Chapter 1: Departure x Friends x Hunter Exam

"That's great. Nice meeting ya! I gotta go!" and ran away from him before my identity runs to him.

45 minutes left, and I felt hungry. So I just ate and that took my time. By the time I got the bill, 5 minutes were left. By that time, too, I forgot all about my first objective to kill the hour, which was to get souvenirs. I laughed and ran towards the ship where 'rough and tough' people are boarding.

Now boarding, I had nothing to do. I stayed put because I might have flipped the ship due to my sword. Or worse, we might sink. On the ship I found Gon, had a little chat and stared out to the horizon. Later he started acting weird and watched a bunch of seagulls flying around the ship. He told me that a storm was coming and that it would be a huge one. He wanted me to come with him in informing the captain, and being the stubborn self he is, I didn't budge and stayed in my spot.

Amazingly, he was telling the truth, clouds started forming a gray sky and just right in front of us looked like a deadly typhoon. My impression of him then changed to a better one. Thinking that he is a clever and a commendable kid after all.

Next, a huge wave was coming to smash us into smithereens. Sad life, I thought. But no weak wave could just kill me or something, that would call me weak. And if that wave could kill me, I would then have no right to take the exam in the first place. I just held a pillar with one hand and let the wave smash us. The ship rocked violently, sending some people flying out of the ship, but I just held the pillar and stepped on my sword so that it wont rock the ship even more.

After the wave, a hand touched my shoulder, which made me jump back because I hate skinship. The one who touched me looked like the captain since he had a red nose and wore what captains usually wear.

"I'm the captain, mind if we talk for a while?" he seemed harmless. Plus if he had some plan upon his sleeve, he won't stand a chance against me. So I nodded, placed my sword and sweater down (it had weights too), revealing not a shirt but a bandaged chest. He obviously asked what happened to my chest, and obviously I would not want to tell him the reason. It would be awkward.

The truth is I hate bras. I find them uncomfortable and if ever I am in a battle the strap might get out and it would be embarrassing. So I just bandaged my chest to make a form so that I don't have to wear bras. Plus, I'm flat chested so it isn't a big deal to bandage my breasts. I told him that I had an accident with training once.

We went to the operating room where the captain controls the ship as it sails away.

"If by any chance... are you Renzoku Satsujin-han?" he asked me and at that time, I got surprised. Like, how did he know? Does he know me? Does he secretly observe me? All sorts of questions ran in my head.

I had to lie. That was the only way to keep my identity and avoid misfortune. Plus, I don't want more and more people to hate me! I wasn't who I was before! And so I replied:

"No, sir. I am Kuroshi. People say I look like her, though I am not." With straight eyes at him, it looked as though I wasn't lying. I'm an expert on lying, through all the years of experimenting with my mom on how to lie, I got the hang of it.

"Are you sure? Surely I'm not mistaken." he sounded suspicious, but I kept my cool, if in any tiny way I look nervous or some emotion got out, it's game over for lying.

"I am not Renzoku Satsujin-han, sir." I said it blankly, and he finally nodded. Though I am not yet convinced that he believed that I wasn't myself, I just left the thought behind and acted as though he did believe me.

After that, he started asking nonessential questions. As he finished, I bowed down in respect and went out to gather my stuff if it was still OK. Plus, no body could ever carry such stuff of mine as it weighs more than they could imagine. By the time I arrived, I saw Gon and two other men I haven't met. One with blonde hair and one with a tuxedo. And I'm pretty sure you know these guys.

I greeted Gon, out of the ordinary, sounding uninterested. Obviously he got concerned, thinking I have gone through some — I don't know, actually. He just asked me if I was OK like some ordinary person would ask. I just swayed my head, side to side, indicating a 'no.' At the same time, I noticed the blonde guy staring at me. I asked why? And he said that I looked familiar. When Gon saw us, he did an embarrassed smile, saying:

"Oh, right! I forgot to introduce you to her! This is Kuroshi! Kuroshi, Kurapika." he referred to the blonde guy who was still suspicious about me.

"And Leorio." Referring to the tuxedo guy.

"Nice meeting you, Kurapika and Leorio!"

As we have reached the dock, the captain told me to go to the place on top of the mountain where on top you will find a tree. I thanked him, and went off. But, I was stopped by Kurapika, I guess he finally knew who I was, just as the captain did. Even if I lie, it seems as though they won't believe me.

"Are you, Shinda, Renzoku Satsujin-han?"

"Oh well, fine. You got me, blondie! I am Shinda, Renzoku Satsujin-han. You could now tell the whole world if you please, but I have no bad intentions and I swear." I smiled, hoping I sound convincing that I came with good intentions.

"Why are you taking the Hunter Exam?" he asked, curiously. But that curiosity was more than one of a child. Well, he obviously ain't one.

"Because I wanna become a blackmail— fuck it, blacklist hunter." and there I was with blackmail.

"Well, gotta go! See you on the Exam Site!" all I wanted to do was get away from him, I was out of the mood to be nice to him. Now I was thinking to myself, how will I get to the tree?
