"Okay so I'm going to put on the uniform and meet you in five. See ya," I waved at her and speed-walked towards the door that said 'Staff' before quickly changing into the rather decent peach colored full sleeved dress that came up to my knees and tying my brown curls into a high ponytail.
After putting all of my belongings into my allotted locker, I was ready to pull this day off.
"Can you get those three at the corner booth, I'm kinda busy with my devil friend here," Lucy grimaced as she struggled to operate the coffee machine. I let out a laugh at her pitiful situation and said, "Sure thing, Lucy. Good luck with the good ol'friend."
The hustle bustle inside the restaurant was a sight to behold and I could already tell that this was going to be a long evening. But I kept on reminding myself that I needed this job more than ever not because of a financial condition, because fortunately my Uncle's construction business had been faring well for the past few years but because I needed this kind of experience of being responsible for myself and being able to pay for myself.
I've always wanted to be an independent girl, so I guess this was the best way to start.
I made a beeline for the new customers, three young males, who looked perhaps a few years older than I was but could serve as a potential nuisance nonetheless just like my elder cousin brother Aaron because age was just a number for him which means he could act like a bratty 5 year old if he wanted to get something. And he was not even in denial.
"Hi there, I am Abigail, your waitress for the day. Welcome to Penne with a Twist. Here are the menus," I handed out three of the menus that I had tucked into my pocket on the way here and smiled at the trio, waiting for them to decide about what they wanted to have.
"Hello, Abigail. Its nice to meet you, I'm Jax. You're really gorgeous," The one with blonde hair and green eyes spoke up, raising his hand for me to take as he allowed a flirtatious half-smirk to take over his perfectly defined features, his eyes twinkling with mischievousness.
I raised one eyebrow at his extroversion, amused.
"Well, same here I guess and uh, thanks," I replied but didn't make a move to take his hand because I knew better than to lead him on. I wasn't looking for a relationship, I just wanted to concentrate on school, my friends and my family so there was no place for a certain someone at the moment. Plus, he looked like a total high school player to me.
"God, Jax just drop it why don't you?" Another guy, who was sitting next to Jax intervened visibly irritated at his friend's behavior. "What? I'm just trying to have fun and you always have to ruin it," Jax made a face at his friend who I noticed had the same pair of green eyes and possessed a striking similarity with Jax, if one were to zoom in on his facial structure and features. They could totally pass as brothers, I swear.
"Yes because you always have to start at the wrong place and the wrong time," The guy retorted, giving Jax a look that probably said 'back off or I'll make you'. Before Jax could come up with an answer, the third guy interrupted, "Hey guys, simmer it down. You're not 5 year olds remember? And Abigail," he turned towards me, his ocean blue eyes connecting with mine, a genuine smile adorning his face, "I would like to apologize on behalf of these two idiots, Jax being the bigger one,"
I almost wanted to laugh at that, like a full blown laugh but I knew better than that. Oh but I could totally notice the daggers that Jax was shooting at his blue-eyed friend, but one could tell that it was playful and that their bond went deeper than that.
"It's cool, don't worry. So um, are you ready to order?" I smiled widely.
"Yeah, I would like a mushroom risotto and what about the two of you?" the one with blue eyes and brown hair replied and I was quick to jot his order down before doing the same for Jax and his supposed brother.
