Only Road We Know

"Bro... Really!?" Khalil pipes up quickly at my request "I know you like her and all but that is dangerous going all that way for one person!"

"Aye it's not even like that!... Okay it is a little like that but still!" I say with defeat in my voice. "I would never put you guys in a situation without your safety at the top of my list you know that... besides Jade and I talked about this and Brittany was important for the group should anything like this happen its for the best... I promise."

Tyler takes a puff off his cigarette, "It's no problem, boss. Florida here we come!" 

As we head out the city we pull over to the side and look back. Plumes of smoke rise from all over the city. Flames engulf the building downtown and the city falls into chaos. I send out one message each to Jade and Brittany. To Jade I send out "I highly doubt you will get this but it's worth a shot. We are on the way dude give us some time but we are coming.". To Brittany I send, "Give us like a day and a half if we drive none stop we can be there in 26 hours or so stay safe we are on the way." I hit send however part of me feels let down expecting the worst on both ends.

We take one last look at the city that was once our home and hop back in the truck and begin our 8 hour journey through the desert before we hit city again. We decide however, that before we hit a big city which is bound to have all kinds of vehicles dead in the road we should chart a route through the sticks picking up fuel and other supplies along the way. Tyler pulls out his road map he picked up on the way back home this 4th of July and we chart a route bypassing any major roads. 

"Oh lord this is going to be our real life State of Decay..." I say with a slight chuckle. 

"Tyler is going to be the redneck cop that gets infected and dies." Nick blurts out and we all laugh"

"Ha Ha Fuck you guys too." Tyler says with a smile on his face. "Let's go east bitches."
