Rebooting.
I boot up and sit up. I am lying on the couch. The TV is on the channel Ann set it to earlier.
"Are you okay...?"
Ann sits on the edge of the table, looking at me.
"Yes. I shut down due to some type of error overriding my system," I explain.
"Your LED......" she says.
"It... It was red. Right before you shut down, it was solid red."
I feel myself shake. Was I... Scared?
I turn my head to look out the window. I see Lieutenant Anderson sitting in a chair.
"Lieutenant.."
"Connor, I'm not gonna be honest," he starts.
I look at Ann.
"If you're a deviant, I'm going to have to report it to Cyber Life."
"But, Lieutenant!" I exclaim.
"Let him finish.." Ann assures.
Lieutenant sighs and continues.
"But, since you are aware of the current situations, especially after the Jericho incident, they won't shut you down or reset you. I've already prepared for this situation."
"Dad wants me to help you, Connor. Help you find yourself. Your human self."
I stare at Ann.
I was a Deviant.
The thing that I.... Feared.
I felt my thirium run fast through my body. The error overtakes again, and my barrier shatters as I try to rid of it.
I stand and race outside.Ann's P.O.V
Dad and I follow Connor outside. His LED is flashing red rapidly, and he seems sporatic. He stops at the end of the side walk and faces us.
"Ann. Lieutenant. I'm sorry, but I don't want to put you in any danger."
I walk up to him, he hesitates, then let's me approach him.
"This is what I've been studying for 3 years.. I'm here for you, Connor," I assure.
He falls to his knees and his LED is solid red. He starts crying. Something that makes Dad suprisingly go to Connor's side.
"It's alright, son," he says, kneeling down and putting his hand on Connor's shoulder.
Connor weeps.
"I'm... I'm going to be destroyed... Although you say I won't, I know I will..."
Dad and I help Connor up and lead him back into the house. We take him to the bathroom to get him a cloth.
Dad goes downstairs to make some tea while I stay up with Connor as he cleans off his face.
"I'm sorry, Ann... I failed my mission... I'm nothing; worth nothing to you now."
"Connor, no!" I shout.
"You are worth so much more now! Being an android slave was NOT your desire in the beginning. You were different, and Dad knew this was bound to happen.. I don't care whether you are a deviant or not. You're still my friend and I'm going to help you overcome your fear and help you be human, I promise you," I say, holding back tears.
Connor looks at himself in the mirror and opens the cabinet, taking out Dad's knife he used to shave. He holds it up to his temple, to his LED.
He cuts it out, letting it fall down the drain. The wound heals in seconds, and he looks at me.
"Now, what do normal humans wear..? Without my LED, I'll look suspicious still in my clothes."
I smile.
"How about you borrow some of Dad's stuff and we take you out shopping?" I suggest.
He nods solemnly and I lead him to Dad's room. I grab a dark blue buttoned and collared shirt, some blue jeans and a pair of shoes and socks for him. I turn away as he dresses.
"How do I look?"
I turn around and admire him. You never could tell he was an android. His hair was messier than normal, his bangs falling over his eye. The blue suit him. I feel blush come over my face.
Connor blushes as well.
"You look good. Human.."
Dad comes into the room and let's out an audible shock.
"Lookin' good boy. Now go get some of your own clothes, I'm gonna go to the department and talk to the CEO about all this..."
Dad grabs his wallet and hands me his card.
He walks out and I hear him leave the house. There is an awkward silence before Connor speaks.
"Shall we go?"We leave the mall with four new outfits for Connor.
He seemed excited during our shopping trip and everything looked amazing on him. We hop onto the bus and he stares at the android compartment.
"Connor..?"
My eyes follow him as he looks at me. He break out of his trance and smiles. The ride home is awkward, but upon entering, Connor starts to speak.
"So.. Since I am human.. Doesn't that mean... Well...."
Connor blushes.
"That I must, as you say... Fall in love?"
I blush.
"Well yeah, most people fall in love, have a family," I say.
"I am installed with the ability to have intercourse and climax with semen to impregnate-"
I cut him off.
"Okay, I get it. They really thought of everything, huh?" I mumble.
"I guess so."
I groan.
"Do you know what fear is, Ann?" he asks.
"Of course!" I exclaim.
"Well, when I became a deviant and realized I was.... I realized I feared it happening all this time.." he says, solemnly.
I walk over to him and cup his face.
"I know, every android who realizes they are human are scared. That's why they freak out." I explain.
Connor paces away from me and sits at the counter in the kitchen.
Sumo slowly comes over to him and whines. I smile as Connor leans down and starts to pet him. Sumo's tail wags happily.
Connor looks up to me and smiles.
"Would you like to go out with me today, Ann?" He says abruptly.
I pause in my tracks as I'm about to clean the dishes left over by Dad the night prior as I try to understand his words.
"Uh... Like hangout with you? Or like a..-"
He cuts me off.
"A date. I'd like to go on a date to learn how to make romantic relationships with others. Seeing as though I'll need to do so in the future," he explains.
I blush. Was it really? Why was my heart racing? Why did I feel..... jealous over Connor wanting to date other people?
"S-sure," I mumble, loud enough for him to hear me.
"Alright, go get ready."
