"You're seducing her." Venable hissed sourly at Michael.
The two went head to head with each other angrily.
"Seduce?" Michael scoffed, entertained yet caught. "Who else is tending to the large gash on her head, hm? You all were well aware of her scar from the moment she was brought here."
"Gia was fine before she met you, Langdon." Venable snapped at him, unconvinced of his excuse. "All of a sudden she is in pain and fainting and gaining new injuries." She fixed her posture and looked at Michael with disgust. "You're taking her to the sanctuary."
"Yes." Michael simply responded. He sat back nonchalantly in his seat and clasped his hands together. He didn't care about anything that came from this annoying woman's mouth.
"Who else?"
"Who are you to be asking?" Michael quickly retorted. That was his last straw. He stood up from his seat and propped himself against the large desk. "Now, go do whatever it is you do around here. Go check on Gia. It is now your duty to serve Gia and tend to her wounds."
Venable bit her tongue and swiftly left the room. She was furious and irritated. The bitter hate and selfishness in her heart showed and she wasn't afraid to make it apparent.
She decided to check on Gia now rather than later. With each step up the staircase, Venable felt angry. Approaching Gia's open door, she pushed it fully open with her free hand. She made sure her presence was known by the eerie, echoing sounds of her cane.
Gia was sitting up in her bed, now patiently waiting to discover why Venable had come. She stood still in the doorway.
"Hi.." Gia greeted her first, a bit nervously. Venable hadn't acknowledged Gia back and just approached her slowly.
"Turn your head." Venable said once she stood over Gia, right beside her bed. Gia listened, and figured right away it was for her wounds.
Venable was sickened by the large gash that dragged far down Gia's head. When Gia was first brought to the place, she was made aware of her wound by Ms. Meade. She made it her responsibility to deal with Gia at that time. Now it came back around for her to deal with. She was actually a bit concerned, but swallowed that worry down.
"Does it hurt?" Venable asked.
"Yes." Gia quickly answered, intimidated by her presence.
"I will have Ms. Meade bring you pain medication and she will disinfect your wound. Let us know if you need anything. But do not be a pest."
Gia nodded quietly and looked down at her lap, avoiding eye contact and offending Venable in any way. Just before she exited her room, Gia thanked her.
"Thank you." She quickly said. Venable froze in her slow steps.
"You're welcome." Venable said in her normal bitter tone, then continued out. Gia thought to herself that she was slowly growing on Venable's cold self.
Gia wondered constantly why she was so embittered. Venable's entire presence and attitude was full of resent and hatred, but for what? She figured in the world's current standing, wouldn't being spiteful be the last thing when we were part of the last surviving, healthy humans alive? We could make it through this moment in time and help rebuild and reproduce to bring humanity back. Someone could find a cure to all the radiation that had tyrannized those outside of our protective walls. Also, to know that we were not the only survivors within a safe place so that we all could fight this together brought me hope.
Or so Gia thought.
