If James concentrated on the looks Somerset and the Prime Minister were sharing, he would have known something was amiss and not just Aunt Mildred being ill. He would have seen it but alas, he was still staring at the photos.
“Perhaps.” Still though, he wasn’t so convinced. Aunt Mildred looked anything but ill. But there was something with Hunter and Cassandra, he couldn’t see well if it was Hunter hanging over Cassandra or the other way around.
But, it did bring out something from the past. He remembered the photos Angelique had shown him, photos of Cassandra in Hunter’s arms.
He was jealous, his possessiveness over Cassandra was still there but there was just something in those photos that made him stop. It didn’t look so intimate or it just looked like someone aiding the other one.
When the three men left his office, he opened the drawer and took the manila envelope out. He took the photos out and settled it at his desk. It was photos of Cassandra with Hunter back then.
Damn it. He really was an idiot then.
The photos were the same, Cassandra was aiding Hunter then, nothing to suggest anything sexual or what.
Angelique had truly made a fool out of him.
Then he stared at the recent photographs. There was something different. This time, it was Hunter aiding Cassandra.
God damn it. It was Cassandra who was sick!
He rose from his seat and quickly exited his office. He needed to get to St. Mary’s. Something was wrong with his wife.
“Phillips!” he yelled, when Phillips was in view he ordered, “Get me that damn helicopter. I need to be in London.”
Just as he was leaving, he heard a car driving through the main driveway, he strode out of the house and waited out front. The car stopped, Linda got out of the car first and opened the backdoor, Aunt Mildred got out and at the other side was Hunter then he held out his hand, Cassandra was the last to exit the car with her hand tucked on Hunter’s arm.
He went to Cassandra’s side quickly, “Are you okay?” he asked.
Cassandra nodded but didn't turn to him, “I’m quite tired. Hunter if you please.” And then Hunter escorted her inside.
Something in her voice made him stop. There was sudden emptiness in her voice. There were only a few times when he heard that emptiness. Something was wrong. And he couldn’t even point out.
He started to follow them but Aunt Mildred stopped him, “Leave her be, James. She needs rest.”
He stared at her, something was really amiss. His Aunt Mildred looked solemn. No, she looked sad, like someone died. “Is she okay?”
