"Troy, I'm kind of scared to meet your family." Cali said
"What are you scared for, there's nothin' to be scared of. They're cool ass people's." He said and aggressively took her hand as they walked up the stairs of his parents front porch.
"I mean, I've never met my boyfriends family before. I just want them to like me."
"Of course they'll like you." He nonchalantly said
Troy wasn't making her nervousness any better with how nonchalant he was being towards her. But as always, Cali overlooked him and tried to calm herself down. Both Troy and Cali have been together since Troy graduated high school at 17. Cali was 15 at the time but she really liked Troy so nothing held her back, not even her parents disapproval of his age. A year later and she's finally meeting his parents.
Troy knocked on the door and dusted off his shirt, smoothed out his jacket.
"I look good?" He asked
"Of course you do, but why are you acting like it's your first time meetin' your parents? You don't have to look like you're fresh out of a magazine." Cali said
Troy chuckled, "By far it isn't the first time, but you know I always gotta look nice." He said
He knocked on the door, "I wish you would've gotten that straight hair I suggested instead of those damn braids." Troy said to her
She side eyed him and before she could respond, the front door opened—making her lose complete focus.
"Hey, mama." Troy said and went in for a hug.
They hugged then she diverted her attention to Cali, "Ooou—you're pretty." She said and pulled Cali inside
"What's your name?" She asked
"Son!" His father said, not even acknowledging his sons new girlfriend he never met.
Troy walked over to his dad and begin talking.
"I'm Cali—Calisa. But, most people call me Cali." She said as they walked to the kitchen together.
"You don't have to be nervous—I'm as friendly as I look. I made dinner, I'm just waiting on his brother to get home." She explained
"His brother?" Cali asked
"Yeah, I know you didn't think he had no siblings." She said
"Out of all these years he never disclosed having a brother." Cali said
"He has a younger sister, too. She's 15, but she's not home." His mom said
"Oh—I'm a year older than her." Cali said
"You're 16?" His mom asked with a surprised expression
"Yeah." Cali said, immediately regretting speaking on her age.
His mom went silent for a second, but you could tell she was deep into thought.
"I would've thought you were older, you're so mature." His mom said
Cali smiled, "Thank you."
She raised her eyebrows, "How do your parents feel about this?"
Cali shrugged, "They disapproved of it for a while but they eventually came around." She responded
