Chapter 8

Alexa looked at her dads concerned face then rolled her eyes, pushing her dad out of the way and entering herself. "So you don't have time for me?" She said with a slight smile on her face. Jacob's eye grew wide, "Alexa? What are you doing here?" He asked as he stood up from his chair. "I've missed you Jacob so I wanted to surprise you. I guess I should have listened to the my father when he warned me about you not being excited to see me" she said feeling a little down after seeing his face change to anger.

He rolled his eyes and took in a deep breath, "Alexa, I told you last night that I was going to come and see you tonight". He took a step towards her but she backed away from him, "ok fine, I'll go home" anger hit her and she stormed out of the room, passing her father and rushing down the stairs.

Tom looked back at Jacob and shrugged, "I did tell her but she didn't listen to me. She insisted in seeing you. I'll talk to her". "No" Jacob snapped at him, "leave her to me, you get to work" he ordered and Tom nodded, walking out with Jacob following from behind.

Rushing into the court yard, Jacob approached one of his men and asked him where Alexa had gone. "She just left sir, we insisted on taking her to where she wanted to go but she waved us off and ran out" the man explained and Jacob growled. "Bring my fucken car" he ordered the man.

Meanwhile Alexa walked down the side of the road, arms crossed around her chest and tears flowing out of hers eyes. Her mind was blank, her heart was broken, all because she wanted to see her fiancé to only be turned away by him or that's what she thought.

She continued to stroll on the side of the road when a car pulled up behind her, she didn't look to see who it was but had a fair idea that it was Jacob. She heard the car door open and close, then heard Jacob's voice calling out to her. He grabbed her arm and spun her around to face him, "I'm not angry at you for coming to see me kitten, I'd just hoped that you'd let me know first" he tried explaining to her but she wasn't having any of it. "Let go of me" she freed her arm from his grip and turned around to walk again, only to be stopped by Jacob. "Don't be like this, let's go back to the Centre and talk" Jacob insisted. "No" she yelled at him, "I've missed you like hell and thought I'd see my fiancé after a whole week, only to have my heart broken. I want to be alone Jacob. Go back and continue your whole "cull the herd" crap and leave me alone."

She finally managed to get away from Jacob, leaving him to stand in his spot as she continued to open the distance between them. A taxi was just driving past when Alexa signalled to it, the taxi stopped next to her and without looking back at Jacob, she jumped in and left.

A few hours past, Tom was sitting in Jacob's office with Jacob himself. He had tried to contact Alexa all afternoon but her phone was closed and no one could get through to her. Tom decided to call his wife and see if she had come home.

"No honey she hasn't come home yet. Did something happen?" Dianna asked over the phone. "Just give me a call when she does Dianna" Tom ordered and hung the phone up. "She isn't home yet either" Tom informed Jacob. He slammed his hands on the desk and stood up, "can you give her another call" Jacob ordered Tom and he complied.

"It's ringing" Tom excitingly got up and put the phone on loud speaker. The phone rang for a while, all Hope was lost about Alexa picking up but she eventually did. "Hey dad" her voice came through. "Alexa where are you? Do you know how worried Jacob and I have been all afternoon?" Tom became angry but couldn't raise his voice at her. "Sorry dad, I just wanted to be left alone" her voice was still soft and the tone of it sounded like she had been crying for hours.

"Where are you? Jacob's going to come and pick you up" Tom looked at Jacob who was signalling him to say that. "I'm nearly home dad, there's no need for it" Alexa informed him, "I'll see you tonight". She hung the phone up on her father and Tom looked up at Jacob again. "I'm sorry sir, my daughter has always been like this" Tom explained and Jacob waved him off.

Tom arrived home in the evening with Jacob, Dianna opened the door and greeted them both with a smile. "Is Alexa home?" Tom asked. "Yes, she's been in her room since she's come home. Her eyes were red and puffy but she didn't tell me what was wrong" Dianna informed the two men. "You don't mind if I go next to her?" Jacob asked and Dianna let him.

Alexa was sitting on her bed listening to music from her ipod, she didn't hear Jacob knock but saw him entering her room. She had an urge to jump and hug him but she was still very mad with him. She took her headphones off and placed them next to her, she continued watching Jacob walk across her room and next to her.

"How much longer are you going to be cross with me?" Jacob asked as saw her red puffy eyes like her mother had explained. "You broke my heart Jacob. I just really wanted to see you, was that so wrong?" She could feel tears filling up her eyes again and she turned her head so Jacob wouldn't see. "I just didn't want you to see the filth that I work in" Jacob put his hand on her thigh. "What filth? Jacob I know what your job is anyways, seeing it all with my own eyes wasn't going to change my mind about you. If you clearly remember, my dad works for you too" she raised an eyebrow at him.

He moved his hand off her thigh and leaned down, putting his elbows on his knees. "And those people in the cages didn't bother you?" He looked up at Alexa and she shook her head at his question, "you still want to marry me?". "Of course I do Jacob and I'll support you with everything, including your job for Eden's Gate" she smiled at him and he smiled back. "And you're not mad with me anymore?" He asked, a little chuckle came from his throat. She giggled at his question and shook her head, "not anymore I'm not".

She crawled on her knees to get closer to him, she leaned down and placed a soft kiss on his scarred cheek, "I love you Jacob" she whispered into his ear. He turned his head and placed a kiss on her lips, "I love you too kitten".

After making up, Jacob and Alexa stayed in her bedroom and watched Titanic the rest of the evening. It was a very long movie, Alexa had already fallen asleep half way, head on Jacob's chest and her arm around his waist. Jacob had his arm around her back, his hand resting on her hip and his other arm under his head. It didn't take Jacob long to fall asleep after Alexa did, he was exhausted from work but found comfort next to his fiancé.

Dianna and Tom quietly opened the bedroom door and couldn't help but smile at the sight of their daughter sleeping in the arms of her future husband. "Aren't they just perfect?" Dianna whispered to her husband and he nodded. "Indeed they are honey, let's get some sleep and not wake them up" Tom said as he closed the tv and the rooms light, before heading out with his wife.
