out of annoyance, Jace handed him the stone. Magnus took over the necklace with care and inspected it carefully. "amor verus amquan moritur," he spoke. "true love cannot die. oh, how I've missed this jewel." Magnus sighed.

"now that you've gotten what you've wanted, it's time to pay up," Isabelle reminded. Magnus kept the jewel in his pocket and frowned.

"I wish I could retrieve your memory, Clarissa. but I no longer have them; fed it to a memory demon for safe-keeping."

Jace's eyes widened and Clary's jaw dropped.

"what? why would you do that?" she questioned.

"to protect you and the Cup. if Valentine ever captured me, he could torture Clary's memories out of me. just like he tortured Dot. and Clary, Dorothy is dead. I can't feel her magic anymore," Magnus sighed, the tip of his eyebrows furrowing together.

Clary gasped. "oh my god.."

Jace placed a hand on her back and gently patted it.

purple magic shot out from Magnus' fingertips and he created a portal. "come with me, Clary. my lair can offer you protection no Shadowhunter could," Magnus offered, holding out his hand.

"no, I'm not going anywhere with you. I won't hide from my problems and neither should you," she answered.

"Magnus! look out!" a female voice shouted out. Magnus groaned and he ran into the portal, leaving Clary behind. other warlocks ran into it, and before Clary could react, it disappeared.

Damon and Alec strolled through the empty streets as their fingers are still interlaced together, and neither of them seemed to mind. "you alright?" Alec asked, his thumb brushing over Damon's knuckle. Damon smiled softly and nodded, his eyes still red.

"thank you. for everything you did back there." he thanked, making Alec simper. Alec's cheeks were in a shade of light, baby pink, and Damon couldn't deny the fact that he just wanted to kiss it every day, feel the warmth of Alec's cheeks against his lips.

and so that's what he did.

he leant closer to the shadowhunter and gently kissed his skin, staying still. Alec was surprised at his move as his breathing pattern fastened, and the heat of his cheeks became stronger and warmer. Damon did not lean back; he stayed there, his lips against the taller one's cheek.

the contact between the shadowhunter's heated cheeks and the half demon's cold lips sent a shiver down Alec's spine. "this one's for making sure I didn't kill that warlock back there," he chuckled. Alec laughed softly with him as they continued to walk down the street that leads back to the club.

"somehow, you calmed me down like no one could. the last time I was this angry, I set a house on fire," he laughed. Alec looked at him stunned, amused.

"you can shoot fire out of your fingers?" Alec asked, his jaw dropping a little. Damon laughed as he shook his head.

"who do you think I am? Emma Bloom?" he joked. Alec looked at him puzzledly. "who is that?" Alec asked.

Damon ignored his question and continued walking, his fingers wrapped around Alec's palm tightly. Alec loved the feeling of Damon's warmthless fingers on his skin, and the thought of his heat warming up Damon was what he loved the most.

his thoughts were interrupted by a loud screech and a scream. Damon instantly looked over and ran alongside with Alec, who had his bow and arrows ready. the demon took his katana out from the holder as it glowed with red lights and magic surrounding it. he held it out and ran.

a shadowhunter was attacking a child warlock. and it wasn't just any shadowhunter; he had a circle rune marked on his skin. his hands were wrapped around the toddler's neck, and the sight of the Nephilim torturing a help toddler angered Damon and he charged towards the shadowhunter. Alec aimed his arrow at the Shadowhunter, ready to release it.

Damon aimed for the Circle member's chest, and when he was about to slash it, the shadowhunter let go of the child and knocked the demon's hand away, causing the katana to fall out of his hand.

the grey-eyed threw a punch in the man's face and grabbed his neck, then threw him against the wall. Damon picked his katana up and slid the blade across the man's neck. blood splattered out of his neck, staining Damon's white sneakers.

and then Damon jumped back, dropping his blade on the floor.

the shadowhunter's eye glowed red as blood flowed down his skin from his eyes, making Damon gasp in shock and crumble to the floor.

"what is it, Junèthen?" Alec asked, rushing over to the demon's side.

by the time he was there, the man's skin had been burnt away, portion by portion, leaving only his flesh and organs visible to them.

-

"great. now we have a skinless man who was trying to kill a warlock child lying in the middle of the street and Magnus Bane running away with the necklace and little girl's memories?" Alec snapped angrily.

Clary bit the inside of her cheek and Jace pressed his lips together as Alec chided. "her name is Clary and I highly suggest you keep your voice down. and the man lying in the street is killed by Damon or Junèthen, just for your information," he defended. Damon didn't look up even though he heard his name.

he stood up and leant against the wall, his face cold and without emotions.

"it is not his fault, Jace, and I highly suggest that you should understand the fact that Damon risked his safety for a warlock child, and at least he saved her. we've risked our lives over and over again for the girl's memories, and it got us nowhere near the mortal cup."

"since when did you start caring so much for that demon?" Jace taunted. Isabelle's eyes widened at Jace as she listened to Alec cracked his knuckles, an act he carries out when he's displeased.

Clary groaned and cried out loud in frustration as she pulled her hair. "great, we're never going to find him and get my memories back!" she laughed.

the blonde took out a button from his pocket and inspected it, holding it in his palms. "you give up too easily," he said. he cupped the button with both his hands and shut his eyes closed. "this is Magnus' button. but I can't track him down, he must be blocking it."

Jace looked over at Alec and nudged his head, signalling Alec to come over. the brunette exhaled and held his hand out, Jace holding it after, the button between their palms.

"let's do this," he whispered.
