Chapter 4 - Hello (Rewrite)

Start from the beginning

"Hello," I let out stupidly, not knowing what else to say to her, hoping she wouldn't leave.

Her eyes flickered back to me, finally meeting mine and I swear it was as if the room stood still and no one else was here but us. She was here, really, physically here, in all her beautiful glory and I felt like I was falling in love with her again for the first time. It was as if we were transported back to the moment I had stumbled into her home studio looking for a quiet place and heard her beautiful voice fill my ears instead.

When I finally blinked, I was brought back to my reality, one where she was no longer mine and I had no right to look at her the way I was. She gasped softly, her grip on, Louis' arm tightening for support.

He looked at her then me before focusing on, Katarina, again. "Interesting," he mumbled, breaking our trance. "Love, how about we go get a drink," he offered, but the way his tone came out and the way he was pushing her, it was more of a command rather than a question.

"Is this your girlfriend?" Emily asked, Louis.

"No," I answered way too quickly. Katarina looked irritated by my sudden outburst and I couldn't help but notice the warning looks my family was giving me from behind her. Even, Louis looked annoyed by my comment.

She had that look on her face when she was about to roll her eyes, but she suppressed it. "Actually, Louis is just a real good friend," she smiled at the both of us, making my knees buckle at the beautiful sight and sound.

God, I hadn't realized how much I had missed her voice. Watching our old home movies didn't do her justice at all.

"I think they're fuck buddies," Emily giggled in my ear, pissing me of in a split second.

"This is Katarina Sloan," I informed her, the names rolling off my tongue bitterly. She knew all too well who she was. Not only was she aware that she was, technically, my ex, but she had been trying to get an internship with her office that was now run by, Olivia since she'd gone. "Katarina, this is, um," I paused, shaking my head, trying to remember her name that had suddenly escaped me.

"Emily," she answered for me when she realized I had actually forgotten her name. "His girlfriend," she added to my surprise.

"Friend," I corrected along with my mum, sister and, Louis. Clearly we were all irritated by her comment, not only was it a lie, but I'd honestly never date someone like her, I had definitely tried. I didn't have it in my to move on from Katarina. Sure, she was pretty, they were always pretty, but they weren't, Katarina, level beautiful. They lacked something on the inside that I feared, only, Katarina possessed. "If that," Louis mentioned with a sarcastic tone. If I weren't pissed, I'd probably laugh at his comment.

Judging but the grin that appeared on her face, I think that Katarina clearly thought it was funny.

"So do you all know each other?" Emily asked, trying to change the subject, though, I knew she already knew the answer.

Louis scoffed, grabbing a champagne flute that was offered to him. "Obviously," he rolled his eyes before turning around.

"She's my sister," John answered. He truly had no idea what was going on.

Emily nodded, thinking it was true. "How about you two," he hand motioned between Katarina and I, "how do you know each other?" This time, I honestly don't know if she was just trying to keep conversation going or if she was just stupid.

"Well," Louis finally acknowledges us again, focusing on Emily, "don't you think, if he just said, that's his sister and this," he pointed at me, "is his fiance's brother, that's how they might know each other?"

I couldn't help the side smile that slipped out, it was the first time in a long time that I had heard Louis make a sarcastic comment. He typically took a serious tone with me now. The growing tension was cut by a little bubbly voice. "Auntie Kit," Tommy wailed, getting, Katarina's attention. "You're here, you're really here," he yelled, tugging on poor, Odette behind him.

"Hi," she greeted her sister first, how ignored her and made here way to me.

"Odette," I scolded.

"Don't," she warned back, crossing her arms over chest.

Katarina seemed to accept Odette's dismissal, forcing her feelings away to smile at her nephew, getting down to his level to accept his embrace. He crashed into her, wrapping his arms around her neck as she whispered something to him.

He giggled slightly, releasing her as she stood up. "Come dance with me," he whined with a tug at her dress.

She excused herself from my family, following, Tommy who was dragging her onto the dance floor.

Odette just shrugged and grabbed, Louis, yanking him by his arm, like her sister, avoiding me all together. "Come on, that leaves me with you, dance with me," she ordered.

Louis took one last drink of his champagne before setting it down behind me. "Don't be an idiot, go to her," he whispered as he did so. I looked at him, questioningly as he joined both girls and Tommy out to the dance floor.

Sure, he had been all for us getting back together, but for the past few weeks he had advised me, if she did show up, to keep my distance and give her some space. Now he was telling me to go her, just like that, out of the blue.

I stared at him for a bit longer, still confused, then I turned my attention towards, Katarina who seemed to be having the best time of her life. Her smile made a smile of my own appear, carrying me to the dance floor, not too far from her. I didn't want to, but taking, Emily to dance was my only excuse to be out here now.

I kept my eyes on her, unintentionally not paying attention to, Emily as words flew out of her mouth. I could tell Katarina was purposely trying to ignore me, but that only made me stare more. It just gave me more hope that she was still feeling something for me, at this point, I'd be happy if that feeling was, hate.
