Chapter Fourteen

"I'm Esme, I've heard a lot about you." She says with a kind smile and small giggle.

As we walk home we discuss what happened yesterday at April's house.

"You're very brave Eleanor, I don't know how you managed to say yes to Jai. I would have been so scared." I shrug and give her my best 'It was nothing' look. I still haven't mentioned what Luke had told me today or the little fiasco in the library. I make a promise to myself to tell them when we get to Aprils house.

We continue to gossip until we reach the top of our road.

"Guys I'm just going to pop into my house to tell my parents that I'm going to yours." They both nod and we part onto different paths.

When I come closer to my drive I notice that one of the two cars are gone.

I get into my house and search the first floor. I can't seem to hear or see my parents. They told me that they started work next week, but I guess something must have come up. As usual.

I quickly get changed and write a small note to my parents telling them where I am. I place the note on the kitchen counter and grab my bag. As I do, I hear a quiet buzz coming from the side pocket. I ignore it and leave the house.

....

After we finish having dinner at April's we go back up stairs.

I like Esme, we have more in common than I thought we would, including the fact that we both moved here from England. We have been getting to know each other for less that two hours and I already know so much about her.

I have learned that she has two brothers, one aged seventeen (Liam) and the other, twenty two (Josh). She likes to read poems, just as I like to write them. We both don't like tomatoes and we both love drama and history. Best of the lot, we are all into the same youtbers and read the same books.

I wonder if she likes me too.

When we get back upstairs we plonk our selves back onto Aprils bed and continue to gossip.

"Eleanor, we were going to tell you earlier, but we thought you might be a little upset to talk about it." Esme starts.

"Tell me what?"

"We know about what happened with you and Jai today, in the library."

"What did he tell you?" My question comes out as more of a demand and I start to panic.

"Well this probably isn't the right version of the story, as it came from Jai. But he told us that he came to find you in the library after I told him where you were..." April said, but stopped to let Esme tell the rest of the story.

"He said, that he found you and Luke doing things. You know?" She nods her head, but I don't catch on. Doing what things? I'm so confused.

"Basically he claims that he saw you feeling up Luke in the library. And lost it." April says, saving Esme from beating around the bush.

"He came running to us before registration, red in the face. He said that he had hurt you with his words and that he felt really bad and that he wanted to make it up to you." By this moment I am sitting on the bed with my mouth wide open. Jai has made me out to be some sort of prostitute, that takes boys to the library to feel them up! I can't believe he would lie like this. After knowing that he had already upset me today. What happened to not jeopardising the relationship?

"That is not what happened. Well it is, but not like that. I was only touching Luke to feel his bruises!" I defend, saying it all a little bit too quickly.

"Wait, what bruises?" Esme said quickly, suddenly looking very concerned about Luke.

"Well that night after the dare, Luke told me that Beau got angry and hit him. He had bruises all over his ribcage and chest. I only wanted to see them, just to observe how bad the damage really was. When he pulled up his shirt I touched them, well prodded them. Only for like a second though guys, I swear." My words are rushed and panicked. I hope they believe me. I know they've known Jai for longer and should believe him, but they should also know how much he lies and likes to deceive people. I've only known him for two days and I know that well enough.

"Don't worry, we believe you Eleanor, every word. But be careful because Beau might not." April says trying her best to reassure me. But unfortunately her comment only made me feel worse. If Beau got that angry at Jai because he thought he was going to do something to me, imagine what he'd do if he found out that Luke and I were in the library together.

My only hope now is if Luke gets to him before Jai. That way he'll hear the real story not the pack of lies that Jai is spreading about.

"You know what girls? We can't stand for this! If he messes with one of us, he messes with us all!" April stands up and shouts. Her voice is in the style of a battle cry, which makes Esme and I laugh.

"She's right Eleanor, best friends work as one! We can't let him get away with this, I say we get him back for what he has done!" Esme stands as well.

I join them timidly.

"Guys, I'm not sure if revenge is the best option here." I say meekly. They both look at me and laugh.

"You are a solider Eleanor and it is your duty to take part in operation 'Destroy the bad boy'." April shouts in her army voice. We all laugh, and they look at me for my approval.

I don't give my self time to contemplate about the pros and cons of my decision. I simply turn to them both and say:

"Aye, Aye captains."

We jump up and down clapping and squealing for a while. Before sorting out a bullet proof plan.

"Wait guys I forgot to tell you some valuable information." I say breaking their concentration.

"What?" They say in unison.

"Not long after the argument in the library, he texted me saying this:" I retrieve my phone from my bag and notice a missed call from Beau.

I am tempted to excuse myself to go and call him back, but I'm scared that he might be calling about the library situation. I bury the thoughts of him into the back of my mind and focus on the mission.

I show them the text and they both gawp. I can tell they both had to read it twice too.

"Wow. He really wants it don't he." Esme says, still shocked.

"Yeah." April replies.

"I don't understand. What dose he want from me?"

"Sex." They both say in unison again.

They both break into shrieks of laughter after seeing my horrified expression. There is no way that I am going to do anything along those lines with Jai.

Jai of all people! This must be some sort of sick joke. The most I've done with anyone is kiss them. And yet the only two people I've ever kissed are Troye and Beau. I don't consider it as a bad thing and this is the way that I had intended it to stay.

They think of their cunning plan and inform me in on it.

I am glad to finally say that, Operation: Destroy the bad boy. Is now underway.
