Quietly, I got up from the balcony floor and made my way back into the bedroom. Attempting to sneak out of a house full of vampires was not going to be easy, but I had no choice. I grabbed my suitcase and put it on top of the bed. and then did the same with Luna's. I gathered all of our belongings and tucked them away into our small bags and I double checked to make sure I didn't leave anything behind. I knew Kol and Elijah didn't stay in the mansion at night. Most of the time they left and didn't return until morning. Rebekah had been spending a lot of time with that blue-eyed waiter named Matt. As for Klaus...well...he liked to keep a close eye on Luna and I, so he was always in the mansion.
Trying to think quickly, I decided to tie some long pieces of cloth together and tie a knot around both suitcases. I wouldn't be able to walk downstairs with our bags without causing suspicion. I walked over to the balcony, suitcases in hand, and threw them over, keeping the cloth like rope close, making sure the suitcases didn't make a loud sound once they hit the ground. Once I had lowered both suitcases to the ground, I dropped the long string of cloth over the balcony and closed the doors behind me.
Luna walked in, her hair messy as it sat softly on her shoulders. She looked up at me and I raised my finger to my mouth, and signaled her to close the door.
"What's happening?," she whispered, her eyes wide with fear.
"Um...we have to go back home. Mom and Dad are coming back and if they return and we're not there we're going to be in huge trouble." Luna rushed to the door and locked it. I threw her her jacket and I checked the time on my phone.
10:17 p.m
I shoved my phone in my pocket and turned the lights off.
"Kol left already," Luna whispered. She tied her hair up and looked around the large bedroom.
"What about Klaus? Did you see him?," I asked her desperately. We wouldn't leave this mansion if Klaus was sitting in the living room all night.
"No...no but I heard him on the phone with someone. He went into town." I grabbed Luna's hand and snatched the car keys from the drawer and we both ran out of the bedroom and down the hall. My heart was beating out of my chest, begging me to rethink my options, but I just didn't see another way.
With caution, Luna and I walked out of the mansion and towards my car. It would take us ten minutes, 20, at most to get out of town and at a safe distance. I knew Klaus had a place back home, but I wanted Luna out of Mystic Falls. It was too dangerous here.
"Shit! The suitcases." I jumped out of the car and rushed to the side of the mansion where our suitcases were waiting. I tripped and fell when I turned the corner, but quickly got back up and retrieved our belongings. I got back to the car in one piece and sped down the driveway.
"Why can't we tell Klaus? He's gonna come after us if we just leave. If we tell him that Mom and Dad are on their way back, he'll understand." Luna couldn't know the real reason why we were leaving. She was getting stronger, and she would want to stay and help Klaus and I couldn't have that. "Leo, please, I don't want you to get in trouble with him." I made a quick left turn towards town; it was the only way to the highway. My eyes frantically moved from the road to our surroundings, afraid that Klaus would see us driving away.
"Klaus is the least of my problems right now. If Mom and Dad find out that I dragged you here, I'll never hear the end of it. We have to drive all the way back home, and they're probably almost there already. We have no time to make stops and say goodbyes."
Reluctantly, we made it out of town without being seen, and once on the highway, I let myself relax a little.
"At least we'll be seeing Mom and Dad after God knows how many months," Luna said. I looked over at her and she turned away from me, facing the window and tuning me out. I didn't want Luna to hate me, it was the last thing I wanted, but I needed to do what was best. I needed to keep her safe, and she would thank me in the long run. I knew once we got home and she realized Mom and Dad werne't there, she was going to flip out on me, possibly do something crazy, but it was worth the risk. At least she would be far from Mystic Falls.

Luna sprinted into the house when I parked the car. Our large home seemed vacant and dark. It felt like years since we've been here. I sat in the car a few more minutes, not wanting to confront Luna about the situation. I could hear her yelling throughout the house, searching for our parents. She was not gonna find them in there.
I got out of the car and grabbed our suitcases. I brought them into the house and turned on the all the lights. The house was cold and I rushed over to the heater and turned it on for some warmth. I then locked the front door and then the backdoor. Klaus was probably aware that we were gone by now, and I was sure he was on his way here.
"I don't think they're here yet," Luna jogged down the staircase and walked into the kitchen. "I don't know about you, but I think we should order some food or something. Mom and Dad are probably going to be hungry when they get here." Luna grabbed the home phone and began to call what I assumed was takeout.
"I'm going to go call Mom and see where she is, but if anyone knocks on the door don't answer until I come back down." I took out my cellphone from my back pocket and headed upstairs into my bedroom. I made sure Luna wasn't following, and then I dialed Mom's number.
"How are my two favorite girls doing?," her voice sounded like heaven, and I sat down on the bed and lavished her sweet tone just a little longer. "Sweetie?," she asked through the phone and I snapped out of my trance.
"I'm here mom, sorry."
"Is everything alright? You sound different." I took a deep breath.
"Yes...no...yes but no. Do you know who Klaus Mikaelson is?," I asked her. There was a long pause on the line and I sat still, waiting for her to answer me. "Mom-I know everything. Luna and I need you and Dad to come home...now. We need your help because we can't do this alone. I can't promise that I can keep Luna safe and knowing that really scares me." I felt tears streaming down my face and I wiped them away, worried that Luna might walk in any second. "I just, I don't know what do, Mom." There was a lump in my throat forming, making it difficult for me to talk. "Come home."
"We're taking the next flight out. Don't worry, baby, we're coming home. Stay inside and do not open the door. I'm going to tell you a spell that will keep anyone and anything from entering the house, okay? Listen carefully, sweetheart. Fasmatos Claro Don Mi Temp Olacta Sondri. No lights in the house. Only candles. Your powers will be stronger with the help of fire. Trust me. I'll see you soon." She ended the call and I let myself fall to the floor and cry. It had finally hit me. I couldn't protect Luna on my own. I was too weak.
The sound of Luna's feet stomping up the staircase startled me and I stood up and wiped away my tears. I got to my desk and grabbed my eye drops just as she walked into my room.
"Thai food will be here in ten. Oh no, allergies? Great, that means I'll be getting mine soon." Luna walked up to me and grabbed my small bottle of eye drops. "Might as well take some precaution," she smiled at me and dropped some of the clear liquid into both of her eyes.
"I just got off the phone with Mom and she said that they should be here soon. But she also wants us to keep the doors locked for safety."
"Typical Mom." I tried my best to smile, but it only felt like a small twitch.
"We should get downstairs and wait for the food." Luna turned and I followed her out of my bedroom. The doorbell rang and Luna looked back at me in confusion. "I thought you said ten minutes?," I asked her.
"I guess they're early." Luna rushed down the stairs and I watched as she walks up to the front door and unlocked it. It didn't make sense. Take out was never early.
"Luna don't!," I screamed, but it was too late. The door was already wide open and Klaus grabbed Luna and snatched her out of the house, disappearing into the dark night. I fell to my knees. "Klaus!" I felt my heart stop and I stared out of the door and into the darkness. What had I done?
