"Who's ready to go see The Weeknd live?!" The car erupted in cheers.
~~~~~~~~
Snowflakes were descending softly from the evening sky to land on the crowds below. Many people had massed to see the legendary musician performing. The show was open air and had many large spotlights and red light beams pointing into and sweeping through the audience. Charlie had bought floor tickets so that we were right against the stage and would be the first to notice when Michael Jacksons successor took the stage.
(Cue lost in the fire)
We heard the note of a reversed piano fading in from the speakers on the stage, sweeping left to right, just before we were hit by a chord and the crowd went wild as they recognized his hit single with Gessaflestein. We saw a flash of blue light and then... the beat dropped in and he simply appeared centre stage, singing with a voice that could only be described as a fusion of MJ and Prince. The crowd went wild when they saw Abel, including us. Abel was clad in the same blue coat from the songs music video and had... for lack of a better word, a fork sticking out of the side of his flat top. It was a specific look, but The Weeknd pulled it off well. His voice and dance were amazing, but the lyrical content was making me uncomfortable. He was talking about settling down, having a child, and confessing that he couldn't bear to lose the woman he loves. I turned my head to Sam for a moment and thought of all the words I was afraid to say to her. I wanted to say them, and I wasn't too afraid to do so, but now just was not the time for me to say it. As Abel ended the song, the synthetic chords began to glide around for a bit before transitioning into a very recognizable pattern.
(Cue CFMF!)
The crowd lost control at the sound of his most beloved hit single. He built up the energy before the chorus with his poetic lyrics and powerful vocals before finally dropping into the danceable, feel good, R&B groove that had the fans jumping and screaming the iconic hook. Abel moved like MJ on the stage, the moonwalk, the spin, the foot slides and cross steps, they were all so far beyond perfect. Abel was carving that stage up! Watching the performance got the whole party jumping. At the end of the song he thanked his fans for coming and continued on into his new album.
I can't share any specific details about the project, and but it blew everyone's minds.
At the end of the concert, it was nine in the evening and Sam and I were hungry.
"Okay!" Charlie declared after I told him that we needed food. We got into the van and Charlie pulled out crunching snow under his tires. "Let's hit Burger King!" Everybody but me cheered
"No, not for us." I said. Sam whipped around to stare in shock at me and Charlie looked at me in the rear view mirror, we locked eyes. "All of you can hit BK if you want to. It's just that" I gave Charlie a quick look which he returned after I told him that me and Sam had to go somewhere a bit more... "formal."
Charlie dropped us off at Pini's Italian a short while later where Sam and I went to a prereserved table. I figured this would be the optimal place to do it, high end restaurant and venue of our first actual date. Pini's were always open late into the evening and not many people were there so we had plenty of time for ourselves. I thought of many things, what would I say?How I would say it? How I would give her the gift?
I guess one can't really prepare them self for this. One just... does it
"Do you remember first time that we were here?" Sam asked me after we had ordered our drinks. Sam had tried to order us each a root beer but I stopped her and asked for a bottle of Merlot, Copper moon instead, A very high end red wine. I kind of figured expensive red wine was more romantic then generic root beer.
