The blonde grumbled as he unlocked the door, pouting a little at the fact his moment got interrupted, but soon being surprised at who was at the door. "Miss Irwin?"
That got Ashton's attention, making the curly haired boy peek around the corner of the hallway and his eyes widen once he spotted his mum. "Mum?"
"Hi honey." She greeted, seeming to be somewhat hesitant.
"Um, this is ah, a surprise? I didn't- I didn't think I'd hear from you anytime soon." Ashton mumbled, a little awkwardly as he stepped closer to his mum.
"I didn't think so either, but I remembered you telling me you were moving, so I decided I'd better do it before that."
"Oh." Ashton nodded slowly, grimacing as he remembered that conversation. Seeing as he was moving and expecting babies, he had decided it was a good time to actually tell his mum about everything that had been going on.
About a week ago he had gone to her house to talk (but of course also to see his siblings again) and it didn't end very well. His mum was angry about him leaving her out -which he understood and obviously felt bad about and apologised for- but she was also angry that he was making up such nonsense. Because for one, hybrids don't exist, according to her. And two, a boy can't be pregnant.
And so, Ashton had eventually left, his last words telling her she was always welcome to see it for herself and that he was sorry again.
He just hadn't expected to see her so soon.
"Yeah. So..."
"Oh! Come in, of course." Luke stepped aside, watching the woman walk in before closing the door behind her. "You can leave your jacket here and, yeah. I'll be in the kitchen for a moment."
Ashton gave Luke a look as the blonde took off, getting an understanding nod in return. He then turned to his mum, watching her hang her jacket away.
"So. Hybrid, huh?" She started, once she had turned back to her son and had taken him in.
"Hmh."
"And... babies."
"Hmh."
"I'm going to be a grandmother." She breathed out, a bit surprised. "And- and, he's your what? Boyfriend? Fiancé? Husband? For all I know you're already married! And I do wish to meet my son-in-law."
"Um." Ashton blushed profusely. "I haven't -- we're not -- I still need to ask him to be my boyfriend, actually. But I was planning to, real soon."
"Before the babies come, right?"
"Duh."
"Don't use that tone with me, mister."
"Sorry, mum." Ashton sighed. "Anyway, I was planning it already, but I just have no idea how to do it."
"Just ask. I'm sure he'll say yes." The woman said with a slight shrug. "After all, he's having your babies already, isn't he?"
Ashton nodded slightly, before looking at the doorway (which was just out of his mum's sight but right in his) and smiling as he saw Michael talk to Calum quietly, his hands on his sweater covered stomach and by now a beanie on his head.
