Back to the states

She embraces me.

"Your finally here."

She pulls my inside the house.

What's inside makes my heart melt,

There is a banner reading

"Happy 20th / We'll miss you."

The house was crowded with everyone I've worked with during my time at the zoo, including Robert, chandler, Terri, mike , Wes & Dr Rosie

They all cheered for me.

Terri walked forwards and embraced me.

"We couldn't send you off without a big party."

The big was spent eating delicious food, opening gifts and all around having a good time.

They even brought out a cake which everyone everyone sang happy birthday and I blew out the candles.

It was later in the evening and I was having a quiet moment to myself when the door opened, it's bindi she joins me on the railing.

"I'm really going to miss you."

"I'm gonna miss you too bindi."

"You know he's a better person because of you right," I turn to face bindi " he's always been a great kid but there's alway been a slight weight of the responsibility that came with being who we were, but with you it's like he can just be himself."

We continue to sit in silence for a while just enjoying each others Company.

Time stretches on until the door opens again.

"Hey bindi, chandlers looking for you."

Bindi places a small kiss to the side of my head and heads back inside to find her husband.

Robert now take bindi's place next to me.

"Beautiful isn't it."

"Yh"

"We can make this work ya know, we'll FaceTime each other, we can call, I'll visit you whenever I'm in the states, your coming with us to wenlock we're gonna make this work."

Nothing else can be said we hold each other's hand and just enjoy the evening with the sound of animals in the background while we star gaze.

Monday afternoon.

"Now do you have everything."

"Yes, okay everything's here."

Since I had returned my car back to the dealership yesterday Robert offered to drive me to the airport.

"So your flight leaves around 3:30 and it's 20hr flight."

I cut of his rambling with a kiss.

His hand wrap around my waist and mine go to his hair.

After a good 4 minute make out session we part.

Getting some looks from a mother and father with there kids.

We stand there coiled in a embrace that I'm sure in not appropriate for a public airport departure terminal.

"I see you in a few months when I come back for wenlock river."

I give him another kiss.

"I love you"

I freeze, this is the first time I've told robert I love him.

I worry about his reaction, until he lean down and give me one of the most passionate kisses I think we've ever had.

"I love you to."

Our foreheads are pressed together.

Out of the corner or my eye I can see the same parents side eyeing us as they pack there kids luggage on a trolly.

Taking that as our cure to part I untangle my arms from around his neck.

"I've got to get checked in and go through security."

Robert also realises me and hands my my final suitcase.

"3 months."

I laugh and reply

"3 months."

Robert watches me as I walk into the terminal and out of sight.

I'm able to pass through baggage check in very quickly as well as security, and before I knew it I'm in the duty free section of the airport picking myself up some snacks to take on the plane.

3:30 come around quicker that anticipated. And a voice in the speaker shouts.

"All third to flight 14b Australia to New Orleans international please make your way to gate 16 for boarding."

I sigh a pick up my hand luggage and make my way to the gate number.

30 minutes later

I take my seat on the plane.

It seems that so far I'm the only one in my row.

It's doesn't take long to board everyone , after the incident with COVID last year not many people are flying now a days.

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen I'm your captain and welcome you to this flight from Queensland airport to New Orleans international with a stop over to refuel in San Francisco."

20 hrs later

"Ladies and gentlemen we re now arriving in New Orleans international, the temperature it 28 degrees and it is sunny, thank you for flying with Americans airlines."

I wake up soon as we hit the ground.

After 5 minutes the seatbelt sign is lifted and everybody is allowed to move about the cabin.

My legs feel so stiff as I reach for my carry on.

I'm all sweaty and it's only 8am in the morning in Louisiana.

Oh boy, my body's gonna need time to adjust to a new time zone.

After little hassle I get pick up my suitcases from baggage claim and head to arrivals terminal.

"Danielle!" My mother's yell I swear could be heard all through out the airport.

I walk up to my mum,who is the only one who is here.

The moment I'm in range I find myself in her arms.

"Oh I've missed you so much, the others wanted to come but I didn't want you to be overwhelmed."

She grabs my luggage and heads for the exit.

I hurry to keep up

On the way home she grills me on everything that I hadn't told her over face time.

She of course asked me about Robert and how he was, and was exited when I told her he would visit when in the states, that made her happy, she didn't even mention the age gap like I though she would.

We were soon pulling up onto our drive.

I looked out of the window at my childhood home that sits next to a lake.

I sigh

Good to be home ....... I think
