"What makes sense?" Dean asks, sounding just as confused as I feel.
"If someone was going to free the Word from the vault of the earth, it would end up being you three." Cas explains, setting the duffel down and removing the Chicken Scratch Rock, or as he called it, The Word. "I love you guys." He steps forwards, wrapping his arms gleefully around the three of us, or I guess as much as he could. He's not an octopus after all. Though my mind momentarily wandered to wondering if Castiel could possess a consenting octopus. Definitely a weird thought that Dean and Sam's protests brought me back from. I don't know what they were complaining about, I quite liked Cas' hug. Insane Cas or not, it was a nice hug and a nice gesture. God, I love that angel.
"Oh, okay, yeah, uh... You said something about 'The Word.'" Sam clarified, pushing away from Castiel's hug. I frowned a little, liking the contact, but was too curious about the rock to mind as much as I would otherwise. "Is that what's written on there?" Sam continued. Going completely off topic again, Cas informs us that a cat's penis is barbed and female cats were not consulted about it before turning around again to face the window, looking down at the Chicken Scratch Rock. Or as he called it, The Word. I must admit, I like the former better than the latter.
"Cas," Dean starts. "Please, we're losing ground out there, okay? We need your help. Can you not see that?"
"This is the handwriting of Metatron." Cas informs us again, this time on topic.
"Metatron?" Sam scoffs. "You saying a Transformer wrote that?"
"Sam, that...that's Megatron, not Metatron." I explain, disappointed he doesn't know that. Dean nods in agreement and points approvingly in my direction.
"What?" Sam snaps, like I'm speaking a foreign language.
"The Transformer," Dean clarifies, "It's Megatron."
"What?" Sam says again, still not understanding.
Probably tired of Sam's inability to comprehend that Megatron is the name of the Transformer, he speaks up with clarification. "Metatron, he's an angel. He's the scribe of God. He took down dictation when creation was being formed."
"And that's the Word of God?" Sam questions for further clarification.
"One of them, yes." Cas answers.
"There's more of these things?!" I exclaim, a little overwhelmed about the whole Word of God thing and this Metatron dude. "What's this one about?"
Cas turns so the moonlight and the few street lights outside the window can shine onto the rock, staring intently at it for a few moments. "Uhh... 'tree'?" He doesn't sound completely sure of himself.
"All of that just says 'tree'? Really?" I question skeptically. I mean, for all I know it does, but we have to make sure, right? Besides, why is Dick interested in a rock covered in chicken scratch that only says "tree"?
"'Horse'? 'Fiddler crab'?" Castiel goes on. "I can't read it. It wasn't meant for angels." I give Cas an incredulous look.
"Okay, this all sounds bad." Meg speaks up. "What are you jackasses doing with the Word of God?" The moment of silence is the lack of answer she uses to nod to Castiel asking to see the Chicken Scratch Rock.
"Back off, Meg." Dean says harshly.
"Come on, it's my ass, too." she argues. Dean repeats what he'd said once more. "Damn it!" Meg tries again. "Enough of this 'demons are second-class citizens' crap!"
"Don't like conflict." Cas interrupts suddenly, doing his little poof thing, the rock we all risked our lives, and Charlie's, to get falling to the floor and breaking into three pieces.
