"Are you not going to work today Mom?" Maddie asks.
"The next function is only at one and Sandra wants us to come in at 12," Mom answers.
Sandra is her mother's boss and Maddie has only met her a few times since her Mom joined the company a few months ago. She seems sweet to Maddie but from the stories her Mom tells her, it also seems that Sandra can get quite angry and irritated with everyone when she is under a lot of stress. Maddie is just glad that her mom is finally able to have a rest from all the work and pressure she has been put under lately.
"Well that's nice, at least you get a break," Maddie says and smiles.
"And what about Dad?"
"He's not feeling too good this morning, so he has taken the day off," her mother explains.
"What you making here?" her mother asks.
"I am making breakfast for everyone," Maddie says with a grin.
"It smells delicious Mads," her mother says while getting a whiff of the bacon and eggs cooking.
When the cooking is completed, Maddie lays the bacon, eggs, toast with some onions and tomato on a plate and places it onto a tray with a glass of fruit juice. The tray resembles a mountain but Maddie knows her dad will enjoy it. Maddie’s tummy growls yet again and so she rushes up to her parents bedroom so that she can eat her breakfast as soon as possible.
"Thanks Mads," her dad says as she places the tray with delicious food onto his lap.
She gives her dad a quick kiss on the cheek and starts to walk out.
"Enjoy!" she says cheerfully as she walks down the hallway.
She joins her mom and the twins at the table for breakfast.
"Mom, Em is picking me up in about an hour to go to Wakaberry. Will the twins be okay here?" Maddie asks her mother.
"Oh, it's fine Maddie, I think I will take them to your grandparents for the rest of the day. I want your dad to be able to rest properly," her mother answers with a laugh.
"Oh okay cool. I will go visit them soon as well," Maddie says.
Maddie's grandparents are Elizabeth and Ben Harper. They live in a cottage styled house on the beach and their back yard is separated from the beach sand by a small picket fence that only reaches Maddie’s knees. Maddie loves visiting her grandparents and she tries to do so as often as possible. Whenever she goes there they treat her as if she is their own child.
After breakfast she goes to her room to get ready. She chooses a pair of jeans and a green top. While she is brushing her hair, a message from Emily comes through saying they are nearly at her house. She goes to her mom and says goodbye while giving her hug.
"Enjoy your day," her mother says.
"You too," Maddie says.
She walks out and when she gets closer to Emily's white Polo she notices two other figures in the car with Emily.
Emily and Lilly are the two that can drive out of the four girls, which has become very useful since they can go places without having to always ask their parents. She still remembers the night before Emily's driving test when Emily phoned Maddie and was freaking out because she thought that she was going to fail. Maddie had talked to her for a long time that night and was able to calm her nerves by the time they said goodnight and Emily had passed her test the first time the next morning. Maddie and Allie have their learners but Allie will have her license in about a month too and that will leave just Maddie
