Chapter 8: I Miss You

“(Y/n) got her memories back not even an hour ago, give her some damn space,” Bakugou demanded rather than asked of the boys while you clutched onto him for life like a child to his mother’s leg. It was evident the strength in your legs have refused to come back still.

“Yeah, sure,” Kirishima smiled ear to ear. “It’s just great seeing you two lovebirds back.”

“Hey don’t-” Bakugou almost retaliates, instead he found no use as the nickname wasn’t all that bad; it was cutsey, unlike him, but it felt like a reward since the light of his life was finally out of harm's way. Kirishima practically read his mind, mentally telling himself to use the name more often.

“ALL MIGHT!!!” Midoriya cried out of the blue. You didn’t follow his gaze, rather your eyes met his own. The emerald in his jewel of an eye was stricken with fear, constricted to all but a dot in a sea of white with no trace of happiness visible for miles. Midoriya is genuinely scared, not once in all your months of knowing him have you ever seen him so violently frightened out of his skin. Bakugou helped you to the large jumbo tv that's mounted to a skyscraper behind. The tv projected the escalating fight between All for One and All Might in such high definition it only made more room for fear to settle in. The screen had no secrets, revealing one of the biggest ones in the world with All Might all doubled over, spent, one of his arms nearly obliterated. No, All Might being nearly defeated wasn’t the most shocking part of all this. He was all skin and bones, sunken cheeks and swimming in his own hero costume. Forget the fact that Bakugou and yourself were rescued. All Might’s identity as one of the weakest men in the world was blaring live to the world while he’s dying trying to protect everything he loves.

Tears burned and tugged at your eyes. “He’s gonna die because of me…” If only you listened to Toshinori the day of your internship. He told you to either keep out of Hosu or help with locate and rescue of endangered civilians. Foolish… So very foolish to think you could help take on a Nomu; a creature that nearly killed All Might months before. If only you listened, capture wouldn’t be in the equation.

“Quit taking all the blame,” Bakugou snapped you out of your slump. “I know you aren’t good with All Might half of the time but I know he can win. He’s fighting for you, for us, and nobody’s gonna kill him!” Bakugou balled up his fist, giving the tv his full attention. Why were you doubting everything? All Might was battered to hell and back, obliterated bones and blood dribbling down his spiked chin and arms. There’s no way he can win. Bakugou found your lack of a reply let alone attention to the screen concerning. “You’re doubting him aren’t you?” He asked with a bitter tone of utter disappointment.

“He’s at his weakest for so… Many… Reasons…” His long term lung injury, the fact that Midoriya and yourself possess almost every last ounce of One for All that All Might used to wield and lastly his Nomu fight that he never had the time to fully recover from. His true form shows just how much he’s been through. “Toshi is dying…” Your lip quivered. “He’s always coughing up blood and pushing to make sure his Successor is properly trained before he leaves for good. It’s also partially why he let Aizawa take me in so easily… It’ll take a miracle for him to win Bakugou…”

“N-No that can’t be true (Y/n),” Midoriya overheard you.

“Believe what you want,” you gave in. “As much as I want him to win… I don’t think he can…”

“We’re all rooting for him! Determination and praise can take someone a long way!” Midoriya clenched his fists and wore this determined heroic smile that was like poison ivy, contagious. “If it wasn’t for you three, an-an-and the rest of our class I would’ve given up as a hero long ago! Let’s help him out!” Kirishima, Bakugou and yourself were genuinely moved by Midoriya’s words. But… How exactly can you help?
