Without thinking, I accidentally liked one of the tweets in the thread and immediately choked on the beverage in my mouth as I rushed to unlike it. I prayed that she wouldn't get the notification—the last thing I needed was for someone to have evidence that I had liked a thread about Luke and myself. After the incident, I concluded that it was time to get off Twitter.
I switched to Instagram instead and at the top of the timeline, among people's stories, I saw that Luke Hemmings was live on Instagram. My eyebrows furrowed and I joined the live to see what he was up to—other than deserting me.
Luke was in his apartment—getting ready, it seemed.
"Josie!" Somehow, among the thousands of comments, Luke saw that I had joined and I rolled my eyes playfully. "Josie, I was just telling everyone that you were going to have my ass for being late."
I started typing a response as Luke got closer to the camera, most likely to watch for my comment, but instead of continuing, I pressed on the option to join Luke's live. I propped my phone up, hoping that he'd accept the request and seconds later, I was on the live. Luke smiled as he saw me and I tried to hide my smile as I repositioned my phone.
"Your ass is grass, Hemmings." I crossed my arms and Luke only smiled wider.
"It's their fault," Luke said, blaming the people watching his live. "I got on here thinking I would be on here really fast just to remind people to tune into our interview that's airing tomorrow morning, but then they started asking a lot of great questions."
"You're only almost thirty minutes late... I hope you told them some juicy secrets," I joked which caused Luke to chuckle. "Also—hello, you guys." I finally addressed the chat and looked as comments came in, all of which were saying things about me or to me. I saw one in particular that was telling Luke, in all caps, to tell me how beautiful I looked.
"Okay, guys—I think it's time for me to go. Thank you all for tuning in and I hope to talk to you all again soon," Luke said as he smiled goofily at the camera. "The princess awaits."
"Shut up, Luke," I said through a laugh. "I was starting to get excited to slip into my pajamas and hit the hay."
"You were going to give up on me?"
"Only because it seemed like you had already done so! Okay—I'm leaving. Bye, you guys! It was lovely to chat for the last minute or so. Bye-bye!" I left the live and locked my phone as I focused on finishing the beer I had set on the counter.
About three minutes after setting my phone down, it began to ring. I picked it up to see that Luke was calling and I didn't hesitate to answer.
"You're quite late, mister. I might have to change my mind about tonight now," I joked with Luke.
"Hey—I'm sorry," Luke told me, genuinely apologizing. "I'm already on my way, okay?"
"Luke, it's okay," I told him through a laugh. "Are you driving?"
"No, I've got a driver tonight," Luke told me which caused an excited smile to appear on my lips. I felt so silly being close to someone who had a driver. "You're sure you're not mad?"
"Yes, Luke."
"Okay, okay," Luke repeated himself quietly, almost as if he were trying to think of something else to say as he decided to believe I wasn't upset. "What are you wearing? I want to be prepared."
