Chapter 1. Now or Never

Start from the beginning

"Thats a lie. That one dude in class who never speaks scored higher than me last semester." I retorted.

"Are you talking about 'Mystery'?" She said wiggling her eyebrows at me.

"Shut up!" I hissed out while she cackled. Lil shit.

We walked into the classroom to our usual seats near the back. She began telling me about this guy she hooked up with but he never got back in touch with her. Before I can tell her that he probably wasn't worth it, the door swung open to reveal a dark figure clad in a black hoodie that says 'die' standing at the door.

Jason Roméz.

He lazily made his way to the furthest seat in the back near the window as the classroom suddenly went quiet. He plopped his perfect ass onto the wooden chair and rested his head on his bag.

"Isn't Mystery looking smexy today, Lele?" Jaz asked winking with both eyes.

"Are you...blinking...or winking?" I said with a raised brow. She rolled her eyes.

"I don't understand why you don't talk to him. You've been crushing on him since forever. Why don't you go over there and wiggle that cute ass of yours, huh?"she suggested hopefully.

"Fuck no. You want me to talk to him when he wouldn't even talk back to me." I said with squinted eyes.

"Don't be such a pussy. Ask him out." She poked me in my ribs making me squeal loudly gaining the attention of the class.

"Ask him out or I will tickle you to death." She claimed with her both hands raised in the air. I turned to the curious glances and then to her smirking face.

"Uhh...sorry?" I offered meekly earning noises of irritation as they faced forward once more. I heard quiet snickers and turned to see her palm over her mouth trying to hide the sounds coming out if her mouth while I grunted knowing I would have to follow through with asking Jason out.

"Alright class. Take out your note books and start writing-" I wasn't quite focusing on Sir. Borris because I was completely caught up staring at Jason questioning his mysterious demeanor. Though I found him attractive, believe me when I say : no one has ever seen his face. EVER.

I knew it was pretty weird but it just adds to my curiousity and makes me more infatuated with him. He, with no doubt, has an amazing body figure. From the way he walks to the graceful way he moves through a crowd of people. I may sound like a creep but I don't really care.

After class, Jaz and I made our way to art and then to lunch. We walked into the cafeteria, spotting our group of friends.

"Hey, guys!" Jaz said in a sing-sing voice. Everyone greeted us then went back to chattering about their little vacation.

"Hey, Leah?" Chris, my childhood boy bestfriend nudged me.

"Hmm?" I hummed.

"You've been zoning out for awhile. What are you looking at?" He glanced around my line of sight before he smirked when his eyes landed on 'Mystery'. And yes. He knew about my crush on Jason. They all did.

"Stop eye-fucking the guy. He might just report you for assult. Creep." Evan stated faking a gag followed by everyone laughing and me throwing a fry in which he almost caught with his mouth, pouting at how he missed it.

"Speaking of Mystery," Jaz trailed off getting everyone's attention. She flickered her eyes to me with pure mischeivousness in her wicked smile.
"Our Leah here, has agreed to ask Mr. Hot 'n' Sexy over there on a date." She announced pointing at Jason sitting down by himself with earplugs in reading some sort of book. He wasn't doing much, but I didn't understand why every girl didn't fall at his feet. Not that I am complaining though! But I still don't quite understand.

"Bullshit." Evan called, scoffing before he finished his iced coffee.

"Leah is way too much of a coward. She would run off before he even acknowledges her." He said smugly before Chris tapped his head earning a deep grunt of protest from Evan. He deserved it. Jerk.

"Nah! Don't take that from that toad! Go prove them wrong, babygirl." She said dramatically. I gave her an exassperated look before she gave me a 'bitch, I don't care' look. I sighed in defeat before getting up and throwing away my trash.

I looked at Jason gently bopping his head to the music then licking his thumb to turn the page. Damn. That was sexy. I then turned in my friends' direction to see them beckoning me to go talk to him.

I reluctantly went over to him. I stood behind him contemplating if I should really run away before he sees me like what that bastard Evan said, or should I stay aand embarass myself.
It was now or never.

Gathering my nerves and some brain cells, I tapped his shoulder. He visibly stiffened before taking off his earplugs and shutting the book.

"Uh.....is this seat taken?" I asked. Such a stupid question. Ofcourse its not taken! He sits by himself! He gestured towards the seat letting me sit next to him but I made sure not to sit too close to him. He kept his head down, probably waiting for me to explain why I bothered him. I pursed my lips, anxious that I might embarass myself.

Now or never.

I sighed out getting rid of some of the nerves before asking him.

"What are you reading?" I said, truly curious to who he really was.

He handed me the book that was neat with no creasings or dog ears. Huh.
I read the title 'Massacre the Triology'.
My eyes widened.

"I love this book!" I said. I have read this book many times, each time making me feel like riding an emotional rollercoaster. And bitch, I loved it! Its a very gore-y book, but nervertheless my favourite.

He seemed to perk up at this. He digs around in his bag before pulling out a note book scribling down, in a perfect and attractive handwritting might I add, to the paper before handing it to me.

'I have never met a person who read this book before. This is my third time reading it.' It read.

"Neither have I. Most people think that I'm weird for reading these kinds of vulgar books." I said laughing nervously. I cleared my throat.

"I'm Leah. Leah Song." I said somehow managing to keep my voice steady. He shook my hand. It was honestly so soft and warm it made the inner cliché girl in me swoon. His large hands enveloping mine. He was a darker man, more on the tanned side. Not that I discriminate. I like my little dose of chocolate once in a whille.

I nodded understanding why he hasn't told me his name. Before things can get awkward, I asked him what I have been dying to ask.

"Do you wanna go on a date this Saturday?" I said squeezing my eyes shut ready to hear him laugh though that was highly unlikely. I opened up my eyes when I heard writing on paper.

'Sure, I can pick you up at 1pm." It read. I sat frozen, not expected that at all. I blushed crimson looking away from the paper to see him playing expertly with the pencil. It was the smallest things he did that made me have to clench my legs shut.

"Really?" I asked, my voice a little higher than usual.

His shoulders shook a little, probably laughing silently not allowing me to hear his voice much to my dismay. He nodded his head slightly before he extended an arm giving me his phone.
I looked at him questioningly before he wrote on the paper.

'Let's exchange numbers so we can stay in touch.'

I suddenly felt dumb. For a student who normally tops her classes, she doesn't know how to decipher simple gestures. We quickly exchanged numbers and I left saying goodbye and him giving me a nod.

I was excited to say the least. The bell rung loudly signalling that we had to go for registration. I didn't see the others so they probably went to class already. They left me. I need myself some new friends. I knew nothing could've dampen my good mood today.

Jason Roméz, you've just made it a hundred times better.
