Chapter 22 - The death and the return of someone

And where I was? I was the shadow in the woods next to the road. Watching my prey. I waited another second and then started running.  

I quickly caught up with the car. Elena and Matt haven't noticed me. But then I pushed myself away, flew through the air and landed on the roof of the moving car.  

Elena asked Matt: '' Hey, you heard anything? ''  

'' No. Is there something wrong? '' Matt replied.  

Elena slowly answered: '' No... I just thought I heard something. ''  

I was still squatted on the roof. A vicious smile appeared on my face. Poor poor Elena. She had no idea what was coming and there was no possible way that she could save herself.  

I buried my fingers in the roof and tore away a piece of the roof away. Elena and Matt started screaming with shock and fear. I put on my best crazy smiles. '' Hello, cupcake. Missed me? Remember how we talked before? When I said I'll kill you before sunrise? Well here I am. ''  

That was when the car reached the restored Wickery Bridge that Rebekah burned not long ago. She was standing right in the middle of it. Her face was empty, expressionless.  

Matt screamed and turned the wheel of the car, making it fly to the river. I went down with the car as it started sinking under water. I grabbed Elena. She was trying to save herself from me but there was no use. I was easily holding her under water. I was staring in her terrified eyes. A thought came to my head.  

It is all your fault.  

Black lines appeared around my eyes and I showed her my fangs.  

Then I bit her neck.  

She opened her mouth, probably trying to scream with pain but this only made the water get in her mouth.  

I noticed how Rebekah swam closer, saving Matt. I told her before that she'll have to do this if she wants to keep him.  

I was to busy killing Elena. After I had enough of her blood I gave one last stare in to her brown eyes, with the light in them almost gone. She was dying.  

I don't know what my brothers saw in you.  

Then I snapped her neck and left her death body be carried away by the river. I swam back to the surface and pulled myself out. I sat on the beach and took a few deep breaths. Rebekah appeared in front of me. '' Matt's okay. ''  

I nodded, looked to her and smiled. '' I feel... How is it possible that this is the moment when I feel something? ''  

Rebekah turned to the river and smirked. '' Goodbye doppelganger bitch. I think I won't miss you. ''

- 3rd Person POV  

Alaric caught Stefan and Damon just when they were getting in their car. They decided that they need to go find Alice and found out what she, Rebekah and Bonnie are doing. Alaric attacked Stefan and pushed him away. He ended up on the ground, bloodied and trying to get up again. Then Alaric turned to Damon. '' Hello, old friend. ''  

Damon narrowed his blue eyes. '' Alaric, '' he simply said. '' When are you going to stop with this? ''

Alaric was one of the few persons that he cared about. When it came to friends he was just like his little sister. He had just few of them but he really trusted them and never hurt them.  

'' I came to kill you, '' Alaric said, smiling.  

Damon sighed. '' This isn't you, Alaric. ''
