"Hm?" He hummed, looking up at you. God, those eyes. Everything about him was beautiful, you could say perfect. The way he always made sure to take care of you always made your heart flutter.
"Uh, so," You began, lightly blushing as you thought of it. "This Friday, at my office, we're having this party, you know, we'll have like food and stuff. Anyways, I kind of got myself into a mess? And I was wondering if you could maybe pretend to be my fiancé for the night?"
Suddenly, the glimpse in his eyes turned bright and a light, pink tint appeared at his cheeks.
"Okay, that's fine," He nodded and smiled, taking a bite from his platter. "How should I dress? Should I buy us rings, y'know, to make us being engaged a little more realistic?"
You were caught off guard by his response, you know that he'd agree to helping you, but you didn't expect him to be willing to help at that degree. Even if it were just pretend, the thought of it made you smile and made your heart grow heavy with warmth.
"Formal, just a dress shirt and slacks would be fine. You don't have to go through the trouble–"
"I mean, what kind of fiancé would I be without my engagement ring on? And what kind of fiancé would I be if I didn't get you one? It'll be a simple band, nothing over-the-top," Steve convinced you to agree to matching engagement rings. You finish your meal and both of you held the excitement in of being able to play each other's fiancés.
——
The night came where your office party would take place. It began at seven, and you heard a knock on your door at five. You slipped out of your bedroom and to the apartment's front door within moments. Before you, Steve was knelt on the floor with an engagement ring in his palms.
"Y/F/N Y/L/N," Steve smiled as he looked up at you, his eyes gleaming with joy. "Will you do me the honor of being my fake fiancée?"
You smiled, blushing and grabbing Steve's hands. "Of course, I would love to, Stevie."
He got up, slipping the ring onto your ring finger. He closed the door behind him and followed you to your bedroom.
"I hope you don't mind, I brought my clothes here so I could just change here? If that's okay," Steve chuckled as he ran his fingers through his hair and set his clothes onto your bed. "I was thinking maybe I could just crash here after the party? It's been a while since we've had a sleepover."
"Yeah, that's perfectly fine, you're already doing me a huge favor by being here," You smiled as you were continuing to do your makeup. In the next forty minutes, you finished getting ready and Steve got ready in the bathroom.
"You look absolutely stunning, Y/N," Steve smiled as his eyes laid on you. He felt his heart beat as you came closer, pulling him in for a hug.
"Thanks, Steve," You smiled. "You don't look too bad yourself, Mr. Rogers."
He chuckled and got up from the couch, grabbing his leather jacket.
"Are we ready to go?" He asked as you walked next to him. Nodding, you walk to the front door and shut it behind you two.
As both you and Steve had gotten into his car, Steve looked over at you briefly during a res light. "So, what exactly do I do? More specifically, what do I do to play the part of your fiancé?"
You thought briefly and your eyes brightened, as did his. "You wouldn't mind just holding hands or hugging, right?"
Steve shook his head as he turned back to the road and smiled. "If you want, we can do a little peck here and there? Just so it's less suspicious, I mean."
"Of course, that'll be good," You nodded and smiled, turning away to hide your now pink face from him.
Arriving at the office was hectic, with everyone crowding you two and asking questions about the wedding, living together, and other questions people usually ask engaged couples. There was a dance floor set up, and you decided to dance with Steve.
"I think we're amazing at acting," You joked as you rested your head on his chest.
"Actually, Y/N," Steve nearly whispered and his heart began to race. "The funny thing is, I haven't been acting. I really do love you."
You felt your heart go up your throat. You couldn't have been imagining any of this.
"What?" You looked up at him in shock, but happiness beaming on your expression.
"I love you, Y/N, and I was hoping that maybe we could do this, but as something real. Of course, we won't be fiancés right away, that's not really my style, but I want to be one of the reasons you smile. I've grown to love it and I've wanted to tell you this for the longest time, and now I feel like it feels right."
With that, you tip-toe and plant you lips softly on his. It didn't feel like the rest of the room was looking at you, it didn't even feel like anyone but you two were there. It felt right.
"You have no idea how much I've wanted to do that," You smile softly as Steve pulls you closer, a hand on your waist and the other cupping your cheek.
"I love you, Y/N."
"I love you too, Steve."
