Bokuto continued to lead Akaashi through the backyard, past the pool, and out to the front yard, where only a few people were hanging out, smoking.
They stopped at the edge of the yard, by a dark lump on the ground. Bokuto grinned and picked it up. "Ta-da!" He said, holding up a football proudly.
How many of these things are there around here?
"Uh, Bokuto?" Akaashi asked, wringing his hands together.
Bokuto's eyes lit up. "Akaashi! That's the first time I've heard you say my name!" He tossed the football up and down in the air a couple times.
Akaashi felt lighter at the fact that Bokuto took pride in a small detail like that, but brushed it off. "What was it that you wanted to show me?"
"This, of course!" Bokuto held up the football.
Akaashi felt his insides deflate. "Oh."
Bokuto took a few steps back, and lightly tossed the ball to a startled Akaashi, who barely caught it. He never liked footballs, he found their weird shape made it hard for him to hold.
"What would you like me to do with it?" Akaashi asked, trying to mask his disappointment.
Bokuto laughed. "I want you to throw it to me, silly! Let's toss it back and forth, just the two of us!"
Dear God.
Akaashi felt a twinge of annoyance. Mostly at himself, for expecting anything romantic from an adrenaline junky football all-star (or for expecting anything romantic at all for that matter), but also at Bokuto for wanting to toss around a football like a couple of grade schoolers.
Begrudgingly, Akaashi gripped the ball tighter. He backed up, and threw it as hard and as straight as he could, but to no avail. Much like his apparent heterosexuality, the ball did not want to go straight, and curved drastically to the left, causing Bokuto to have to scramble for it.
Akaashi cringed as he watched it bounce on the ground. He watched as Bokuto picked it up, and walked towards him.
"In my defence, I never said I could throw a football."
Bokuto chuckled. "It's fine. Here, I'll show you how. It's actually really easy."
He got handed the ball, and Akaashi felt his body go rigid as Bokuto moved behind him. He grabbed Akaashi's hand and placed it on the ball, underneath his own.
"You want your fingers on top of the lace of the ball. Does that make sense?"
"Oh." Akaashi said softly. The strong smell of Bokuto's deodorant- was that Old Spice? Filled his nose. After a second of daydreaming, he realized he hadn't gave him a proper answer. "Uh yeah. Yes. That makes sense."
Goddamn alcohol. I'm not sober enough for this.
Bokuto withdrew his hand from overtop of Akaashi's and walked back to his spot.
"Okay, now throw it!" Bokuto said, grinning wide.
Akaashi threw the ball, and while it wasn't a perfect throw, Bokuto managed to catch it.
"Nice throw! Now it's my turn to toss it to you!" Bokuto winded his arm back, and threw it, straight and true to Akaashi. Unfortunately for him, Bokuto was an all-star on the football team, which means that his throw is strong and hard. Which means that Akaashi caught it. With his face.
Everything went black as indescribable pain shot through Akaashi's head. For a moment, he swear he literally saw stars. The shock made him fall to his knees, and he grabbed his nose, which was bleeding profusely.
