sixteen; mr damsel in distress

Start from the beginning

A loud sigh sounded from the ginger "I like him as a friend but nothing more.... I wish I did though."

"Why do you wish that?"

"He'd be good for me, he'd never leave me, no doubt he would give me the world, I think I would have everything I've ever wanted with him.... But I'd never be happy. Not truly."

"Is it us that's stopping you?"

"Don't flatter yourself," Charlotte scoffed "I just don't think happiness is on the cards for me anymore. Embry deserves a lot better."

"Who is better than you?"

"Complimenting me won't get you in my good books. What's with all the questions anyway?" Questions made Charlotte feel awkward, especially when she didn't want to answer them.

"I'm just interested in your life."

"If you were that interested you wouldn't have left." All emotion had left her voice, no longer in the mood to talk to Alice.

"Charlotte I-"

"-If you say sorry one more time I'm gonna open this door and roll straight out."

"But I am sorry."

"I've heard you, but saying it once is enough, saying it more just makes it a word, makes it meaningless. So stop it."

The car went back to silence, Charlotte deciding that having a nap would be the best thing for her to do, it meant she didn't have to talk to Alice and for some reason it felt like she hadn't slept in days.

The next time Charlotte opened her eyes she was in a different car, in a different county and even in different clothes.

She couldn't help but shoot up, confused on where she was.

"Charlotte you're okay, you're okay I promise." Alice received no reply, Charlotte still adjusting to being awake.

"How long was I asleep?" Her voice was quiet and croaky.

"A few hours... I know you always loved your sleep but you were never that deep of a sleeper."

Alice knew something was wrong with Charlotte, there was no way that she wouldn't have woken up while Alice carried her. It just wasn't like her.

"I must have changed then." Charlotte knew that Alice knew something was up, but she didn't want to say anything.

"Your energy has changed."

"I didn't think that was your thing, I thought it was more Jaspers. How is he by the way?"

"Don't try and change the subject."

"I wasn't." Charlotte muttered out a lie, she wanted nothing more than to change the subject.

"Don't lie to me." Alices voice was back to the pointed tone she'd had previously, "You can tell me what's wrong, Charlotte."

"I don't want to. I don't want to tell anyone, it's not just you, Alice."

For some reason Charlotte felt like she had to make sure Alice knew she wasn't singling her out, even though she wasn't exactly happy with the Cullens she still didn't want to hurt Alice.
