Ch 13: Strange Dreams

Our homeroom teacher arrived. She had a funny expression on her face. After the greetings, she spoke up, "We will try something new, my students! For this week, you'll be pairing up with one of your fellow classmates and do the projects for all the subjects."       Almost everyone in the class became happy, probably because they'd be pairing up with their friend.   I'll be pairing up with Tracie.

"Ahem, students" the teacher interrupted, "I haven't finished yet."    Suddenly, the atmosphere became quiet.   "The thing is, you don't get to choose who to pair up with! It's already decided. Random roll numbers have been paired up. You will find the list on the notice board outside the classroom."

There were mixed reactions of students. After the class, everyone headed out to check the notice board. Emiko was continuously pushing me out of the way, so I decided to check it out after everyone has left.  Tracie briefly came to me to tell that she was not my partner.

Finally after the place became vacant, I stood in front of the notice board and searched for my roll number.  I don't know any one's roll number except mine and Tracie's. Anyways I took note of my partner's roll number. I can find that person with Tracie's help.  As soon as I turned around, I was surprised. Damian had been standing behind me this whole time!

"I suppose I should start believing in fate too, Miss Roth." Damian said tilting his head to his left side.     That's it! He's my partner for sure! Why does this keep happening to me?!       "Are you my partner?" I whispered softly.      "Unfortunately,yes! Being aware of your academic progress, I have to take your burden too. And fortunately, I am capable of doing anything!"           "Will you ever stop boasting, Damian?"           "Am I boasting? I am just stating the truth. Anyways, after having lunch in the cafeteria, come to the school library. We'll have to get the required books."       "Yeah, fine. Whatever!"

-------------------Time Skip--------------------

Location: Cafeteria

When I reached the cafeteria, Tracie and the others were already sitting at the table. I grabbed my food and settled with them.   They were chatting and laughing as usual.   "Heyyo, Rachel! All good?" Jon asked.      "All good. What about you all?" I replied.    "We are all fine, Rachel!" Terra said cheerfully.  

Tracie called out to me, "Hey, Rachel, my partner is Andrew."          "You sound so happy to be his partner," Jaime scoffed.   "Are you jealous, Jaime?" Tracie mocked.    Jaime looked away hesitantly. Everybody giggled.     "Well, did you find your partner, Rachel?" Tracie asked.   Why this question?!      I murmured, "Well, about that,........"

"Rachel, you ought to finish your food fast and meet me in the library!"

I turned around in my seat to see Damian standing behind me.  "Soooo..... Damian is your partner," Tracie smirked.   "Why are you intimidating her, dude?" Garfield commented.    Gosh, I don't want to leave just yet...    "Umm, did you have your lunch, Damian?" I asked him.      "You don't have to worry. I am quite strict about sticking to my meal plans, unlike you, Roth!" Damian taunted.     My head dropped in embarrassment.    

Donna spoke up, "You two seem to be quite familiar with each other!"            "Well, things happened." Damian said.       "I can smell something in the air. Is it just me?" Terra said.         What smell?  I can't smell anything!

After finishing my food, I followed Damian to the library. It was my first time here. It is quite big!   "Tt. My house accommodates a library, bigger than this!"        

"Stop boasting and tell me what to do."      

"Search for books which could be used as reference for the History project, while
I search for Chemistry books."

"Why do we have to start the projects today itself?"

"It's better to get the work done as early as possible. Now stop complaining and do it."

I went towards the History section. There were so many books, so many things to know about!  So many books mentioning how good ruled over evil in the past. Will I be able to overcome my evil side?

I went through the books for a while until I realized that I was distracted. I have to find books for the project!   And I found it!  But the book was placed too high for my hands to reach. I could just use my magic and fly myself there...but NO!   

I started jumping like a kangaroo. My fingers finally touched the edge of the book, but failed to grab it!  The book started to move and finally fall!  I instinctively shut my eyes and put my hands over my head.....   Wait, why didn't the book fall yet?!     I slowly opened my eyes to see  a hand holding the book, inches above my head!   It was Damian.  His reflexes are so fast!

"Good choice of book, Rachel! This can help us with the project," he said while checking the book.     "Glad you liked it. And thanks for stopping the book from falling on my head."  I said.  

"Ohh no, thank you for humoring me with your kangaroo jump. You looked really funny."

"You...you watched me struggle to get the book. So why didn't  you come earlier and help me?"

"I guess I found it amusing to see that little size of yours jumping crazily. As long as you're not hurt it's fine."

Actually, I am pretty busy nowadays. But still, I'll take out time and write this. I'm keeping my chapters' word length of approx. 1500 words, so that I can update frequently.   Do VOTE if you like it!
