"So River, Trevor and Bianca told me that you kids have been working on a song that your momma wrote."
"Yeah. I think you are going to love it!"
"Do you have the lyrics with you? I'd like to read them." Spears said wiping his mouth with his napkin.
"Um, I think they might still be in my purse, let me check."
I grabbed my purse from the back of the chair and began to rifle through it. Finally I find the folded up piece of paper and I handed it over to Spears. He took his time unfolding the paper, taking a deep breath before reading. I watched him closely as he read and it seemed as if he was getting emotional. He blinked a few times like he was fighting back tears and then he folded the paper up and handed it back to me.
"River, What's your mother's name?"
"Savannah Weston. Why?" I said putting the paper back in my purse.
Spears sighed.
"I should have known, you look just like her. That first night I met you I bet you thought I was some creepy old man, the way I was staring at you. And then that playlist of yours, I've only met one other person in the world who has a playlist as eclectic as that. That's Karma for you though, and she has one mean ass army."
"I'm sorry, I don't understand." I said .
I looked to Blaise who seems to be just as confused as I am, Trevor however with his tightened jaw looked to be very much informed.
"You know my mother?"
"I do, we dated years ago, She was the one that got away." He smiled.
"Wait, is she the women you told Trevor about, that night on the boat?" I asked sitting up.
" You heard that huh?" He raised an eyebrow and smiled.
"Yeah, sorry, I can be a little nosy sometimes." I blushed. "When did you date though? She's never mentioned you before."
I took another bite of my pancakes. I wonder if my mom liked him as much as he seemed to like her, or maybe he was just one of the guys she had fun with.
What if he's been in love with my mother this whole time and she never gave him the time of day because she was so hung up on my father? I Immediately started to feel sorry for him.
"They didn't call me Spears back then, that's my last name. I didn't start going by that name until I got into music about 15 years ago and wanted to use a stage name."
Trevor sat up straight in his chair like he was bracing himself for something. Blaise noticed too and his eyes went wide like he's figured something out.
"My first name is Nathan." Spears said.
I dropped my fork and quickly stood up from the table. Trevor was at my side in seconds.
"Were you ever in the Air Force?" I asked him in a panicked tone.
" I was, I see you know a little about me already." He smiled.
"Oh I know A LOT about you."
I was feeling a lot of emotions at one time and currently anger was at the forefront.
"Like how you made out with some random slut right in front of my mother. How you weren't even sorry enough to go after her and apologize. You sat there and watched as her heart shattered into a million pieces and you didn't even care!"
"Of course I cared. River I have loved your mother since the minute I laid eyes on her. I still love her."
"Bullshit!" I grabbed my purse from the chair. "Trevor take me home."
