The searing pain soon came after. The red, hot, searing pain. Your closed eyes soon flew open in shock, a scream flying out of your parted lips. James' eyes floated up to meet yours, and they did.
That last final click. And then, to your surprise, they were gone.
You couldn't even see by what. But the weight of his body disappeared. You were sure you were dying though.. I mean, it was obvious.
How can I get this over with?
You were desperate to make the pain stop. You couldn't even tell where it was coming from at this point. It was all over.
You forced yourself to the side, writhing in pain. And that's when you saw it.
A large, black dog. And then.. two more, different colors, just as large. How was that even possible? Were they wolves? You had no idea.. it wasn't like anything you'd ever seen before. They tussled with James, diving and curling as if it was some sick dance.
The thought distracted you from the pain for a moment, but not for long. It was getting worse. You felt your vision starting to tunnel into a black pipe.
"H-elp .." you whispered, oncemore helplessly fading from your own consciousness. You woke up for the second time today not knowing where you were. Except, wait..
your eyes scanned the room. You did know this place. It was the small house that you had stayed the night at when you went to the bonfire. It was.. Jacob Black's house.. right?
Am I dead? The afterlife is some teen boy's house?
The pain starting to return disproved your suspicions. You were not dead. How did you even get out of that situation? Wait.. James!
You sat upright, and then let out a yell of pain.
Two people were right by your side.
"Y/n! Lay down!" It was Carlisle. "She's up, go tell Jasper."
"Okay." The other voice.. it was Jacob. He headed out. You shook your head in surprise.. and pain.
"C-Carlisle!" You gasped. "You're- I'm- James-"
He nodded, his face serious as always.
"James is dead. He's not coming back. You.. got bitten by him. You're-" he hesitated. "I'll let Jasper tell you."And there he was. Your golden angel. Eyes wide, you reached out a shaky hand for him.
"J-asper..." you squeaked out, your breathing uneven and rugged.
He stayed his distance though. He looked so pained..
"(Y/n)..." he whispered, his hands curling into fists. What he did next surprised you.
Dropping to his knees infront of you, he clutched your hand, his head dropping in shame.
"I-I'm so Sorry." His voice was dripping with regret.
"It's all my fault and now you're..."
he looked up. He looked like he was about to cry.
"Now you're-"
He couldn't even get it out. But you knew.
"Jasper-" you bit your lip, letting out a small noise of pain, before continuing. "It's ok-ay.." you took another shaky breath. The pain was getting bad again. "You-re.. here. That's all th-at matters.."
your words didn't quite string together right.
He shook his head.
"No it's not.. I didn't- I didn't protect you. Even now.. I can hardly stand to be here when you're hurt and bleeding. It's shameful."
You squinted. "I-I'm bleeding?"
His eyes trailed to your collarbone, and yours did too.A large medical cotton bandage was plastered on your left collarbone, but already almost soaked through with blood. "Oh." Was all you could manage to get out.
He looked away. "(Y/n) I'm so sorry.."
Carlisle interrupted you two.
"Jasper, I think it's time to go. Things are going to get bad now." Jasper gave him a look. You wondered if his past made this more painful for him than you. "How come I have to leave and this thing gets to stay?" He motioned towards Jacob. It was confusing to you. Thing? What was wrong with Jacob? Carlisle shot him a look.
"You know why."
Jasper growled, cursing under his breath, before taking a shaky breath. He really must be upset...
He turned to you, placing a soft kiss on your forehead. "I'll never forgive myself. But for now, fight my love."Carlisle turned back to you after watching Jasper leave. "Now, (y/n), this is important. You need to listen to me. I know you're already in pain.. but, this is the turning point. It's going to be really hard from now on but.. we need you keep fighting. I'll do what I can to help medically but.. if you fight-"
His look said the rest.
You nodded, clutching the sofa pillow with a tight fist. Your body felt like it was on fire.
"H-how'd I get.. here-?"
Carlisle glanced at Jacob Black. "Jacob and his pack saved you."
his pack?
The look you gave seemed to convey your confusion.
"We're uh.. werewolves." Jacob explained, scratching the back of his head and shrugging as if it was some causal thing. The image of the wolves fighting James crossed your mind. That was Jacob?
Your eyebrows scrunched together. "What the fu-"
A scream interrupted your sentence. It came from you of course. "-ck this HURTS!" You yell, tossing this pillow across the room.
After a bit of flailing, you oncemore returned with a question. "W-Why didn't I know-?"
Carlisle cast a glance over at Jacob.
"We are not.. on the best terms." He said politely.
"We don't cross their territory. They don't bother us. This of course.. was an exception."
Jacob didn't say anything, instead nodding in confirmation. It had been awhile. Things were really getting hard. You weren't sure you could put up with much more of it. But Jasper's words rang in your ear..
