You Guys Really Are Mages (Chapter 18)

Start from the beginning

"Watch the sarcasm, I'll have you on your ass in a click," Hiromi warns and Brenton instantly covers his mouth.

Meanwhile, Amy has her arms crossed and taps her fingers against her arms. She stares right at the three family members.

"So, care to explain?" Amy raises an eyebrow, finding it hard to keep her anger in check.

"Amy, please listen with a level head and cool mind," Kiara starts.

"Um, considering what's going on, I'll try my best. But don't expect too much," Amy strains herself from yelling at them.

"Okay. So you know how Jamil is a few years older than Owen right?" Kiara asks, Amy nods. "Well, we figured that since he's the first born, he would be the Elemental Master of Earth and obviously that's not the case, but I was assigned to go and watch over him."

"I already had Kimora. I also had Xian at the time. So they were raised on both planets as I watched over Jamil. Xian and Jamil became friends, and then less than two years later Yi Min was born and she was also in the same situation. Either way, I am supposed to watch over Jamil and I obviously neglected that duty given that he's now kidnapped. And I didn't tell Jamil anything because of his parents. They were rather...controlling."

"Okay," Amy then turns to Xian. "What's your side?"

"So Jamil and I did almost everything together," Xian holds the broken frames in his pocket. "Skipped grades, college, and now med school...I thought I could protect him if I didn't tell him and just went along with life. But obviously I can't just go around with him everywhere. The one time I left him alone, everything bad happens! It's my fault, I know it."

"And I pretty much don't hang out with Jamil as much as these two do so I never would tell him," Yi Min also has her arms crossed. "Or you either."

"So what's up with not telling me at least? You could've told me," Amy asks.

"You and the Prince were then assigned to the actual Elemental Masters," Kiara starts her answer. "I could've left, but I didn't. Either way, I didn't tell you because I wanted to protect you."

"Oh don't give me that bullshit," Amy rolls her eyes. "Everyone says that. I'm the daughter of the Prince of Magic, and even Sensei knows that I can handle myself and doesn't baby m-"

"-I'm the Queen of Magic, damnit!" Kiara's nostrils flare. "Just because you're the daughter of the Prince doesn't mean you have any idea what it's like being involved with the Queen! Do you know how many mages would do something to you if they knew I cared about you?! Do you know how hard it is for my kids?!"

"And I never told you because we were never all that close. Plus, whenever we hung out Jamil was there and then the one time I was being an asshole," Xian adds in as his mom turns her back towards them and breathes heavily.

"You're...oh my gosh," Amy covers her mouth with her hand. "I get why, but still, now Jamil's kidnapped and we have no way of helping him!"

"What do we do Ma? It's all my fault he's been kidnapped," Xian frowns.

"You never told me why you didn't tell Jamil," Amy turns to him. Shock still in her body but there are questions that need answers.

"Why would I?" Xian questions. "If I told him, Owen's life would change. It's not my place to tell Jamil, it's Owen's. Because it's his life being directly affected, not...not mine."

"Okay, first off," Kiara says. "This is no one's fault. Things happen and this is just something we have to fix. We will get Jamil back in one piece."

"Did you have a vision of everything being okay?" Yi Min questions.

"No. But still," Kiara presses her lips together. "We make the future. And we're going to make a happy one."
