going to leave now. If you want you can call me in a few days if you’re ready to
be calm and actually talk to the both of us.” I gestured between me and Nate
before getting up to leave. Surprisingly my dad stood up and walked towards me.
He wrapped his arms around me while my mom glared at both of us.
“Brittney, I’ll always love you,” he told me, “no matter how much I’m
disappointed in you. Is it okay if I come to Nate’s house tomorrow so that can
talk some more?”
“Yes, I love you dad,” I replied.
“Here, let me give you a ride to wherever you’re going,” he offered.
“Thanks, dad,” I said heading down the stairs. I didn’t dare say anything to my
mom since she wasn’t speaking to me.
I told my dad that I wanted to go to Kate’s house.
“Who’s Kate,” he asked me.
“My friend who moved here at the beginning of the school year,” I answered,
then I gave him the directions to Kate’s house.
“Oh,” he replied. “Brittney, I’m sorry about your mom’s reaction. I don’t-”
“Dad,” I cut him off, “you’re not mom. Therefore, you don’t have to apologize
for her reactions.”
“I’m just saying,” he told me. “Your mom just never wanted this to happen to
you. Why won’t you just come home and live with us?”
“Dad, I love you, but all the fighting won’t be good for me or the baby,” I
answered.
“I know,” he sighed.
“Hey, dad, is it okay for me to do online schooling?”
“We’ll talk about that tomorrow when I come by,” he answered. “Is this Kate’s
house?”
“Yeah, thanks dad,” I said. I gave him a hug before me and Nate got out of the
car and watched him drive away.
“Come on, it’s cold out here,” Nate told me, and the we headed inside where it
was much warmer.
“Hey, guys,” Kate said as we entered her house.
“What’s up,” I asked around a yawn.
“Nothing much, you sound tired,” Kate said. She gave be a quick hug before we
headed towards the kitchen.
“I am tired, but I just told my parents,” I confessed.
“How’d they react,” she asked.
“My mom flipped out and started shouting,” I told her. “On the other hand, my
dad flipped for a second but then he surprisingly forgave me first.”
“That’s a shocker,” Kate replied. “Do you think your mom will come around?”
“I don’t know since we’ve never really been close to eath other,” I answered.
“Oh, I see,” Kate said. “At least cheer up a little bit for me.”
“Okay, I’ll try,” she laughed.
“Yay,” she cheered.
“What are we going to do,” I asked.
“Whatever you want,” she answered with a smile. “By the way, you look really
cute today.”
“Really, I don’t look fat,” I asked.
“Not at all,” she assured me. “I think you might be starting to get a tiny baby
bump, though.”
“Ugh,” I groaned.
“What’s wrong,” she asked.
“Even a tiny baby bump means that I’m starting to get fat,” I explained.
“Stop it,” Nate piped up. “Even though you’ll have a baby bump, you’ll still be
beautiful.”
“Shut up,” I told him jokingly with a laugh.
“Nope,” he smirked.
“Jeez,” I said shaking my head and laughing. “Come on, let’s all go up to Kate’s
room.”
We all agreed and headed to her room.

A little bit later we heard the doorbell ring, but none of us paid it any attention
until we heard Kate’s mom shouting at whoever it was. We all rushed down the
stairs. Kate looked confused as she walked up to her mom.
“Mom, what’s wrong,” she asked.
“Kate, is that you,” a man standing outside asked Kate.
“Mom, who is this,” Kate asked her mom worriedly.
“Kate, this is your real dad,” Kate’s mom answered, and all of our jaws dropped
in surprise.
