Enjoy Suna being a nervous, but loving mess of a boyfriend!

Music played softly in the background, but she could only really hear his small snores. Once again while they were cuddling he had completely passed out, she should've guessed really. After practice not only was he exhausted from volleyball, but he was also mentally exhausted from dealing with the twins' antics. They had come to visit for the past week and as Suna described more annoying than he remembered. She rubbed his back to try and nicely wake him up. "Bubba, it's getting late and you have early morning practice tomorrow," he groaned snuggling deeper into her neck.
She huffed a breath, both from amusement and from the lack of oxygen she was getting from having a 6'1 volleyball boy putting all his weight on her. "No, too comfy, I'll sleepover." she let out a humourless laugh but continued to run a hand through his hair. This happened every single time, his teammates may see him as this reserved snarky middle blocker. And he was except he had this whole other side to him, and it was really being a pain in her ass.
"Yeah, I'm sure my parents will love that."
"They would, they love me."
"Yeah to an extent. You're still a teenage boy in my room."
"Let's get married, so then it's completely normal," at her silence he raised himself, putting his weight on his forearms. Her face was completely red even as she hid it behind her hand he could see her smiling. He moved forward to kiss her hand before pulling it away from her face. She propped herself up on her elbows trying to gauge his seriousness but as usual, he was expressionless.
"Taro, you can't just say stuff like that." he merely smiled before kissing her again, she kissed back smiling into the kiss. She fully believed it was just another one of his casual jokes to catch her off guard. "Don't joke about that," her words were interrupted by his kisses making her giggle.
He looked at her lovingly as he stroked her cheek with his thumb, "who says I'm joking?" he arched his brow before moving to get off of her, she sat up as he threw on his hoodie. She got up on her knees moving towards the edge of the bed to wrap her arms around his shoulders from behind, at her pulling he fell back against her. "Yes baby?" he turned around, putting his arms around her waist.
He mimicked her pouting making her crack a smile, "where are you going Bubba?" his lips curved into a smirk as he pulled her closer. Her hands fell from cupping his neck to his chest to fiddle with his hoodie strings. She still couldn't take it when he looked at her so intensely. He moved closer hitting her nose with his, as he usually did to try and force her to look up at him. She couldn't help but look up when he was being so gosh darn cute.
"It's getting late, I'm going home." she rolled her eyes, shoving his chest as best she could. His arms that were around her waist fell to his sides before he held his hand up to playfully rubbed his chest with a smile on his face. "What? You told me your parents wouldn't approve of me sleeping over." she sh0ok her head, falling back onto her bed, moving to hide under the covers. She soon felt a weight lay on her, already knowing it was him she wiggled around to try and make him fall off.
He wrapped his arms around her blanketed body to try and anchor himself, despite her protests she was smiling. But he couldn't know that she was supposed to be upset at him. She stopped moving, flinging the part covering her face down to see Rin hovering over her. He soon dropped down on her when she rolled her eyes and opened her arms for him. She ran her hand through his hair, he groaned in response. He really loved someone playing with his hair. "You're a child, you know that right." his words were muffled by the blanket but she could still understand his remark.
"Well you'll have to deal with this the rest of your life." he lifted his head with a smile, she easily matched his smile with her own. He moved some hair out of her face kissing her forehead then her nose before finishing with a long kiss on her lips.
"I can't wait, love." he chuckled when he had left her speechless yet again, she pushed him up so that she could open the blanket for him. He happily accepted engulfing her into his arms, kissing her cheek before closing his eyes and snuggling into her neck again.
A couple of weeks later, the practice had just ended. His teammates and his laughter filled the gymnasium, she walked in to find them crowded in a circle all clearly looking at something. When his teammate, Motoyo noticed her come in he nudged Rin. He looked up from the phone searching for what the libero was looking at. He grimaced at her dishevelled-looking appearance, she was frowning and looking generally beat. He excused himself from the group, handing his water bottle to Motoyo.
Soon enough she was wrapped in a hug, she hadn't even spotted him, much less noticed him coming over to her. To be fair most of the day she had been on autopilot, she had been trying to study for her midterms all day but everything had been distracting her. "Hey baby, how about some ramen after practice?" she clung tighter at his suggestion, he smiled to himself thinking just how cute she was. "Let me go tell coach I'm leaving then we'll go alright?" she nodded but due to her head still against his chest it moved the fabric of his shirt as well. He bit the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing at her ridiculousness.
He looked at her lovingly as she ate her ramen with a smile present on her face, her mood had completely changed when they entered the tiny shop. He realized she probably hadn't eaten anything all day, she had a habit of doing that when she was trying to study. "I'm going to marry you someday, hope you know that." she almost spit out her noodles and broth at his comment, sure it wasn't the first time he had said something like that but it always caught her off guard.
"Stop saying that!" a smirk formed on his face before he shovelled more noodles into his mouth. She will never get over how much he can eat, it surprised her how fit he was every time they went out to eat and he ate half the food on the menu. "Oh god I'll have to watch you eat like this for the rest of my life?" he winked at her as he continued to eat, grabbing another gyoza with his chopsticks. Did he even breathe when he ate, or did he just inhale everything?
After dinner, he had dragged her in the opposite direction from her house. He knew she needed a long-deserved break just for the night. Eventually, she gave up the fight and he slowed for them to walk side by side. "You know I think," jumped slightly, she had gotten used to the comfortable silence they had fallen into. She looked over at him but he was still looking forward, his cheeks tinted making her smile. "If we can't get married yet, we should move in together." this was when he finally looked over at her, her small smile had morphed into a giant grin.
She made them stop walking, "are you serious?" he looked down before meeting her eyes again, nodding sheepishly. Her entire body was buzzing from the excitement, she jumped into his arms, he easily caught her. "Oh I would love that, Taro!" she laughed loudly when he started spinning them around, which was very out of character for him. When he let her down he cupped her cheeks and kissed her, she could feel so much love in the kiss. If he was serious about this whole marrying thing she couldn't wait for it.
She dropped the final box in their new house, wiping off a bead of sweat from her forehead. Why had they chosen the summer to move their things, poor planning really. Suna came up behind her, putting his hands on her hips and kissing her temple. She leaned into him, even if he was equally as sweaty and was giving off the warmth rivalling a volcano. She didn't mind though, she was just happy that it was becoming real.
When he asked she didn't believe they'd go through with it, even as they looked for houses. But now that they were standing in the house, their house it was becoming clear that it was very real. He held her tighter, okay now his sweat was seeping into her back. "Ew Taro, you're too sweaty let me go!" his head was resting on her shoulder but she could feel him shake his head. She tried her best to squirm out of his hold but he had an iron grip.
'I am never letting you go," she stopped squirming at that. Feeling herself smiling, she dropped her head against his. They stayed like that for a few minutes longer before he was getting annoyed at the heat, he lifted his head planting a kiss on her temple. Before unwrapping himself from her to venture further into the house to turn on the ac.
"You're being ridiculous!"
"I'm being ridiculous? Says the one who can't go five minutes without me."
"Oh I'm sorry I like your company, is that so terrible?" he rolled his eyes, they had been arguing a lot more lately. All because he'd been practicing later and their schedules have been out of sync. Sure he was annoyed that he couldn't see her all day, but he couldn't control what his coaches wanted.
Why were they even arguing? He had only just stepped through the door, he hadn't even taken his shoes off yet. "That's not what I meant. All I meant was that this is my schedule for the next couple weeks and you have to get used to not seeing me every night." she crossed her arms across her chest, at her silence he used it to finally take off his shoes. "I never asked you to wait up for me, you did that yourself."
He regretted it as soon as he said it, especially when he noticed the tears building. He reached out but she moved back, "I waited for you because I love you. And I don't want to get used to it." he was at a loss for words, why was he being so dumb. She was being sweet and caring, one of the many reasons he loves her.
"If you want to get married so bad, wouldn't you wanna see me every day?" he reached out again and this time she didn't move away. She was right he should be home more, he can say no when they ask him to stay late every time then for drinks. Why did he always assume she wouldn't care? He wrapped her in a hug kissing the top of her head.
"I'm sorry, I should've worked my schedule better." she sniffled but nodded against his shirt making them both chuckle softly. They stood like that for a while as he rubbed her back, she eventually pulled him towards the kitchen for him to eat dinner. That night he held her tighter than usual, scared if he let go even a little she'd think he wasn't crazy about her.
"Isn't she beautiful up there?" he overheard the conversation next to him, they were probably talking about [y/n]'s cousin. But his eyes were glued on her, her hair was pinned up in a low bun. Her dress flattered every part of her, it helped him imagine her in a billion wedding dresses for their own day.
They had always talked about getting married, but it seemed so far in the future. Now all he could do is imagine being with her forever, to stand up there with her. After the ceremony, they danced most of the night, got tipsy and laughed their asses off. He guided her to their room, he already knew she would not be happy the next morning. But it made him happy that he was the only one who got to see her like this.
See her in every aspect, to know what made her happy, or sad. Or what especially ticked her off, or see her in the aftermath of a night out. He knew almost everything about her, and the things he didn't know he was learning every day. As he helped her to bed with a kiss to the forehead, even as she rolled over and snuggled into him. He knew this was the only woman he'd ever love and wanted to marry her.
The usually calm middle blocker was shaking as if he had drunk a whole bunch of coffee. His nerves were a jumbled mess that made him very aware of every small thing happening around him. Why was he so far out of his comfort zone by just standing in his bathroom?
Oh, that's right he was mentally preparing himself for possibly the biggest night of his life. The box felt unbelievably heavy in his pocket, it had for months. He had bought it just after her cousin's wedding where she stood up there as her bridesmaid. He so desperately wanted to be right there beside her saying 'I do' as many times as he could to make it go by faster to the point where he could spend the rest of his life with her.
Since they had driven there, during one of their stops back home he had snuck away to a jewelry store. He was in a rush but time stopped when he saw the ring, it was everything he could ever imagine. He wasn't one to really notice jewelry much less be entranced by it. But there he was in a much too fancy store staring down at quite possibly the most perfect ring he had ever laid his eyes on.
"Rintaro are you okay in there?" He closed the lid of the box, almost dropping the velvet box in the sink. "Baby, we're gonna be late." he took a deep breath unlocking the door to her concerned face. He cupped her face kissing her hard, she melted into the kiss instantly. When they pulled back she giggled, "what was that for?" grabbed her hand to lead her to the front door.
"What, I can't just kiss you now?"
The night was almost over, he was going to propose at dinner but his nerves were going crazy. Now they were walking home with his jacket wrapped around her shoulders. She put her hands in the pockets, fiddling around with his keys and wallet that were in there. When her hand found a small box, she was confused, usually, she knew vaguely what he kept in his pockets.
She pulled it out to find a small velvet box, she stopped to inspect it. His eyes widened when he realized what she was holding, but before he could grab it she had already opened it. She brought her hand to her lips as she gasped at the small simple ring. It was the prettiest ring she'd ever seen, was this what she thought it was? Seeing this as the best opportunity as any he got down on one knee.
It wasn't a perfect proposal he'd been planning on, instead, they were in the alleyway on the way home. With only the lights of the houses and the one street lamp from the street over to illuminate them. He was pretty sure he kneeled in a puddle but he didn't care. Once she looked up and tears started springing from her eyes before he even said anything, and then she started jumping and screaming yes. Before he had even opened his mouth to spill out his memorized speech of how utterly and madly in love he was with her.
