you're playing too." Harry told her.
"I don't know how." She said remorsfully.
"Then you'll be quarter back." I suggested. "As long as there's no QB sneaks or rushing then you'll be fine." I told her. Sam turned to me along with Harry.
"You play?"
"Yeah." I said simply. "My only friends were guys in South Dakota." I told them.
They strangely nodded.
"Who's picking teams? It'll be even, six on six." I asked.
"They'll be two captains. Me and Pauly boy." Eddie said, giving Paul the creeper stare.
"You want first pick or first ball?" Harry asked him.
"First pick." Paul said, looking around him. "Sam." He pointed to his brother. Eddie muttered a 'damn' so I assumed Sam must be good.
