He opens and closes his mouth before he sighs. He looks ahead and I see his fingers tighten around the wheel."Yes," he says softly but harshly.
I just shake my head in disbelief and sit back in my seat."So it was you who sent those warning chits and the box to my house the other day?" I ask him and his jaw hardens. He simply nods.
"Unbelievable," I saw and somehow the last few weeks, ever since senior year started start to play in my head.
And everything starts to make sense. Andrew barely being there in school, him lying to Delna about his whereabouts, the looks passed between him and Steven and that...
"So this is what you meant when you told me the other day to be careful and not get too close?" I say, accusation clear in my voice.
"Janet you need to understand that whatever I did was for your own good. Steven is...not safe to be with," he says and I snort.
"Who are you to decide that for me? He's not the bad guy and both of us know that," I yell and he sighs.
"Janet I know, but for now, it was just better to be away from him because getting attached to Steven is like walking into a house on fire, hoping for shelter," he says and turns to look at me slightly.
Something about my expression must have made him realise an important change.
"But I'm guessing you've already stormed in, haven't you?" he says and shakes his head slightly when I just stare at him blankly.
"Janet..." he trails off, sadness for me clear in his voice.
"When love walks in logic walks out, remember?" I remind him of our conversation on the first day and look ahead.
He's about to say something but he's cut off by my scream.
"Andrew turn!" I yell when I see three bikers blocking our path.
Andrew's head snaps in front and swerves with a jerk in order to save those guys. He loses control over the car in the process and goes straight into the tree.
The air bags come right out and our seat belts manage to save us. Andrew is still banged in the head though. I bang my head too and I can feel the swelling develop along with pain in my head but it's the least of my concerns.
I turn to Andrew and shake him. He groans in pain and I sigh in relief.
Atleast he's not unconscious.
I turn to those assholes on the road to give them a earful and ask them for help when I see them removing their helmets and walking towards us with rods.
Now that I look at them carefully, their big and bulky, all the three of them bald and their arms full of tattoos. They look very similar to the guys who attacked us on the beach.
Attack. Rods.
"Andrew, Andrew, I think we're in some deep shit," I shake him vigorously when the realisation dawns upon me. He stops rubbing his head and his head snaps up. His eyes widen and with lightning speed, he gets out of the car.
"Stay inside," he says before he locks me in.
Those guys approach him with a malicious smiles which send chills down my spines. I completely turn in my seat towards the window and place my palms on the glass.
They circle around him and he's glaring them down with a serious expression. They are talking and I doubt there's anything friendly about their conversation. My anxiety is rising with every passing second and I really don't know what to expect.
With all these surprises and secrets around me, I'm really not going to be surprised anymore.
Suddenly, one guy takes and swing at Andrew which he efficiently dodges. Almost like it was cue for the other, they all start to take swings at him. They are four in total and Andrew is managing to dodge each of them, landing kicks and pushing them as far as he can.
My heart starts to beat fast and I try to open the car door and get out, opposite to what Andrew told me to do. The door refuses to open and so I push at it, looking up every now and then at Andrew, who now has scratches on his knuckles.
When pushing doesn't work, I try to push all the bottoms and open close everything in my sight to open the child lock on my door.
Child lock Andrew seriously? I'm not a baby!!
Steven props up in my head and just then I realise I have my phone.
Stupid Janet.
With shaking hands I unlock my phone and put in my complicated password. I sneak a look at the boys to see one of those burly guys staring at me with wide eyes.
Busted.
My phone finally unlocks and I see him yell something to his partners. Two of then hold Andrew down while two rush towards the car.
Fuck me sideways.
My hands start shaking even more and electricity seems to passing through my body. I manage to dial 111 halfway when I see the big burly guy pull the door harshly. I stare at him with wide eyes, my breath stuck in my throat. I dial the other half when I see him swing his rod back, aiming at the window.
Gone gone gone.
I gulp and bend down to save myself from the glass. I wait for the impact but it doesn't come.
I look up to see my one and only has come to the rescue.
*************
Wanted to finish this climax off here but it's too long so changed my mind. Other half coming soon.
