"I hope so, his brooding persona scares me."
You felt your mate relax as you laid your head on his shoulder. "I'll be by your side for the rest of eternity, so if you need anything just let me know."
"I will Y/n, you don't have to worry about that."
"Good. I'm glad."
You stayed together in the common room for quite a while, just enjoying yourselves and allowing your family to really get to know Elliot.
Then came the inevitable, dinner with just your parents and the both of you. Luckily your mother tried her hardest to focus Elliot's attention away from your father as his pissy glare continued to bore into him.
Finally you had enough of his attitude and said something.
"Dad stop doing that! Can't you see you've been making everyone very uncomfortable?"
His eyes met yours, his expression held a bit of shock. "Excuse me?"
"Stop trying to intimidate him! He's been nothing but nice to you but you're treating him like this is some sort of wing's measuring contest! Excuse my language but get your head outta your ass and start acting like an adult!"
You threw your napkin onto the chair and stomped off to your room, slamming the door so hard that your vanity shook.
Something you didn't see was Elliot's attempt to go after you but your mother stopping him, forcing your father to go in his stead.
His behavior was the reason you were so frustrated after all.
You sat on your bed, staring out your balcony window when he winnowed in.
"You couldn't knock first?"
"I knew you'd throw something at me when I opened the door when I came in, this seemed like the safest option."
You rested your head on your knees and gave him a blank stare. "Why can't you just be nice to him?" You mumbled softly. "It took a lot for him to even want to come here, he doesn't do well around large groups of people."
"Y/n it's an unspoken fatherly rule that I dislike every single guy that you bring home."
"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I get that you just met him, but why not try being a decent person and treating him like you do every citizen of this city?"
He sighed and knelt down next to where you were sitting. "I'm scared that he's going to take you away from me." He admitted. "And in my eyes you're not a fully grown adult, your the six year old that used to run into my arms whenever I came home. You being this person and finding a mate is very foreign to me."
"Dad, you have to loosen the reigns sometime, I'm not a baby anymore, I don't need you as much as I did before."
"Oh don't say that." He groaned. "That hurts."
"Dad I didn't say that I don't need you at all, it's not like I'm going to cast you aside." You laughed lightly. "I still want you in my life, but I also need more freedom now, I can't live with you forever."
"I know." He sighed. "Just know that I love you."
"I love you too." You smiled. "Now be nice to Elliot, no more acting like an overbearing mother hen."
"I'll try, but I make no promises."
"Thank you, I'm glad you're at least going to be making an effort."
"Anything for you Y/n."
