"That's funny," Maddox smiled. "I never think about the girls like that."
"I mean, I don't think about it," Eli said. "But, you know, if I ever think about him when he's older I think of like high school and him wanting help with girls."
"I guess I always do imagine Hannah getting married to a guy," Maddox said. "Is that weird?"
"No, I think that's normal," Eli shrugged. "You're the expert here."
"We're in big trouble then," Maddox shook his head. Chloe was standing in front of the couch, mostly leaning on it but at least she was on her feet. She was pointing to the cheese and signing to Clay to give her some.
"I's got it, Chloe," Hannah insisted and got Chloe some cheese. She put one piece of cheese in Chloe's hand.
"Hannah," Chloe said.
"Say thank you," Maddox reminded her.
"Sanku," Chloe said.
"You're welcome," Hannah said.
"How's she doing?" Eli asked, lowering his voice.
"Good," Maddox said. "She's catching up slowly. Physically she's the right size now but obviously she's still behind in other ways. Not like Clay the Sleepless."
"If I didn't think they would take him away, I would beg his doctor for sleeping pills," Eli groaned. "Oh my word, Maddox, I had no idea how exhausting this would be."
"They won't take him away if you need sleeping pills," Maddox said.
"I mean to give to him," Eli laughed.
"Daddy?" Clay was walking around. "Daddy?"
"In here, Clay," Hunter called from the kitchen.
"Daddy!" Clay went running and fell on his face. Hannah gasped but Clay got up and kept running, like he didn't even notice.
"Wow, that's nice," Maddox said. "Some babies I know cry over everything," he pointed to Hannah so she wouldn't know he was talking about her.
"Yeah, Clay doesn't cry much," Eli agreed. "That is really nice."
"Hunter seems good with him," Maddox added, watching Hunter pick up Clay and keep cooking like it was nothing.
"He's obsessed with Hunter," Eli said. "Hunter is the best dad ever, not like me."
"You're a good dad," Maddox insisted.
"No, really," Eli said. "He never complains about anything. Not even the fact we barely get to have sex anymore."
"Really?" Maddox asked. "Exactly how long has it been?"
"Almost three weeks," Eli said. "I know we've gone longer than that but not while we're in the same house. I can't believe it."
"It's been a month since our last time," Maddox looked over at Brent.
"Are you guys okay?" Eli asked.
"We're working on it," Maddox nodded.
"You're acting all nervous around each other, like you're both trying really hard," Eli said. "I mean it's cute but it's not like you."
"It was a hard year, you know?" Maddox sighed. "We're fine, we just need to spend some time figuring everything out."
"Yeah, but he's leaving soon," Eli pointed out.
"I know, thanks," Maddox said.
"Sorry, I'm just not used to seeing you two like this," Eli said. "You've always been the perfect couple."
