"You can barely live without his presence and it's eating you alive." Charlotte's voice beckons closer as she comes to stand beside me.

I turn my head, every ounce of anger showing on my face, and directed at her. "YOU... You did all of this! You couldn't stay out of it. I'm his mate, can't you see that! Why can't you...You don't own him...You are no more than a tyrant!"

My chest was heaving, trying to control my last bit of sanity as laughter fills the room

"Me, a tyrant? Big words for a newborn. His loyalty is to me. He bent the knee to me. My men were once cowards, frighten little boys barely able to hold a sword until I came along. Their lives would have ended if I didn't take them, train them, mold them into the warrior's fit to march by my side. And you dare to call me a tyrant. Goddess have my head!"

A droplet of sweat rolls down my forehead as everything trembled. Sharp jabs dig into each side of my collarbone as claws lash the skin apart.

"Didn't you ever wonder what happened to those who sacrifice their life beyond the peaks..."

"You're a liar!" I cry, ripping my body from her grasp and landing a stinging blow to her cheek with my palm. Five markings gashed into her rouged cheekbone beckoned as she slowly brought her head to center.

Sharp, ragged breaths.  I retract my claws, coating the bodice of my gown with more stains of red.

"Those men serve the kingdom, the Alpha's divine. The strongest and most honorable men and my mate is one of them. How dare you insult him!" Stepping back, scowling at her. "You have no power here."

Watching as charlotte steadily trotted over to a cabinet dawned in shadow. Following a loud squeak and a thud, she turns back to me. Her cheek already healed, the scars pale and fading. She roams back into the candlelight, reaching out her right hand. Dangling a silver chain with a sapphire pendant off her fingertip. The bright blues capturing light and reflecting it in dazzling specks on the wall.

"Believe what you wish Lilyan, At this point you've embraced treason." She casts the pendent up and rests her hand on her hip. The insignificant creature latched onto her hip, caws. Catching the necklace with its beak and flying straight for the window.

"Only because of you!"

"I offered you a deal, and you took it."

The complexity of this situation hung heavy on my shoulders. Dragging me down like a thousand titanium bolted chains. I never wanted to do it, I swore I'd never do it if it wasn't just. There was too much at stake. I had no choice but to do it. My family, my life, everything was at risk. I would have lost more than just my position, but my shot at happiness.

Pushing off from the table, clenching my hands into tight fists. Staggering about to the left and right heavily until I found the wall. My back slumps against the painted bricks, tilting my head up to do the same. I refuse to let more tears fall.

"It's done."

Charlotte's words...

"Your part is over and now we go our separate paths."

They sound like spiders. Spiders that crawl all over me, their tiny sticky feet brushing up the hair on my limbs as they writhe. My sporadic heartbeat breaking at the thought.

"She's alive," I say with a stuttering breath.

The heavy snowfall from behind the velvet curtains blustered inside, taking the candles with it. Deadly silence looming over the room in a haze of midnight fog. A tedious crunch, then another and another. Footsteps demolish the snowflakes coating the floor beneath the window as the two wings loudly shut. Now just the rattling of chips grazing the glass remain.
