chapter 5: Rebellion

Start from the beginning

"It was my grandfathers' " he takes a sit "please sit"

"So what did you want to talk about"

His face immediately goes dark
"Can you do magic?"

I gulp visibly but I quickly regain myself.
"Of course not, why would you even think of such a terrible thing?"

"Well my dad seems to think so, he's watching you, you know right? This is the only place he seems not to have eyes in"

I silently pray he can't hear my violent heart beats right now.
"Why would he be watching me, I mean there are over 500 other girls in this town"

"There's been an uprising in other towns, this and two others are practically the only ones without a magic uprising among about sixty and my dad plans to keep it that way"

"Why me though?" I'm still confused, over a million thoughts are going through my head right now.

"Your grandmother had magic coupled with the fact that he caught you entering the dark woods last week."

A chill passes through my spine
"So why are you telling me all these?"

"Because I want some thrill and I feel like dad is wrong this time, we need magic to win the war against magic"

I look at him in disbelief
"You're crazy, you're doing this for just a stupid thrill"

He frowns at this
"Well no, I just want a better world where no body has to be haunted"

"Well I'm sorry but you've got the wrong girl, I definitely do not have magic." I finish my statement looking right into his eyes

"But..."

"There are no buts, I don't know what you and your crazy dad want to achieve but I cannot be a part because I don't have magic, I'm sorry"

And with that I quickly get on my feet and bolt out of that place before he has the chance to say or do anything.

I have a hard time making my way back home due to how dark everywhere seemed but after several minutes I finally sight my house from afar

I get to my house, I carefully unlock the door and quietly make my way up the stairs so as not to make any noise but it's as if luck is not on my side today.

The light bulb flickers on, revealing my mother seating on one of our couches, she stands and walks towards me with anger evident on her face

"Where do you think you're coming from at this time and what were you thinking leaving me at the specialist zone?"

I look at her with equal fury

"I was thinking of just how much you disgust me" before I even have a chance to properly finish, her hand connects with my cheek. Twice.

I hold my cheek with my hands and all I can feel is pain

"You know I've always wondered why dad left, now its crystal. You drove him away" I point my index finger at her, my voice raises a notch higher.
All sorts of emotions cross her face but the most prominent is pain

"My only regret is that your dad left me with you to manage. I wish he took you"

I look at her with so much pain, her words don't surprise me. I've always known she blamed dad's leaving on me.

"What's going on" we both turn to the source of the voice and see my younger brother standing on the stairs.

I quickly wipe my slightly teary eyes
"Nothing, let's go back to bed sty"
He just nods probably sensing the tension in the atmosphere and make his way back to his room. I do the same thing and hastily make my way to my bed for sleep to engulf me.

* * * * * *

I made sure to wake up early this morning to get to school on time or maybe I was just avoiding her, I couldn't care less.

As usual classes are boring and they keep teaching us stuff that are impossible to know.

Aside from the usual boring stuff, I don't get any unwanted attention at school and time goes by and by lunch I make my way to the dispensary and get some food. The lady there eyes me
"Girl you're too thin for a diet soda"

I roll my eyes at the annoying lady
"Last time I checked I didn't ask for your shit opinion"

She visibly turns red with fury from my comment while I smirk at her
She dumps water in my tray with some veggis and burger

"No Bacon"

I Huff eyeing the pile of Bacon inside the glass. I decide leave there not wanting to cause any more trouble.

I make my way to a secluded table near a window.

"Hey Lex"

He greets me with one of the widest grins I've ever seen

"I don't want to talk to you just move along"

He pulls a sit anyways
"I've really missed you. Can we hang out after school?"

He must be delirious to think I'll hang out after yesterday
"No can do" I answer not glancing at him even once

"I have something to show you and I'll even make you my secret recipe" he winks at me

"Look if you think I'll come to your house and risk running into your dad, you're even crazier than I thought"

"You won't run into my dad, him and mom are never at home anymore" he says it like he's not fazed by it but I know he is just by looking at him "just this once, I'm really bored here"

"We're in a school, I'm sure there are many others who would want to be your friend, just not me."

"I want to be your friend"

I roll my eyes at his antics
"I just..." Before I can continue the PA system comes to live

"GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: NEXT WEEK THE TRAINED MUSERS WILL BE COMING TO OUR SCHOOL TO EDUCATE US AND A GENERAL MAGIC TEST WILL BE CARRIED OUT TO DECLARE OUR SCHOOL AS MAGIC FREE. YOU KNOW THE DRILL.
GOODLUCK EVERYONE"

and then the system goes off
Chase smirks at me "looks like dad went the extra mile. Now you really need me after school"

With that he walks out of the dispensary leaving me there with my mouth agape.
