I don't think I've drank this much since my 21st birthday. I must be the only single person here. Niall and I used to go to weddings together just to have a laugh, but he couldn't really be my date to his own wedding. So far this evening I hadn't left my stool. Alright, I sound like a loner. I did get up once to dance with my dad, but since then I've been sitting on my ass.
Ugh Niall and Laura looked so damn happy. Their first dance was beautiful. I'm pretty sure I started crying, but I can't completely remember. I'd already downed a few shots and a margarita at that point. I was supposed to be practicing a bit of self control so I didn't mess up my speech, but I'd already hit the point of no return, so fuck it.
Oh right..I was supposed to give a speech on Niall's behalf towards the middle of the reception. I wrote out this long and heartfelt speech of complete bullshit as to why Niall and Laura were perfect together. They weren't perfect for each other. I was meant to be up there with him exchanging vows and wearing a sparkly ring.
In the midst of my sulking, I was joined by the handsome best man. He introduced himself..Harry Styles was his name. He was even more attractive close up....or maybe that was the alcohol talking...but I didn't care. At least I wasn't alone anymore.
"Where's your date?" Harry asked me.
"He's up there with the woman in the big, white dress," I giggled. "I guess he forgot that I was supposed to be his date. Apparently best friends are forgotten on wedding days."
Harry laughed. "Oh so you're Mindy then. I've heard all about you."
"Really? How do you know Niall?" I asked.
"Frat brothers," he said. "I wasn't the first choice but Niall wanted a single best man so he asked me."
Was Niall trying to set me up with Harry? Wow, for once he'd picked a good looking guy! I was beginning to forget about Niall as we talked.
"Can I get you a drink?" He asked. "Your glass is empty. Beer? A martini?"
"I'll have whatever you're having," I responded.
"You sure you can handle that?" He said, a cheeky smirk spreading across his face.
"I'm up for the challenge," I answered.
A few minutes later he returned with 2 full bottles of Champagne. But as he was approaching, Niall tapped me on the shoulder.
"It's time for your speech, Mindy," he smiled.
I searched in my purse for the wad of paper that I'd scribbled the speech onto, snatched a bottle from Harry, and went up to the microphone. The lights went down and all eyes were on me.
