Vanessa has lucid dreams about her fiance almost every night. But after he cheated on her, she moved on with a boyfriend and her daughter.
But his presence is still in her heart and won't dissappear, no matter how hard she tries.
Will she ever be...
"I'll be in my office if you need me," says Noah. Vanessa nods nicely before he winks at her and leaves.
"Just ignore him," Vanessa hears, coming from the other side of her cubicle wall. She scoots her rolly chair towards her colleague Amanda's cubicle.
"How though? He's my boss, I see him so much," says Vanessa. "Besides, I'm used to it, it's been happening for about six months now."
"Yeah," says another of her colleagues, Rebecca. "He did that to me for a month or so, I just flipped him off, and now he never bothers to come to me, not even for work," she says. They all laugh.
"I don't know Mandy, I honestly don't. I feel like this isn't a business trip anymore, he's been gone for about five months now," answers Vanessa.
"Does Annika miss him?" asks Rebecca.
"Yeah, she asks me every night about when he'll be back. I always answer with 'he'll be back soon', but I'm doubting he will. He hasn't answered my texts, and it's been about a week since I've had any contact with him."
Rebecca and Amanda both look at each other, clueless on what to say.
"He'll be back, maybe he's just busy with work," says Amanda, trying to encourage her. Vanessa smiles.
"I hope," she says. "Better get back to work before Noah comes and flirts with me," says Vanessa. They all laugh as Vanessa scoots her chair back to her cubicle.
*** Vanessa and Annika are sitting on the living room couch, rewatching Frozen for about the hundredth time.
Vanessa looks over at Annika. She looks just like her father, hazel eyes, sharp jawline, slightly tan skin. If it wasn't for her straight long dark brown hair and deep dimples from Vanessa, she would've looked like an identical copy of him.
The song "Do You Want to Build A Snowman" comes on and they both sing with Anna, looking at each other while they sing.
Annika's voice, even at this young age, is beautiful, just like Vanessa's.
Their singing was interrupted by Vanessa's phone going off.
The phone screen showed "Baby" was calling.
"I'll be right back Annika," says Vanessa, standing up and leaving the living room to the kitchen.
"Vanessa..." I hear him say. His deep voice was filled with worry.
"Yeah, babe?"
"You have to do something for me Nessa..."
"What is it?" Vanessa asks very worriedly.
"Just answer the fucking door babe, I've been waiting out here for like five minutes now and it's very cold," he says. She laughs, her heartbeat going back to normal, knowing it's nothing serious.
"You're a great actor, you know that?" Vanessa says.
"I know," he says. Vanessa can just imagine him giving his signature smirk. "Just unlock the door and I'll come in a few minutes, I want to surprise Annika," he says.
"Okay, see ya!" says Vanessa as she tiptoes to the front door and unlocks it. She heads back and sits down beside Annika.
"Who was it Mommy?" she asks.
"Nobody, wrong number," answers Vanessa. Annika nods before focusing back on her favorite movie.
A couple seconds later, Vanessa hears the front door open. She looks over at Annika, who thankfully didn't notice, being too focused on watching the movie.
She sees a black figure tiptoeing, coming closer to the living room. Annika is still looking straight at the TV, the song "Let It Go" about to play.
Vanessa sees him walking slowly, getting closer, close enough to where he covers Annika's eyes without her noticing.
"Guess who I am," he says. Annika smiles.
"Daddy?" she asks. Vanessa runs and gets the lights before he uncovers her eyes.
"Yes, your Daddy's back!" he yells. Annika looks at him in shock, about to cry. She jumps, landing in his arms as she sobs on his shoulder.
"I missed you, daddy," she says as she cries. He starts to cry as well.
"I missed you too baby," he says. He wipes Annika's tears as they both look into each other's eyes.
Vanessa looks at him as he gives her his signature smirk, taking his eyes off of Annika.
He sets her down on the coach before walking to Vanessa and giving her a passionate kiss. As they separate, he gives Vanessa yet another smirk.
"Daddy's back!" he says to Vanessa. She laughs as she slaps his chest playfully.
"Oh shut up Kaden."
