I said childlike.

“I dunno.”

She sighed, looking away.

“That’s odd. He’s usually following you like a lost puppy.”

I say, laughing picturing him in my head as a dog.

“I don’t think so.”

She said in a sad tone.

“Oh whatever Maddy! You’re a dude magnet.”

I giggle at my use of words.

“Thanks.”

She said, smiling her award-winning smile.

“No problem, it’s true.”

I said, dismissing the thanks.

I scanned the area around us. There were run down looking buildings, something from the old west movies.

“That’s odd, last night it looked as if the whole town was up, now it looks like there’s not a single soul.”

I said, looking skeptically around us.

“Hmmm, maybe they all left.”

She said, knowing that was highly unlikely.

“Yeah, they were running from your face.”

I teased.

“Yeah, they’re jealous of this beauty.”

She gestures to her face.

“Let’s look for the guys.”

I suggest, splitting off in an opposite direction from Madeline.

“Yell if you need anything. Crap! Miles has my gun!”

I groan in annoyance. Where are boys when ya need them?!

“Haha okay miss cow girl gunman.”

Madeline yells over her shoulder at me.

I started to walk. I was weaving in between buildings and going back and forth.

“Miles!”

I called out, looking everywhere.

“Miles…”

I lowered my voice, hearing footsteps behind me.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”

A high pitched scream caused me to jump. I immediately recognized the scream as Madeline's.

“Madeline!”

I screamed back, hoping she just saw a spider or a snake or something.

“HELP!”

Her shriek caused me to spin around. I stopped dead in my tracks when a man was just standing in front of me, staring at me.

I backed away slowly. I saw blood dripping from his hands, dark red blood.

“Madeline! Miles!”

I scream turning to run.

“I don’t think so.”

The man’s voice is raspy and it sounds like he smokes five packs a day.

I felt I slight sting on my neck. I attempt to lift my arm to discover what hit the side of my neck was.

My legs went limp and I fell to the dirt ground.

My muscles wouldn’t move, trust me I tried. I begged my brain to make my body move. I lay there, struggling on the ground, hearing footsteps approach me.
