Talk of lost knowledge

"Not going to dance?" Eames asked.

"I'm not much of a dancer." Harry replied.

"Me neither." Eames said with a grin. Harry grinned back and watched Luna and Sarah dance around to the muggle music, he wondered who'd turned it on. It seemed so out of place here. Perhaps a muggle born student, they obviously were more open to muggle creations.

"Seems one of our feverish dancers has their eye on you." Eames mused noticing one of the Slytherin students was staring at Harry.

"Do I know him..." Harry murmured to himself, squinting slightly. "I do. That's Theodor."

"Friend of yours."

"Not really, Theodor Nott is notorious around here because his father was arrested for being a death eater." Harry replied. "I don't really care about that, he made a point about not being a death eater early on. I've just never had a reason to talk to him."

"Well you've got one now he's coming over here. From his scent he's a dominant." Eames warned. Harry tensed but Theodor didn't exude a threatening posture or scent, though Harry was mindful to breath through his mouth just in case.

"Hello Harry. It is Harry isn't it?" Theodor asked slyly.

"You know it is." Harry replied. "Just as I know your name, Theodor."

"Ah, our reputations preceded us it seems." Theodor stayed back, giving Harry space to flee if he wanted, giving Harry every signal that he meant no harm, he just wanted to talk. "I've heard there's been a winged Panther walking around the grounds. Would you imagine my surprise when I heard?"

"I'm guessing not very." Harry replied flatly making Theodor laugh.

"Straightforward aren't you? Well I suppose you're right. I, after all, am a mix as well." Harry cocked his head to the side, intrigued slightly by the bait. He didn't bite though.

"You assume I care." It seemed a little cold now he said it out loud but Theodor didn't seem deterred by it.

"Actually yes, I did. Your voice tells me you don't give a flying hoot but your eyes sparkle with curiosity. My, my potter didn't you ever hear the saying-"

"Curiosity killed the cat." Harry said before he could. "And satisfaction brought it back. I've heard it."

"You are increasingly difficult to hold a conversation with Harry." Theodor chuckled. "I've a feeling my presence is not very welcome." Harry's expression was guarded as he studied the boys laid back expression.

"It's not that you aren't welcome to talk to me, it's that I am wondering why. You've never attempted to speak to me before and yet now I've inherited you are interested. So forgive my standoffishness but I am wary of you." Eames coughed to cover a laugh, Harry was shooting down every attempt this boy made at sparking an interest.

"I must admit that before I didn't care if you were the boy-who-lived and to be completely honest I still don't care about that, what has me interested is indeed your inheritance but not in the way you think. Harry, I want you to go to the Ravenclaw tower later tonight. I won't be there but you'll find someone who can help you far more than those who have no idea what you are." Theodor said seriously eyeing Eames. He turned to walk away but then paused and glanced back, adding quietly. "I am like you Harry, I only want to help."

Luna came over after Theodor left and asked if he was okay, Harry smiled and nodded giving Eames a look that said 'don't say a thing'. The rest of the day was a blur, he didn't like to think so but Theodor had made an impact on Harry's mind. Curiosity certainly compelled him to go to the Ravenclaw tower. But would curiosity kill the cat?
