Chapter 16

That feeling of knowing someone is there suddenly entered her body as skin erupted with goosebumps. She stood on the line, latching her gaze on her shoes. 

The other students filed into the gym in sync creating a line along the black. 

"Rey!" 

Her gaze on the floor was torn away and her attention was brought to Poe who was running towards her. "What happened? What did he do?"

"Nothing nothing he just, um, went into his office." Rey faltered. Poe pulled himself back, appalled that he hadn't tortured her with extra suicides or burpees.

"I wasn't feeling good outside so he just brought me inside. I guess the staff aren't allowed to leave us alone so he just went into his office." 

Poe puckered his lips as the wrinkles forming in between his eyebrows began to carve themselves deeper into his skin. Her lie was flawless and he knew it.

Before he could respond, out of the corner of her eye, a speck of orange. "Shut up!" Hux shouted crossing his arms behind his back as Phasma walked down the line.

The students quickly hushed as Hux glanced towards Ren who quickly threw a jacket over his shoulders. "What do any of you understand about finishing before the cut off time I give you?!"

Rey sighed, her eyes falling back to her shoes. 

"How many of them actually finished before the cut off time?"  Ren turned towards Hux. Hux smirked, "Four of them."

"Four?!" Ren stomping his foot on the wood. Rey watched in anticipation as the wood shook underneath them, waiting for it to snap in half.

"FOUR. Four goddamned students. Who were these four fucking students?" 

Rey watched as hands flew into the air. Ren walked down the line slowly, precautiously. 

"Nope," Ren snapped walking down the line. Hands slowly decreased as Ren made his way down the line. "Oh god knows you didn't finish before the cut off." 

Out stretching her fingers, Rey watched her fingers shake vigorously. She wrapped her fingers in her palm, trying to contain them but failing.

As she focused on her splotchy red fingers, her attention was now on the black shoes in front of her. 

Pulling her hand behind her back, Rey brought her head up slowly. Her eyes colliding with his. The others remained silent as his copper orbs scouring her face from her lips to the freckles scattered across her face. 

"Why aren't you raising your hand?" He asked softly.

"I-I didn't think I would count." Rey stammered. His eyes bobbing between her left and right eye  then glancing towards her arm.

"Who thinks they can tell me who THEY think worked their hardest today and actually finished before the cut off I instructed.." Ren shouts while making his way back to his spot in the middle of the gym.

"Oh god." Rey whispered, ducking her head down.

"Anyone?" Ren asks. Suddenly, down the line, a french tipped hand waving in the air. "What Carter??" Ren asked.

"Um Lieutenant Ren, I personally think that Tinsley worked the hardest out of this group." The blonde haired girl spoke.

Rey listened as Ren groaned, tossing his head back. "Don'tsayanythingthatcouldgetyoufired Don'tsayanythingthatcouldgetyoufired Don'tsayanythingthatcouldgetyoufired," Ren whispered to himself.

"Carter.."

"Yes sir?" The blonde girl fluttered her eyelashes. Rey watched as Kylo slowly made his way towards the titanium haired girl. 

"You say she, out of this whole group, has worked the hardest today?" Ren glanced towards Tinsley, her face still swollen around her lip and temple from the ass beating earlier.

"Yup." Blair wore a smug smile across her face, staring up at Ren. "If you think that she, Tinsley Miller, is the hardest working person out of MY class I might as well quit now."

Tinsley giggled, "But sir--"

"NO, save it!" Ren shouted, his eyes growing wide. "The only person who has really done some shit today is her!"

Rey threw her head up, glancing towards Ren, coming to the terrifying realization that he was pointing to her. Rey dug her head into her hands, her body physically shrinking itself to make her appear smaller.

"Now for you to tell me that Miller here is producing the best of her athletic ability is a false fucking statement."
