Start from the beginning

Me under-stand some… me English bad…

Hayyy (sigh) ok…I hope she can get this. ammm… I need a hotel, can you please help me find a hotel near this airport? nahihirapan na kong mag-Thai kaya English na.

A rai? [what?]Naguluhan ata sya dun sa sinabi ko.

Ammm.. hotel.. guest house… rented room… a place where I can sleep…Ayan, with actions pa yung statement ko para mas maintindihan nya.

Hayyy… salamat. She gave me instructions.

[can you say it again?]I still can’t get it. ammmm… Chuay pood haa chaa noi ka? [can you speak slowly?] ammm… ok ok.. just write it down. Chuay kea hai doo noi ka… [please write it down]She smiled. Hayyy… Salamat.

Khun jai dee jang! [You’re very kind!] Kob khun ka… [Thank you…]

^_^ [You’re welcome] Chock dee na! [Good luck!] NagWAI din sya sakin.

POI: Younger people and inferiors (clerks, attendants, waiters, drivers, janitors etc.) are not waid, but nodded slightly to. You will be regarded as a little foolish if you waid to them.

Oh wait…Bumalik ako. Chan Cheu George Salvatier. [I am George Salvatier]. Khun cheu a rai? [what is your name?]

Chan Cheu Ngam-Chit(good heart). ^_^ [I am Ngam-Chit]

Yin dee tee dai ruu jak! [nice to meet you!] I offered my hand to her for a shake. Nagulat sya, kaya kinuha ko yung kamay nya. Nag-shake hands kami. La korn! ^_^ (Goodbye!) Kob khun ka…nagthank you ulit ako sa kanya. Nag WAI ulit kami sa isa’t-isa. ^_^ Thais are naturally kind-hearted.

POI: Thais do not traditionally shake hand; the wai is the usual greeting.

Using Ngam-Chit’s sketch as my reference, I tried to look for a public bus that is going to Khao San Road. From there, I just need to ride a tuk-tuk that can service me to reach Banglumpoo Place. I’m not sure if Banglumpoo Place is the name of the hotel or just the name of a place.

POI: tuk-tuk is a three-wheeled car buzzing around Bangkok city on two stroke engines.

Khao San is considered to be the main street in Bangkok. If you’re looking for a place and you are not sure where it is exactly, Kao San Road is the place to start with since it is considered as the center point of Bangkok and it leads to different main locations. There are lots of tourists in here.
