Janice still looks unsure of what to do Richard - Jan love, whatever's the matter. You look like you've seen a ghost! Janice - No, not a ghost dear, just Bea Smith Richard - Huh? Janice points over to where Bea and Chloe are walking ahead of them, still oblivious to their presence Richard looks shocked
Its daytime in Australia and the women are in the Recroom They seem in high spirits Judy and Sasha are sitting together Judy - Well that was quite an impressive fireworks display last night eh gals! The women all seem to agree Sasha - I feel we should try and find a way to thank Mr Moran, he has been very kind to us over Christmas and new year, very few prison governors would be this good to us Judy - I agree love, just not sure what we can really do for him though
Back in London Richard looks at Bea and Chloe in shock Richard - Bloody small world isn't it, I never in a million years expected to see them here Janice - Yes, just what we need isn't it Richard - What are we going to do about it? Janice - I'm not sure yet Richard - I suppose we can't really ignore the fact we've seen them can we? Janice - I think we should follow them and see where they go Richard - And then what? Janice - I don't know yet, I will decide when we get there. Come on, let's make sure we don't lose them and try not to let them see us if we can
At Wentworth Vera and Bob are in the staff room Vera - Any news on Tone? Bob - Yes I got an update from the hospital this morning, she is on the mend now. No real harm was done Vera - Well that's a relief, I was worried about her. Still proves what a feral animal Winter is. They really need to catch her soon, scum like her shouldn't be free to roam among decent people Bob - I don't expect her to stay out for long, they rarely ever do. She'll be caught and be back here soon enough Vera - If you ask me she should go to Black... Vera pauses with an embarrassed smile Vera - I keep forgetting Bob smiles too Bob - You're not the only one, I catch myself forgetting for a moment too sometimes Vera - I find it hard to get my head around the idea that they are going to turn Wentworth into a super-prison Bob - Yes, I am struggling with it too, but I think we will just have to get used to it because it's going to happen whether we like it or not
Charing Cross London Underground station The platform is packed with people Janice and Richard are watching Bea and Chloe from a little distance away Richard - How are we going to manage to follow them in this crowd without losing them or being seen by them? This is going to be difficult Janice - The crowd will assist us in avoiding being spotted by them. As for avoiding losing them, that's down to us and making sure we keep alert A tube train pulls into the station and the doors open The crowds begin to pack into the carriage Bea and Chloe enter and Janice and Richard follow, keeping a safe distance away...
...Bea and Chloe get off the tube at Clapham Common Janice and Richard follow them
Eileen is alone in her home when the phone rings Reluctantly she answers it Eileen - Hello? There is no answer Eileen looks irritated Eileen - Look Ted I know it's you! You may as well quit playing childish games at once! It is indeed Ted on the other end Ted - I am annoyed that I failed to kill you last night, I will try again you can be sure of it! Eileen - You will regret what you did, no one tries to kill me and gets away with it Ted - Next time I try I will succeed! Eileen - You will not succeed! Ted - Yes I will! Eileen - You will not because you shan't get a chance. I will see to it that you pay the price for what you did to me and that will be the end of it Ted sneers down the phone Ted - And just what the hell do you think you can do to me you murdering bitch? Eileen - You'll find out Eileen hangs up
Bea and Chloe walk the dark streets of Clapham Common. Now it is deathly quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds earlier Bea - Did you enjoy yourself tonight love? Chloe - Oh yes Nan, I had a wonderful night Bea - I told you everything would be ok didn't I? The future will be bright and happy for us both and we will never be apart again Chloe looks happy but then sad Chloe - I know and I am happy but I still miss mum and dad Bea looks sad too Bea- I know darling if I could bring them back I would. They were good people, they didn't deserve what happened to them They arrive by a block of flats Bea - I am glad to be home, at last, I could murder a hot drink and a comfy chair. Let's get in from the cold! They go inside Janice and Richard are watching from the shadows They see as a light goes on in one of the first-floor flats Bea and Chloe can be seen in the lounge room Bea arrives by the curtains and pulls them closed Richard - Now you tell me what we do now Jan? We've followed them all this way in the middle of the night. We are miles from our hotel and we won't be able to get a tube back now and I am freezing out here. So what's next? Janice looks unsure...
...Inside the flat, Bea switches the kettle on Bea - After we've had our drinks we should think about going to bed, it's nearly 1 am Chloe - I don't feel sleepy Nan! Can't we stay up a bit longer? Bea- And do what? We can't make too much noise, we have to think of the neighbours, I don't want to do anything to upset them Chloe - We can play a board game or something I dunno. I just don't feel sleepy, I am wide awake...
...Bea and Chloe are sitting down drinking hot drinks and playing scrabble Bea - Getting tired yet? Chloe - No Nan, not yet. Still wide awake! Suddenly the doorbell goes, startling them both They both seem on guard immediately Bea - Who the hell could it be this time of the night? Chloe - You don't think it's....well you know, the cops? Bea - God I hope not Chloe - What are we going to do? The doorbell goes again Janice calls out from outside the door Janice - Come on Smith open up, I know you're in there Bea looks shocked Bea -- Flaming hell, it's that bitch Janice Raymond, what the hell is she doing here? Chloe - You know who it is? Bea - Yes I know her alright. What I don't know is how she tracked us down here. I knew the bitch was smart but not that smart. She has come to ruin everything no doubt Janice is losing patience outside Janice - COME ON SMITH, OPEN UP NOW. I'M LOSING PATIENCE HERE! Bea looks panicked Bea - Oh god, I don't know what to do! Chloe - I think we have to let her in Nan, what other choice do we have? She isn't going to go away is she
GATESLAM PART 2
Bea opens the door to Janice and Richard Janice - About time Smith, I was starting to think I would have to get Richard to break the door in! Bea looks at Richard in surprise Bea - You're here too? Janice - Going to invite us in then or not? Bea - Come in... They go inside Janice makes herself comfortable in a chair Janice - Richard and I could murder a coffee, right Rich? Richard looks deeply awkward at the situation Bea - Forget about coffee, I want to know how you found us here. Did you hire a private detective? Janice laughs Janice - Get a grip, Smith, I'm not that interested in you! Bea - Then how did you find us? Janice - Richard and I are over here on our honeymoon. this is just a coincidence and yet another example of what a small world we live in Bea looks at Richard and gives him a sorrowful look Bea - So you actually married her then? You poor man! Surely you weren't that desperate, were you? There are plenty of women you could have picked! Janice - I wouldn't start being cocky if I were you, Smith, you're not really in a position to be right now Bea - Let me guess, you are either going to blackmail me or turn me in? Richard looks almost offended Richard - I am certainly not going to be blackmailing you, Smith, it's not the sort of behavior I engage in! Bea - You maybe not but you're new wife would Janice - I'm not here to blackmail you, Smith Bea - You're going to turn me in then? If you want to do it I am not going to fight you or run. I promised Chloe that we wouldn't live a life on the run, it's not fair on her. I told her that either we made this work here or it doesn't work and I go back to prison, no other option. No running away again So if that's what you want to do then you win Janice - The fact is I haven't decided what to do yet Smith. that's why I am here talking to you now. I could easily have called the police right away and they would have been here by now Janice walks around the flat, examining the place Janice- Not a bad little flat is it Bea - it works for us for sure Janice - Tell me what sort of life you're both having. I need to know that Chloe is safe and happy here before I make my decision Bea - I am working as a hairdresser. the money is not great but it's enough to get by on and Chloe is attending a local school. She has made friends and is doing well there Janice - How did you manage all this and avoid detection? Bea - We have new identities. I also have some friends here who are helping me out. There is no reason why Chloe and I can't settle here and have a happy life, it's really down to you now whether that happens or not Janice - You're an escaped criminal and one I was never friends with, why should I do you such a huge favor now? Especially when I could be in trouble if anyone ever found out Bea - How would anyone find out, if you don't tell anyone I certainly won't Janice - But again I must ask why should I do you any favors. Bea - It wouldn't be me you'd be doing it for, it would be Chloe Janice looks at Chloe Chloe has been sitting head bowed, looking agitated Janice smiles a Chloe Janice - Talk to me, tell me your feelings on all this Chloe has a pleading look on her face as she talks to Janice Chloe - I want you to go away and let us be happy here, please don't turn Nan in I am begging you. We are happy here and making a good life. I don't want my nan to go back to prison, I don't want to be apart from her. She's all I have now after I lost my mummy Thelma and daddy Donald Janice - Are you sure this is how you really feel? If it isn't you can tell me. don't be afraid. I can help you if you need it Chloe - The only help we need is if you pretend you never saw us. Please...I know you don't like my Nan much, that's obvious to see, but do it for me. I am asking you please, just go and pretend you never saw us Janice turns to Richard Janice - What do you think we should do? You're involved in this too Richard looks at Chloe and then at Bea Both of them look desperate Richard speaks Richard - let's just go Jan, let them have their new life here. It's a new year, a new start for us two, lets show some compassion and let them have a new start too Janice still looks a little unsure Janice - I don't know... She looks at Chloe Chloe - Please... Janice looks at Richard again Janice - Can we really walk away and pretend we never saw them? Richard nods his head Richard - Yes Jan, we can. Like I say new year, new start Janice stands up Janice - Ok Smith, we won't turn you in Bea - Thank you... Janice - I'm doing it for Chloe, not for you. I can see she is happy and she deserves a fresh start after what Clements did to her parents. Just try and make a go of it will you Bea - Yes absolutely Janice - Come on then Richard, let's go Bea - How will you get back to where you need to be this time in the morning? Janice - I'm sure we can catch a night bus. Anyway I could use a walk Janice looks at Chloe Janice - Good luck love! I'm glad to see you happy after what you went through Chloe - Thanks...and thank you for not turning us in Janice smiles kindly Janice - I'm not a monster despite what some people might think...
...Janice and Richard are walking in the night Janice - I do hope we're doing the right thing by not informing the police Richard - I think we are. You saw how happy it made that young girl Janice - Yes I did They both smile
Bea and Chloe are sitting down as Bea pours herself a whisky Chloe - Do you think they really will leave us be and not report us? Bea - I don't know, i hope not. I don't think he will but she is still a definite possibility Chloe - I think we could still run away again somewhere else just incase Bea shakes her head Bea - No I told you, I don't want to spend our lives always on the run. We have to make it work here or it doesn't work at all and it's as simple as that. All we can do is hope and pray that Janice doesn't go back on her word. I guess she seemed genuine enough but it's hard to tell with her
Eileen is leaving a building, in the late evening, and heading to her car when she spots Ted watching her from his car across the road She storms over Eileen - Ted what are you playing at? Ted - just passing the time Eileen - Are you following me? Trying to scare me? I will tell you now that it won't work Ted! I will inform the police Ted - And what will you tell them? I haven't done anything have i Eileen - I will tell them that you are bothering me and that will be all I need to do to get some action against you Ted - You have me all wrong, what I actually wanted to do was invite you to have dinner with me tonight, now I can't be any friendlier than that can i Eileen - What are you playing at now Ted? Ted - I merely wish to apologize for trying to drown you that's all, I realize it was completely beyond the pale and I do not know what came over me to make me act like that Eileen - Yes it was totally beyond the pale, but I don't buy for one second that you are sorry. I don't buy this sudden turnaround Ted - Please Eileen I am genuine. Allow me to make amends, please Eileen - Ok I will have dinner with you, but only in a public restaurant. I refuse to meet you alone away from other people Ted - Of course, I understand that and I expected it also. That's why I booked a table for us for tonight in the best restaurant in town. The table's booked for 8 pm, I hope you can make it? Eileen - In that case, I will go home and get ready. See you there at 8 Ted looks pleased
Judy is watching the sunset from the window in her cell Sasha is sitting on the bed with a cup of tea and a magazine Sasha - You'll strain your neck if you stay like that Jude Judy steps down and sits beside Sasha Judy - It's one of the things I miss the most, being able to see the sunset without seeing it through bars with an obstructed view Sasha - You'll be out soon enough and then you will be able to see it Judy - I hope so Sasha - You will be, I see no reason for your parole to get delayed any longer now Sasha picks up a second cup of tea for Judy Sasha - While you were at the window I made you this Judy - Thanks love Judy takes her tea and takes a sip Judy - You know something, while I was at the window I was thinking about Bea. She and Chloe are out there free and happy. I just know it, I can feel it Judy looks happy
London Janice and Richard are sitting on a bench by the Thames watching the sun rise over London Janice - Beautiful isn't it Richard - Yes, sure is Janice - Las Vegas next Richard, we have to go to Las Vegas next Richard - We will eventually, might not be for a few years yet Janice - I can be patient, just as long as I go there once in my life...Right now I wish we could stay here a little longer, I am having such a lovely time Richard - Seeing Bea and Chloe hasn't ruined it then? Janice - No way, I admit it was something of a shock, but this has still been an amazing honeymoon. I've loved every minute of it
Chloe is sleeping as Bea talks on the phone Bea - I need to see you today, can you come and meet me?
Eileen is dressed up and ready for her meal with Ted Her doorbell goes and she answers Freddie is standing at the door. Freddie is the guy who abducted Tommy from the hospital for Eileen way back in Episode 732 Eileen examines her watch Eileen - Well you're punctual as usual Fred Freddie - You said you had a job for me, Eileen? Eileen - Yes that's right, I will have to give you the details quickly as I am due to a dinner date very soon so no time to hang around. But this is a very straightforward job for you, Fred
The Recroom Judy, Sasha, and Katie are there together Judy - How's it going in the Restaurant for you two anyway? Sasha looks delighted Sasha - It's going great Jude, truly great. I am a natural according to chef and Marcus Katie looks down in the dumps Katie - It's going great for you maybe, but let's face it I suck big time. I may have to pull out soon and admit that I am a crap cook Sasha -No Katie you mustn't give up. Just keep at it, love Katie - At least I can say I gave it a go. But there's nothing wrong in admitting that you're just not good at something sometimes Katie looks ever the more sorry for herself Katie - The trouble is I am yet to find anything I am good at. I found out I was good at cleaning toilets and that's about it Judy - Oh honey, you poor thing eh Judy comforts Katie
Abigail is alone in her cell when Marina arrives in the doorway and stands to observe her Abigail has her back to Marina and has not noticed her yet
Ted is waiting in a Restaurant as Eileen arrives to meet him Ted smiles Ted - I am glad you came, I wasn't sure if you would Eileen - I wasn't sure either to be totally honest with you, but I decided I was curious and wanted to hear what you have to say, Ted
Abigail senses she is being watched and turns around She is startled at the sight of Marina Abigail - Can I help you, Miss? Marina enters the cell with a smile Marina - I thought we could have a little chat Freestone, it could be most useful Abigail - A chat about what? Marina - I couldn't help noticing that you do not seem to have any friends, a real loner Abigail - In here yes, I do not need or want any friends, but on the outside, I have many wonderful friends Marina - Would you say you hate this lot? Abigail - Yes, pretty much Marina - You wouldn't do them any favours then? Abigail - No way, never! Marina smirks Marina - That's good Freestone, that means you can work for me Abigail - Work for you? Marina - Indeed yes, help me run this place and keep that lot in line. Abigail - What would be in it for me if I helped you? Marina - Special privileges as and when you do me proud Abigail - Yes...do carry on. What else? Marina delivers a disarming smile before grabbing Abigail and pulling her up off the bed She punches her hard in the stomach Marina - YOU WILL SPARE YOURSELF FROM ONE OR TWO THRASHINGS IF YOU WORK FOR ME TOO, IS THAT INCENTIVE ENOUGH? Abigail -BITCH! Marina hits her again Marina - I suggest you work on how you talk to me. All the time I get such a level of disrespect I will hurt you time and again! Abigail - Ok, I'm sorry Miss! Marina - I know you are, they always are after I punish them! Learn a lesson from it and let's move on and start making a few plans. I do not wish to waste any more time now
Eileen and Ted are sitting together Eileen - I'll get right to the point...spare me the bullshit and just tell me the reason you wanted this meal Ted - The real reason you mean? Eileen - Yes Ted, that reason Ted sips his wine Ted - It's like I told you, Eileen, I am sorry I tried to drown you, it was way out of line and I want us to make up Eileen - And you are no longer bothered about Joan? Ted - No not particularly. What's done is done and it's time to move on. I'd still like us to get married too Eileen claps her hands together Eileen - Good performance Ted, really I have to hand it to you, you belong in Hollywood with a performance like that... shame I don't buy a word of it though Ted - What more can I say to convince you? You're a difficult woman Eileen Eileen- I'm nobody's fool you mean. Well you're right, I can smell bullshit a mile off Ted -You weren't so good at smelling it the other night when you put yourself alone in a vulnerable position with me Eileen - Yes you're right there, I let my guard down that time, I can't deny that. But what I can say is that that won't be happening again. I won't be putting myself in a situation like that again...so, tell me now how you really feel because I am not buying any of this crap Ted leans across the table to whisper Ted - You know you're right Eileen, it is all crap. I was trying to lure you into a false sense of security but you're far too smart for that. I was wasting my time but it was worth a try Eileen - So now tell me the truth Ted - The truth is this...I will never forgive you for what you did and I will keep chipping away bit by bit until I destroy you Eileen - You'll try sure, but you won't succeed Ted - I will play the long game, I may not succeed at first but I will get there eventually. I may have knockbacks along the way, and lose a few rounds, but I will bounce back and never give up. I will do all I can to avenge Joan's death Eileen - You'd really be better off letting it drop as you can never beat me. Many try and they never succeed Ted - You really are a piece of work, you don't even care what you do to others, the harm you cause Eileen - Everything I do I do for a reason. As for Joan dying, that was an unfortunate accident as you well know. I did not intend anyone's death from that, I didn't expect that damn building to fall Ted - But now that it has you won't lose sleep over it because you don't really care, right? Eileen - Oh I care, I care over the damn headache it caused me. I could have done without it frankly! Ted - You self-absorbed bitch, I meant about all the people who died because of your corner-cutting Eileen - Like I say it was unfortunate... Ted - Just shut up, I can't stand to hear any more of it. Just be prepared for your life to be ruined, I mean business here Eileen - I'm sure you do and I wish you luck with that Ted stands up Ted - Now that we've had this chat I can't stand to be around you, so I am going to the bar to get drunk and remember my sister. You can do whatever the hell you like I don't care Ted walks away Eileen watches him go with a grin on her face
Back with marina and Abigail Marina - So the first project is going to have to be that ridiculous Restaurant and getting it closed down. It's a joke and I can't sit back and allow anything like that to remain open in a prison I am working in Abigail - But the Restaurant was all Moran's idea and has his full backing. He will never close it Marina - That is why he must be left with no choice, in fact, the choice will not be his to make by the time we're done. It will be the department that orders the closure of the Restaurant after we have set it up to fail Abigail - And how will we do that? Marina - It's more a case of how you will do it... I'll give you the instructions of course, but you will be the one doing all the work. For a start, you can put your name down to work there. That way once you are inside and behind enemy lines, you can get to work. Between the two of us, we will close that stupid place down in no time Abigail - Sasha won't like that, she really loves working there and getting trained Marina - Upsetting Cartwright bothers you does it? Abigail grins and shakes her head Abigail - No miss, I hate her! Marina - Good girl! I hate her too Abigail - Why? You hardly know her yet Marina - She's the top dog and I hate top dogs, they are always trouble and need to be kept in their place, shown who is boss, and prevented from getting too big for their boots
In London, there is a flash of Winter sunshine peeking out from the clouds Janice and Richard are in Trafalgar Square, sitting by the fountains They are feeding the pigeons Janice - I am starting to feel good about Bea and Chloe. I'm glad we left them alone, why cause them misery when we don't have to? Richard - Exactly, we can go back knowing we did something nice for them rather than knowing we put someone back in prison on a life sentence and separated an orphaned child from her grandmother Janice - I just hope they have the tools to make a go of it here, it's going to be hard for them and it's that poor kid I worry about Richard - They can make it, Smith is a tough and determined woman Janice- Yes she's that alright Richard - It looked to me like they have already made a good start, they are set up nicely in that flat, Smith has a job and Chloe goes to school. Most importantly Chloe looked happy and healthy, I think they will be just fine Janice - I hope so, we can't do anything to help them though, we can only leave them to it Richard looks at his watch Richard - Shall we take a little stroll towards Leicester Square now? I was thinking we could have a bite to eat in Pizza Hut or something before the show starts Janice - Yes, my butt is getting numb sitting here, let's go Janice tosses a last piece of bread down for the pigeons Janice - There you go you greedy mongrels, no more left now They watch as the pigeons fight for the bread Richard - Right let's go, I am starving They get up and walk across Trafalgar Square, arms linked together
At their flat Bea is watching ''Carry on Camping'' on the tv. Kenneth Williams and Hattie Jacques are on the screen Chloe is sleeping on the sofa. The late night has caught up on her The key turns in the front door and Bea sits bolt-upright in her chair The door opens and a man enters Bea runs to greet him with a happy smile The man is Ken Pearce They sit down and Bea explains what happened Bea - It gave me one hell of a scare I can tell you, but they promised not to shop us in Ken - God Bea, I can imagine. What if they go back on it? Bea - Somehow I don't think they will, I think it will be ok Ken - I can move you both if need be Bea - No Ken, we're settled here, I don't want to keep moving her around to different places, it's not fair Ken - If you're sure? Bea - I am, I really don't think Janice is going to tell anyone. I know her well enough to know when she is genuine or not and in a funny way, I think me and her understand each other, and maybe even respect each other. I never quite hated her as much as I hated the likes of Ferguson and Bennett Ken - It's still a bit of a shock to see you again after all these years Bea Bea - You did say to get in touch if I ever needed you Ken - Yes and I meant it, I never expected you to follow me to London though! Bea - I hope I'm not a burden to you? Ken - No of course not Bea, I am happy to help you always, you know that They smile at each other
Ted is propping up the bar in the Restaurant, he appears well on the way to being drunk Eileen appears at the bar Ted - Haven't you gone yet? Eileen - I thought I'd stick around for a bit, and see if you needed someone to give you a hand getting home. You are well plastered Ted - I don't need help from anyone. least of all you. Now bugger off! Eileen - Are you planning to drive home Ted - Yes of course, how else would I get home? Eileen - You are far too drunk for that! Imagine if you had an accident and killed someone, how would you live with it? Ted - Well you seem to manage ok, maybe I'd take a few leaves out of your book on that one Eileen - You look a pathetic, wretched trainwreck of a man tonight Ted. You will have a job convincing me that you mean business and that I should be in any way scared of you Ted - You should be scared, I said so Eileen - Trouble is that right now you're about as scary as a bowl of jelly! You'll have to lay off the booze and toughen up a bit before I take you seriously Ted slurs his words Ted - You'll see....you'll all see in time. I'll show you all just what Ted Ferguson is capable of! Eileen - Sober up first though eh! The funny thing about drunks is that they are never in control of anything, that's why I rarely ever get drunk you see, I like being in control Ted - I'm having this drink tonight to remember Joan that's all. Soon I will sober up and then I will be in control, you'll see. I won't make a habit of drinking! Eileen - I'm sure you won't and I am sure I should be terrified of you Ted!
Bea, Ken, and Chloe are walking together in a London Park Chloe walks on ahead a little as Bea and Ken stroll together Bea - This is what you miss when you're in prison, the simple things. Just being able to walk in the park, smell the fresh air, feel the breeze on our faces, listen to the birds, and see the trees and the grass. Inside its all so grey and dull, with no colour, no life Ken - Nothing beats being free, it's only when you spend time behind bars you realize how important it is and how much you take for granted when you are free Bea - I've been lonely all these years without a man in my life, I still have feelings for you, Ken, I think you know that Ken - Yes Bea, I do know it Bea - Any chance for us or am I being a fool again? Ken - Well I'm not with Marion anymore so I'd say there's a good chance yes. One step at a time though They smile at each other Bea links arms with Ken and he doesn't push her away They carry on walking along linking arms and looking like a couple Chloe is still walking ahead. She is singing to herself, daydreaming, happy, carefree
Ted walks out into the car park of the Restaurant. It is pretty dark with little lighting He climbs into the driver's side of his car He is well drunk Someone has followed him out of the Restaurant and yells at him in concern Man - I REALLY DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD BE DRIVING IN THAT STATE! Ted - BUGGER OFF AND MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS! Eileen is watching from the shadows Ted slams the car door shut and turns the key in the ignition The car blows up in a spectacular fireball
GATESLAM PART 3
It's morning time as Abigail and Katie are heading into the showers. Judy, Sasha, and Martha are already there getting dried off. Judy - So Sash, how about a little thank you party for Mr Moran later in the Recroom to thank him for being such a bloody great governor? I'll ask one of the screws to get the banners and streamers out Sasha - That's a sweet idea, Jude, we should thank him for our Christmas and new year treat Martha is getting into a Cubicle. Abigail drags her back and jumps in before her. Martha(shrieks) - You Animal! Can't you show me some respect? Katie - Stick around gals I've got a show for you! Judy notices Katie fiddling around with something in her Dressing Gown. Judy - Hey up...What's that you've got there honey? Katie - (chuckles): Little surprise for her Ladyship over there (looks at Abigail) Judy - If you're thinking of putting a Razor Blade in her Soap then you've left it a bit late. She's already started. Katie - Go and distract the Screws, eh? That's a good girl Bryant Judy - I'm not risking my upcoming Parole to help you Katie - Just do it please cos you're a soft touch and we are mates right, do it for me, Jude, please! I'm flaming desperate here! Judy (sighs) - Oh, Alright Judy walks over to Vera Judy - I must make a phone call to Lori today Vera (sighs) - You lot never stop do you! Honestly, I am fed up with it now Katie approaches Abigail Katie - The nice warm shower is it, Abigail! Abigail - Lovely cheers, all the hot water will be gone by the time you and Dawson get here Abigail looks smug Katie (loudly for everyone's attention)- That's what bugs the bejesus out of me about her. Ask her a civil question and she delights in tormenting you and being a complete bitch Abigail (sarcastic) - I'm sorry. Katie - What for? Being a pompous cow, for using all our hot water...or even for infecting my poor husband with AID's! Abigail - None of those! I am never sorry for a thing! Judy - Leave her alone, eh Katie? You've made your point. Katie - Like hell I have! She killed my Stanley! Abigail - Please, give it a rest before you bore us all to death. Your husband was a useless Turnip anyway, all men are Katie - I've heard enough now. What do you reckon girls? A few 'Yeah's are heard from the women. Katie - I hate you for what you did to my husband and at last I will get my revenge, Freestone! Katie pulls a Toaster from her Dressing Gown and hurls it into Abigail's Shower. The toaster drops to the bottom of the shower with a loud thud Everyone stands there while nothing happens Abigail steps out of the shower and drapes a towel around herself Abigail - You wanted to give me a toaster as a present? Why couldn't you wait till later? It's all wet now and probably ruined Vera looks in Vera - What the devil's all the noise about? Abigail - Oh it's Anderton, Miss Bennett. Don't know why but she seems to have brought me a toaster as a gift this morning. Only it got all wet in the shower so it won't work anymore now will it? Doesn't she know how silly it is to ruin a perfectly good toaster? Abigail shoves Katie aside and leaves the shower room Katie looks sorry for herself Katie - I wanted to kill her! Sasha - I know you did love, but you have to plug it in first otherwise it won't do the job! Katie - But I couldn't plug it in could I and hide it with the lead coming out of my dressing gown! That would be impossible! Sasha - Quite, well then it was a silly thing to try wasn't it, totally unrealistic. The toaster offers no threat if it's not plugged onto the mains Katie - Well I will not let this setback stop me, I will try again and again!
Janice and Richard are in the reception with Sue Sue smiles at them Sue - Back from your honeymoon then? Janice - Yes sadly Sue - Did you have a good time? Janice - We had a great time thanks, really we didn't want to come back, we wanted to stay longer Sue - You must tell me all about it later when we go on a break Janice -I will Sue - So, goodbye Miss Raymond, hello Mrs. Clements eh? Janice - Yes, Janice Clements, sounds better than Janice Raymond, don't you think? Sue - yes I do, sounds grander Janice - What's been going on here while we were away, did I miss much?....
Katie is shown into the office, by Vera, to see a severe-looking Bob Bob - Miss Bennett tells me you tried to electrocute Freestone with a toaster this morning, is that true? Katie laughs Katie - No Mr Moran it is not true at all. I threw that toaster into her shower as a harmless prank that's all. I knew that so long as it wasn't plugged into the mains it would be alright! Bob looks unsure Bob - Hmmm...I hope this is true Anderton, I do not tolerate murder attempts on other inmates Katie - Course not, I quite understand that. Must be difficult dealing with criminals all the time...not to mention the types who are ''helping'' you Katie glances at Vera Bob - In any case, it was a foolish prank, I expect better from grown women. I will however let you off with a warning this time, but any more pranks like that and you will be paying a visit to solitary!
Abigail is with Bob in the office Abigail - So I want to work in the Restaurant Bob - I see and what brought that on? Abigail - I would love to train as a chef Sir! Bob - But you did not show even the faintest interest before Abigail - A gal can change her mind, can't she? Bob - I suppose so... Abigail - So can I work there or not? Bob looks thoughtful He eventually answers Bob - I've decided to give you the benefit of the doubt, I can give you a trial run, and see how you get on. But the first sign that you are there to cause trouble or not taking it entirely seriously and you will be out of there Freestone Abigail - Yes Sir I understand! I will not mess up this opportunity I swear, I cannot wait to get stuck in Bob - I hope you can work alongside Cartwright and Anderton without too much trouble. Abigail - Yes, I can certainly give it a go Bob - In that case, you can start tomorrow Abigail looks smug...
.....Some moments later Abigail is on her way back to her cell as she turns a corner and finds Marina waiting Abigail jumps with fright Abigail - Miss, you scared me! Marina smirks Marina - Good! Now tell me, did you see Moran as I asked you to? Abigail - Yes Miss I did Marina - And? Abigail - I will be working in the Restaurant, starting tomorrow Marina is delighted Marina - Excellent! We'll soon start putting some plans into action to get that place shut down!
Judy is alone in her cell when Janice arrives in the doorway Janice- Hello Bryant Judy - Oh hi Miss Raymond..... Janice - I'm not Miss Raymond anymore Bryant Judy - Oh yeah sorry...erm sorry I mean Mrs Clements... how was your honeymoon? Janice - It was great thanks Judy - That's nice to hear Janice - Look Bryant, there is something I want to tell you, but you have to promise me not to ever say anything to anyone else, you must keep it a secret ok? Judy - Yeah sure, what is it? Janice looks very unsure Janice - I mean it, a total secret. You cannot say anything to Lorna or Sasha or anyone ever Judy - Mrs Clements I swear I won't Janice - Ok, well I saw Smith in London. She is living there with Chloe. They are happy and settled. Smith has a job and Chloe goes to school and they have their own little flat Judy looks delighted Janice - I wanted to tell you because I know how close you were to Smith and I thought you'd want to know Judy - Yes thanks, Miss! It's great news, I knew they were going to make it ok Janice- But I am sure you can see how important it is that we keep this between ourselves, Bryant? Judy --Yes of course I do, there is no way I would share this with anyone else
Exterior shot of the Wentworth Restaurant in daytime Sasha and Katie are already hard at work when Bob arrives with Abigail Bob - Ladies, Freestone will be joining you here Katie and Sasha look shocked and not very happy at all, while Abigail looks smug Bob - I hope you can all work in harmony together...
...Abigail, Katie, and Sasha are now alone in the kitchen Sasha approaches Abigail, who is busy peeling potatoes Sasha - Alright Freestone, what's your game? Abigail - I'm peeling potatoes... Sasha - Don't be funny with me, you know damn well what I mean. Why did you suddenly decide you wanted to work here when you had never shown any interest before? Abigail shrugs Abigail - I fancied a change that's all, the laundry and the workshop get boring after a while. Anyway who knows, I may find out I am a talented cook, mightn't I? Sasha - I don't buy any of it, I am convinced you are here to cause trouble and nothing else! Abigail plays the innocence Abigail - oh gee Sash, whatever could I do to convince you I'm not here to cause trouble? Sasha - Nothing, I know you far too well by now Katie - Come on Sash, let's get on with the work now. We don't want to get into trouble for slacking off just because of her Sasha - You're right. But I will be keeping my eyes on you, Freestone! Sasha returns to work Abigail looks at Katie with a grin Abigail- G'day Kate love, got any toasters hidden in your bra today? Katie gives Abigail a filthy look and returns to her work washing dishes in the sink A smirking Abigail plugs a toaster into a socket nearby while Katie isn't looking and switches it on Abigail - This is what happens when it's actually PLUGGED in Katie! Abigail takes Katie by complete surprise and throws the toaster into the washing-up water, delivering to Katie a massive electric shock and killing her instantly Sasha was standing nearby at the time and screams in horror Abigail laughs wickedly Abigail -OH I'M A VERY BAD GAL AIN'T I!
Later a remorseless and cocky Abigail is shown in to see Bob, by Marina Bob looks extremely grave Bob - Alright Freestone. tell me why you killed her. Abigail - Well she tried to kill me so I decided to put a stop to any further attempts, a full stop Bob - If you mean the shower block incident, Anderton assured me that it was merely a prank. She knew she couldn't kill anyone with a toaster that had no electricity running through it Abigail - If you believe that then you're a fool. Anderton was intending to kill me but failed miserably. She would have tried again if I hadn't put a permanent stop to it Abigail looks rather smug Abigail - It just happens that I had enough sense to plug my toaster into the electricity first and she didn't! Bob - Well I've heard enough, it's obvious why you asked to go to the Restaurant now. Well as of now you're out of there, back to the laundry Marina is standing in the background seething with rage Abigail - I can live with that Bob - If Blackmoor was still around you'd be getting shipped off there now Abigail - No doubt I would yes Bob - However no need to look so smug. Once the super-prison opens here you will be going to our special high-security wing, where we will be putting the most dangerous inmates! Abigail looks like she can barely care less Abigail - Oooh will I really! How exciting for me! Bob turns to Marina Bob - Take her up to Solitary Marina - Yes Mr Moran...come on Freestone Marina leads Abigail out of the office Abigail - Until the next time than Mr Moran... Marina - Just keep your mouth shut if you can Freestone!
GATESLAM PART 4
Abigail is sitting in her solitary cell when Bob enters the cell alone Abigail Mr Moran, what a surprise! Bob - I wanted to talk to you, Freestone Abigail - What about? Bob - Why did you Kill Anderton? Abigail - You know why I told you before! She tried to kill me first Bob - But if you were worried she was after you you should have come to us about it, we're here to protect you Abigail - Killing her was more fun, I enjoyed myself Bob - But now you are going to get a life sentence for it Abigail shrugs Abigail - Why should that matter? I have nothing to go back out for now anyway, plus I will die from AID's soon enough Bob - You know full well that you don't have AIDS... Abigail - Not yet no, but it's only a matter of time... Bob - You are such a negative individual Freestone, just being around you fills me with a bad vibe Abigail - Negativity overcame me as soon as I realized what a pointless, miserable sack of shit life really is Bob - But your negativity will rub off on others, I know it really bothers me anyway Abigail - Stay away from me then... Bob - Bit hard when I'm the governor, it's my job to communicate with all the prisoners as and when I need to Abigail - But why are you here now? Right now I am happy to be left alone Bob - You are a murderer now, you will be one of the lifers officially once sentenced. I have to pay special attention to my lifers, they are the ones who are here for a long time after all. Short-termers require less attention and care, they are in and out, and as long as they keep their heads down they get out when they are supposed to. They know they aren't here long, so they have the incentive to behave. Long-termers, and especially lifers, have a much more ''nothing to lose'' and careless type of attitude Abigail - I can cope if that's what you're worried about Bob - I want to know if you plan to be disruptive here in the years ahead. Abigail shrugs Abigail - I dunno, I never think about the future too much. It all seems so bleak so I try and block it out as much as I can. I hate life and I hate people, I hate everything, and it's all so pointless anyway Bob - What made you so angry, negative, and hateful Abigail? I want to know, I want to understand Abigail gives a bitter chuckle Abigail - Like you really care! Bob - But I do, I really do. I want to know more about why you're like this, it has to be for a reason. People don't become like this for no reason Abigail - No one else has ever cared or asked me until now Bob - Well I'm asking now, there is always a first time for everything Abigail - And what you want to know more than anything else is why I hate men so much right? Bob - Well yes, I cannot deny that I have been curious about that. I figure you didn't wake up one day and randomly decide you hated men enough to infect 30 of them with HIV, there has to be a reason behind it Abigail - Of course, there's a reason! Bob - If you're happy to tell me a bit more about it then I am happy to listen Abigail pauses for a moment and then begins to speak Abigail - I was gang-raped, a pack of them. Young men in their late teens and early 20s. Before that I never had a problem with men, in fact, I actually preferred the company of men over women if you can believe that. Women always seemed so bitchy and boring, young men were wilder, more adventurous, and just a lot more fun to be around. One thing I can say about Alpha males is life is never boring when you're around a group of them together, all the banter and pranks and beer! I was even the only female player on an otherwise all-male footie team at one time, I loved it Bob - What happened? Abigail- When I was gang-raped? Bob nods his head Abigail - I was invited to a party with a group of lads. I was the only girl there, they enjoyed having me there because they saw me as one of the lads. There were times we would joke that maybe I should have a sex change and become ''Aidan'' or something Abigail lets her guard down and gives a sad smile Abigail- They were good times, I was having fun, and I felt I belonged. I hated other young women my age. I thought that these lads were my real friends and they would be for life... Abigail pauses and looks distant, staring at nothing for a moment Abigail eventually speaks again Abigail - Anyway, back to the party. It got late and they were all drunk. very drunk. It got rowdy but I didn't mind that I'd seen it before plenty of times and I enjoyed it. A few of them flirted and tried it on so I told them to stop it, this had happened before too and I just laughed it off every time, it had always been pretty harmless and playful....but this time it was different, they were rougher and less playful, a few of them started to turn a bit nasty. I hadn't seen them like that before, they started taunting me and saying filthy things, saying I was a slut and a tease. I wasn't expecting any of this, I thought these guys were my friends you see! But turns out they weren't..... we argued and they carried on taunting me. Then a couple of them attacked me and held me down, stripped me. I tried to fight but how could I win against this bunch of strong, masculine, and very muscular guys?! So they overpowered me without much of a struggle and held me down. Then they raped me one by one Bob looks horrified and disgusted Abigail - I could tell that some of them were horrified by what was happening and didn't really want a part in it, but they were too scared to go against the more dominant members of the group, so they joined in because they were cowards, just basically cowards. A few of them even whispered ''sorry'' in my ear while they were raping me! Abigail goes quiet for a moment and starts to sob She eventually speaks again Abigail - That's how I got HIV you see? You understand now, those bastards gave it to me Bob - I'm sorry... Bob tries to comfort her but she aggressively pushes him away Abigail - I don't need comfort from you or anyone else Bob -You are clearly in distress Abigail - Now perhaps you understand why I hate males so much? I never used to, I used to have a gang of them as my mates. But after what they did to me I hated them all Bob - But surely you, must realize that not all men are like the ones who raped you? There are plenty who are good and decent and wouldn't rape someone Abigail - Maybe so, but you tell me, how are you supposed to work out which ones are the good ones and which ones are the bastards? I thought my friends were good guys until they raped me because they were good at acting it. Now I don't trust any men because of them, I can't tell who are the nice ones and who aren't Bob - I'm one of the nice ones Abigail softens for a second, smiles, and shows a softer side She speaks in a kinder, more gentle voice Abigail - I actually always thought you probably were, I just didn't want to let my guard down. But really I have been observing you long enough Mr Moran and it's obvious you're one of the good guys Bob smiles back Bob - Thank you, Freestone Abigail - Although why you want to bother with Christmas meals and new year fireworks for this pack of bastard women I'll never know Abigail gives a cheeky giggle and Bob can't help himself, he joins in They laugh together Bob - So how about you let go of some of this anger and try and get on with the others better and have a nicer time in here? Abigail - Why should I? Bob - For a start as you will be here for a lot longer now after killing Anderton. You need to find a way to make life easier for you otherwise it's going to be a long time stuck here being miserable Abigail rolls her eyes Bob - And the other thing is I do not really believe that you are as bad as you make out Abigail chuckles Abigail - Still infected all those men though didn't I and killed Katie, does a good person do those things really Mr Moran? Bob - I think maybe you got lost somewhere along the way Abigail - Yeah, I got lost after I was ganged raped Bob - But you can't keep letting that rule your life forever. I know it was a horrible thing but if you let it rule, and ruin, your life then they have won Abigail - They have won anyway because they filled me up with hatred and I never had any until they raped me Bob - So let the hatred go, find your old self again Abigail shakes her head Abigail -It's too late now, can't you see Mr Moran, all I have is anger and emptiness and hatred...the hatred is the only thing I have left I can use, there is nothing else I feel Bob sighs Bob - I'll go now, I have to do other work. I have already stayed a long time with you. Just try and think about what I said if you can. You don't have anything else to do while you're stuck in here, so you may as well think about it Bob gets up and starts to leave Abigail calls after him Abigail - But if it makes you feel any happier, I think you're alright......(cheeky smirk) alright for a man anyway Bob looks back with a slight smile and then leaves
Sasha, Martha, and Judy are in the laundry Sasha -Hey Jude its finally your parole hearing later today right? Judy - Yes right Sasha - Well good luck love Judy - Thanks love Martha looks sad about it...
....Sometime later Judy is sitting in the chairs outside Bob's office, as Bob comes out from the office Bob - The parole board will see you now Judy, good luck! Judy smiles Judy - Thanks Mr Moran! Judy walks in looking nervous Bob follows behind and closes the door behind him
Sasha and Martha are sitting in the recroom Sasha - I wonder how Jude's parole hearing is going Martha - I'm praying she gets it of course i am but i'll be sad to see her go too. I will miss her a lot Sasha - There are feelings between you both right? More than friendship? I noticed a while ago Martha - Yes. I'm scared when she goes she'll move on and forget me. I love her i don't want to lose her Sasha - She loves you too i am sure of it. You won't lose her Martha trust me Martha - How can you be so sure? Sasha - I just am ok. You won't lose her and she won't forget you when she gets out Sasha smiles and Martha smiles back Martha - I sure hope you're right Judy arrives in the Recroom in her civvies She is also carrying her suitcase along with her Judy - SURPRISE! Sasha and the others look over with delight Sasha - So you got your parole then Jude? Judy - Sure did honey! Sasha - I said you would didn't i Judy - And you were right! Sasha rushes over to hug her Sasha - I want you to get out of here and stay out. never come back you hear me? Judy - Yes love, this time I'm out of here for good. I've so sick of this place. I want to be out free with Lori and my grandson Sasha - That's the spirit! Judy - And now it's time to go and I feel sad about saying goodbye Sasha - Don't feel sad, just go and never look back Judy looks tearfully around the room at the women Judy - Well bye girls, I won't forget any of you. You will all keep a place in my heart, I love you all... Judy and Martha look at each other Martha - Keep in touch won't you? Judy - Of course i will honey you know that. I'll wait outside for you. When you get parole come i'll be waiting and in the meantime i'll write and visit every week i promise They hug emotionally Martha - I love you Jude Judy - I love you too honey
Bob is on the phone in his office Bob - Yes I see, thank you for letting me know He hangs up Vera is with him Bob - That was Eileen on the phone, following on from Ted's dismissal and death the department needs a new head of department and they have found one. Eileen is bringing her over here later tonight Vera - So it's a woman then? Bob - That's what Eileen said yes. She also said she intends to take a step back from it all and allow the head of the department to run things most of the time like it used to be years ago. The ministers themselves never took such an active role until Mr Dwyer came along Vera - Yes I always found that odd, the minister is busy with many things, and I am surprised they have time to deal with every silly little thing that the heads of departments should really be dealing with
Reception Marina is there as Eileen arrives with another woman The woman is Ann Reynolds Eileen - Evening officer Donovan, this is Mrs Reynolds my new head of department. She worked here once before as governor Marina holds out a hand - Pleased to meet you Ann - Likewise They shake Eileen - Where is Mr Moran? I know Mrs Reynolds is keen to see him Ann - Yes, we know each other you see, I can't wait to say hello
The sad, emotional, instrumental version of the theme tune is playing as Judy walks out of Wentworth to find Lori and David waiting She runs to greet them and she and Lori hug happily Lori - Here you are mum, out of that place at last Judy - Yes and this time I really am never going back Judy bends over to talk to David Judy - Hello darling how are you? David - Hey Nan, I am great! Happy to see you! Judy hugs him and laughs happily Judy - I'm free at last and this time i'm never going back in there
Janice is at the bar of a pub paying for two drinks, one appears to be a gin and tonic and the other a pint of beer Janice (to barman) - Ta love She takes the drinks and heads over to a booth. She sits down and passes the beer over to a mysterious person sitting opposite her. She takes a sip of her drink Janice - It was good of you to come and meet me, Fred Eileen's man Freddie is sitting opposite Freddie - Well I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not, Eileen would be angry with me if she knew I had come to see you Janice - I just want a little chat that's all, no need to worry Fred Freddie - A chat about what? I can't think of what we two have to chat to each other about Janice takes another sip of her drink Janice - I want you to tell me all about what happened to Ted, and I mean all of it, every last detail Freddie - I don't know anything... Janice - Oh yes you do, and I want to know all of it. I know my mother paid you to kill him Freddie - Keep dreaming, I ain't telling you a thing Janice - You will Fred because you see I am going to pay you well. I know how much money talks to you, name your price and you've got it Freddie - But Eileen will kill me! Janice grins Janice - Don't be silly, by the time I'm done she'll be behind bars for the rest of her life, she won't get near you or anyone else again then. Now, spill the beans, Fred.....
