Chapter:3- Classes

Start from the beginning

"Now, we shall begin. Please follow my instructions after my demonstration. Take a deep breath....try to feel the threads....try tugging them and project your thought at them....concentrate the resulting energy at the target...."

Mr. Reiner held out his hand and a ball of light similar to the one from the torches began to grow in his hands. "This", he said, "is a fairy light. I will now guide you through this. Now, close your eyes...."

As Mr. Reiner repeated the instructions over and over again, I closed my eyes and tried my best. I began to concentrate and could suddenly feel millions of threads around the room being pulled here and there. I gently tugged on a string and instantly felt a warm, tingling feeling. I tugged more strongly and felt an intense energy which I hurriedly concentrated to my open palms and in that very instant, I felt spots dancing behind my eyelids and no one was tugging on the energy threads anymore. I too stopped and when I opened my eyes, I saw everyone staring at me mouths hanging open. Mr. Reiner had a puzzled expression which was soon replaced by a hard look.

"Come with me please.", said Mr. Reiner and I followed him all the way to the Professor's office. He told me to wait outside but closed the doors behind him. Thankfully, he left a crack open and I put my ears to that. I could only just make out what their ominous whispers were.

"Professor, this girl could possibly not be human as you had claimed to all the staff."

"How can you say that Duncan. I myself read her mind and saw that she had come through The Earth Door."

"WHAT? How is this possible. The doors are meant to be locked for good even if a Mage touches them. But a human opening The Door? That's impossible."

"That's what I thought but seeing that child is proof. I suspect that she may have a noble and powerful lineage that she herself is not aware of because I have seen that she has, till now, lived a normal life."

"If that is true, then it explains how she created a mini-Sun with a fourth of its intensity. That too on her first try. This girl may just be our Prima or His Driana."

"Yes that may be. But we must be careful and do our best to make her ours."

"Yes Professor."

As the conversation ended, I returned to my original spot with my mind reeling. A mini-Sun? Me? Did I actually do that? And what's all this talk about a Prima and a Driana? And who is He? And if I did make a baby Sun,then do I really have a Mage as an ancestor? And if so, who?

I decided that the only way without letting them know of my eavesdropping and ending up in trouble was to check out the library for information. Instantly, the door opened and Mr. Reiner walked out. He said that he had just informed the Professor of my wonderful progress and I should get going to my next class. My next class being Runeology, I wondered if something weird would happen there as well. I followed the map to a classroom where everyone seemed to be focusing on a rock and saying strange words over and over again. The teacher, a woman with brown hair tied in a ponytail and her wise grey eyes settled on me and she beckoned me forward.

"I am Ms. Haley. I have heard through the Professor's telepathy what a gifted child you are and would like see so for myself. We are practicing turning a rock into any precious gem. Runeology comes from the soul. Everyone has a different rune for a different purpose."

She guided me to a mat like the ones on which all my classmates were seated and laid out four rocks, a paper and a pen. She stepped back.

"Now, imagine a rock turning into a precious stone and write down what rune you can see in your mind."

I did as instructed. I imagined and ordinary lump of rock transforming into a beautifully polished diamond. I could also see the faint out line of a star. Instantly, I opened my eyes and drew the star on the paper.

"Good. Now keep staring at the rune and write down the first word that come to your mind."

I stared and stared and could soon hear a hissing voice spit out a word: Brinsdrof

I scribbled the word down on paper and awaited further instructions.

"Now, try bending the threads towards you and write in the air."

I closed my eyes and tugged on a string and projected my thought to write my name in the air. I opened my eyes and saw fiery letters forming my name in the air. I felt proud of my rapid progress and smiled.

"Great. Now try drawing your rune in the air and say your spell while focusing on the rocks."

This time, I wanted to see the magic and its effects and so I kept my eyes open. I pulled the threads once more and drew a fiery star. Focusing all my mind on the four rocks, I said Brinsdorf in a voice with strange confidence. Instantly, the star began to shine and as the light touched the lumpy, grey, rough rocks, they all transformed into polished rubies and emeralds. But the star didn't stop there. It spun and moved to the center of the room and shone brighter, thus turning everyone's stones into gems.

Once again the same reaction as the previous class followed. As the gong sounded and the teacher left, people began crowding around me.

"How did you do that?"

"Are you a noble"

"Is your Companion a Dragon?"

As I stuttered, a hand pulled me out and we ran through the corridor and hid at the turn. As I caught my breath, I saw that it was Michelle who saved me.As she asked me how I did that, I told her everything I knew of the matter including my eavesdropping episode. Somehow, Michelle's caring nature made me want to trust her. She seconded my idea of the library and said that she would come with me at lunch. We hurried to our next class after our discussion.

We had to go through the courtyard and to Greenhouse Eight for our Herbology lesson. We had to grow Magic Ivy. We were all given a seed and a pot filled with dirt. We all dug a hole, put in the seed and added water. Once the hole was covered, we had to give it a magical boost. As expected, mine went through the ceiling. The same procedure as the last class followed. As the gong sounded, we ran for lunch.

I really should get to that library and fast.
