Chapter Twenty-Four of A Prevailing Love

Start from the beginning

"I'm a monster," she whispered in horror.

"Cassi, hey, hey look at me please. It's Damon. Cassi," he urgently cupped her face to look into her eyes hoping his touch would calm her. She began sobbing as the blood disappeared and she grabbed at his hand leaning into his shoulder, sobbing heavily.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I should have told you," she sobbed out as she gripped his shirt not wanting to let go of him. Her shoulder began intensifying again and that was when she let out a scream into Damon's shoulder with a mixture of a sob and he did everything in his power to not break.

"Call your vampire boyfriend to get his brother's ass here now! I'm not losing her!" Damon shouted at Avery who jumped heavily but nonetheless pulled her phone out to begin calling Elijah. He pulled her face away from his shoulder and softly pushed her wet hair from her face seeing the intense paling of her body. He had picked her up bridal style to take her to the bed to get her more comfortable. "It isn't safe for you to be in here," he looked at the three girls seriously.

The girls had no interest in arguing with Damon and left the room to leave him alone to take care of his infected bride alone. He had been mostly worried that she was already well into the hallucination stage and with this happening he wasn't sure exactly how long she could wait for Klaus. He had only hoped Klaus was nearby and not in New Orleans.

She had let out another piercing "NO" as she let her hands grip at Damon's thigh tightly before calming down as he ran his fingers sadly through her hair. Stefan had been in and out of the room to not only check on her but also his brother to make sure he was handling everything okay by himself. She began sobbing against his leg again as she had been curled into a ball wrinkling her dress and dirtying it.

"Make it stop, Damon!"

"Klaus will be here soon, baby he's going to be here."

He wasn't sure if he was convincing himself or if he was convincing her more, but either way he was continuing to hope that Klaus would walk through that door any second know. It was killing him to see her going through this type of pain and he didn't want her to go through this type of pain. He wished he could take it away with the snap of a finger but he knew he couldn't.

"I can ease the pain," he whispered as he pulled her hair back and slowly took her hand in his. He softly closed his eyes and they had been at a beautifully decorated barn outside Mystic Falls, one where they had talked about marrying at because it was private and they would make it magical. He had been in his best suit with a small purple rose clipped above his heart because that had been her favorite and he would do anything to express her.

"You think I'm going to die, don't you? That's why you brought us here."

He turned around and had seen his bride standing there in the dress she was in when he ran into the room. Her hair had been done in a beautiful updo with a small tiara resting in the front that was holding her veil in place. Her make-up had been light yet elegant and the bouquet of rose and sunflowers she had in her hand was put down to the side.

"You don't think he's going to get there in time," her voice had broken at the thought that in a short amount of time she was going to be dead. The venom was going to reach her heart before Klaus could save her and that's why Damon had made this fake wedding. She knew he didn't have faith in Klaus. "We're not going to get a real wedding, Damon are we?"

"I -- I don't know, Cassidy."

The simple wording of her full name .. she knew by him saying that that he didn't think Klaus was going to make it in time. She wasn't going to get her wedding with her fiancée. She was going to die.
