I. The Winter Soldier

"Captain, we found it." A manly voice said from behind Keira, and she turned as Captain America walked past her, reaching the man who had just talked. She didn't necessarily admire the man, but she couldn't deny that his backstory was fascinating, as well as depressing. Without even trying, she could sense by every single movement he made that he suffered every second of every day, the pain never leaving his side as he had probably learnt to live with it as if it was an old friend.

It was one of those little moments when Keira felt bad about shutting down her powers, but she quickly reminded herself of the reason why she did, and the balance in her head was immediately restored.

Steve Rogers quickly nodded his head to the two guards, who placed a small plastic card on the apparently immaculate wood, and a door on the wooden pavement suddenly opened, making everyone move back. One of them checked the inside before letting everyone in, Steve Rogers being the first, Keira the last.

She quickly climbed down the ladder and her feet were met with a smooth, metal pavement, very different to the one in the cabin. She looked around herself for a mere second before realizing they were finally in the Hydra base they had been searching for months.

"Rodriguez, Martin, Black, go to the right. Ramirez, Jones, follow me." Captain America ordered, and Keira quickly followed him, the gun strongly held in her hands as she made sure nothing went past her vision.

They walked for what seemed like an endless path, meeting only a few guards that were quickly taken down by Rogers' shield, before they reached a hallway that sent shivers down Keira's spine.

The walls were more rusted than the others, and the smell coming from there made June's face scrunch in disgust. The lights were going on and off, and Keira surprisingly knew who those cages belonged to even before she spotted the old sign reading spies.

She walked slowly through the hallway, checking the cell numbers and mentally reminding herself of the one she was looking for, making sure she was putting enough distance between herself and the other two.

When she finally spotted the cell she was looking for, she waited for Steve Rogers and the other guard to walk past the corner, barely realizing she had disappeared, before she started forcing the metal door open.

She tried with everything she could, but the only thing that started denting the lock was her gun. She used four bullets, before the lock fell to the ground and she could open the door, trying to breathe from her mouth as soon as the stinking smell reached her nose.

Keira adjusted her sight to the darkness of the room, using her hands as a guidance as she tried to find the owner of that cell.

Before she could even process it, a hard blow hit her right on the chest and made her fall backwards, her head painfully hitting the ground as she dropped the gun she was holding. After the hit, two hands reached for her neck and started crushing it, making her see stars.

"Think you're smart, huh? I've got you now, and if you don't do what I tell you I'm going to kill you!"

The familiarity of that voice made Keira almost start crying, but she tried to keep herself calm as she placed her hands on the attacker's, softly squeezing them.

"Rick, it's me. It's Keira, your sister." She tried to say, though her throat was being so crushed she feared she couldn't even be heard anymore. But she did, apparently, because the grip on her neck slowly loosened, until it completely disappeared and allowed Keira to take big gulps of air, massaging the sore skin.

"Keira?" Rick said with a broken voice, his features still hidden in the darkness. Keira searched for his hands and squeezed it tightly, sighing in relief when he held it back.

"Come on, you'll have time to feel bad later, now I have to get you out of here." She said, slightly pushing him forward as she made her way to the exit of the room. But a sudden darkness covered even the small light coming from outside when a massive figure stopped in front of them, not giving them any chance of escaping.

Keira tried her best to figure out the man's features, her sight immediately spotting a hint of metal covering his entire left arm, before she was shoved to the side, her head once again hitting the cold pavement as she groaned loudly.

"Keira!" Rick exclaimed before he was punched in the stomach, doubling himself over as he squeezed his eyes shut.

Keira started frantically searching for her gun, but it all disappeared when she noticed the muscular man crushing Rick's throat with his metal arm. Before she could even plan an attack, she launched herself at the man, wrapping arms and legs around him as she tried to push him away from Rick. It wasn't really how she had been trained by SHIELD, but it was the best she could come up with in such a short amount time.

It surprisingly worked, because the man stumbled back a little, groaning with impatience as he moved his arms backwards to try and get a grip on Keira. When he realized it was impossible, he moved backwards until Keira's back painfully hit the wall and the grip on the man loosened as she slid down.

She watched sadly as the man made its way once again towards Rick, but before he could try and get a hold of him, a red and blue shield came flying into the room and hit the man in the head, making him loudly fall on the ground. Keira turned her head on the left, a sigh of relief escaping her lips as she spotted Captain America making its way to the room. He seemed utterly pissed, his face boiling with anger and his hands tightly held into fists, but it all faded away when he noticed who he had actually taken down. It didn't take long for Keira to put two and two together, and realize who the man that had attacked them actually was.

It was the Winter Soldier.
