Chapter 22: Old Rival

Start from the beginning

"I want to be a puppeteer who controls everyone with strings. Controlling my father has also been an aspiration of mine." He explained.

I sweat dropped. "You really haven't changed at all..."

I asked, "And how are things with Karma?" Asano-kun is also in Kunugigaoka, along with his 4 friends. "I'm guessing you guys are still fighting for the top spots?"

He looked at me, "Ah, that ornery red head? He's been causing chaos in the school." He closed his eyes. "But I suppose he is still a worthy rival."

Karma... What has he been up to?

"If he causes any more trouble, you can tell me." I thought about him. "I'll lecture him after that." I smiled.

"Once I eliminate him, his name will fade into oblivion." He said. "But his actions always seem so baffling."

He looked at me, "Ah, I've been meaning to ask this," He said. "Tell me about that teacher they call a monster. 'Korosensei', am I correct?"

"Korosensei?" I looked at him. "He was always a weird one. But he was a great teacher."

"So 3-E was assigned to assassinate him?" He asked.

"That's right. We were really surprised when Karasuma-sensei came in the room with him." I started. "We were told to keep it a secret. He wears weird disguises in public or when he's around students other than 3-E."

"I thought that he was a bit off." He answered. "How exactly fast was he?"

"He can travel up to mach 20. At first, we thought it was impossible." I said. "But Karma was the first one to ever to hurt him."

He said, "That's no surprise, considering his trickery behavior."

"We were trained during PE, using special knives and guns." I explained. "But when we were close to actually killing him, it always turned out that he had a trick up his sleeve."

Asano-kun hummed in response. "I suppose the job wouldn't be easy even if I was with you whole lot."

He then looked at me and said, "Don't get the wrong idea. I would never be a lowlife, I will always be on top."

I sweat dropped, "Right..."

I heard vibration from his pocket. He grabbed his phone out and looked at it. He started typing for a few seconds. His eyes were different a few seconds there.

He then put the phone back in his pocket. "Pardon me." He drank his coffee.

"No, it's fine." I know it's not my business, but curiosity got the best of me. "Who was that?"

He looked at me, "Just someone." He put the cup back on the table.

I was filled with silence for a few seconds before saying, "Could it be your girlfriend?"

He looked at me with surprise. He was trying not to show it. "Indeed. I am quite impressed you were right."

"Your expression softened."

He went quiet. "Is that so?"

"What can you tell me about her?" I asked him.

He thought about it. "She is quite suave."

I said, "Really? What's her name?"

His eyes peered at me. "Yhan."

I smiled, "What's she like?"

"She is different from other girls. I like her." He blushed a bit, trying to hide it.

I smiled at him. "Is that so? She sounds lovely. But wouldn't she get angry if you go out with another girl?"

His eyes narrowed a bit. "She does get a tad bit upset. But she'll understand."

Asano Gakushuu has a girlfriend? Wow, who would've guessed?

"Well, tell her I said hi." I told him.

"Well, I suppose I could the next time I see her." He replied, resting his head back on his hand.

We continued chatting while drinking our coffee.

Asano-kun is the same as ever. His pride is still up there, and he uses words that I don't understand sometimes. His personality is still the same, looking down on people who are less smart than him and wanting to manipulate others.

But I know that he has a nice side of him somewhere.

"It's getting late." I looked out the big window to see an orange colored sky.

"Then we can wrap this chat session up, I suppose." He stood up.

"How much is the coffee?" I asked.

"No, I will pay for it." He said as he walked to the cashier.

I stood up, "Ah, no, it's fine. I'll pay for mine."

He turned to look at me. "A king is good and kind to his subjects."

I looked at him, quiet. I then smiled, "Alright."

He then payed for both our coffees, and we walked out. The bell made a jingle noise as we went out the door.

"Thanks, Asano-kun." I said to him.

"No need to be grateful." He replied.

I smiled, "Because that's what a king does?"

He looked at me. A smirk appeared on his face. "That's right."

"Ah, Asano-kun," I said. "Don't tell Karma, he might get angry at you."

He scoffed, "That barbaric guy? I can take care of him easily." He continued, "Maybe I'll say it to that guy just to annoy him." He smirked.

I sweat dropped. "O-okay..."

"This is where we part ways. I suppose you're not as bad as the other lowlifes."

"Er... thanks?"

He started walking in the other direction, "I had a decent time. See you next time, Shiota-san, wherever we meet."

"Yeah."

I started walking back home with my book.

Today, I met Asano-kun. Even though we were old rivals, it seems like he's willing to open up just a little.

Well, he still thinks highly of himself. But I know he has an opening somewhere.
